I had two cars that needed tint removed and replaced to pass their safety inspections. When I scheduled an appt for my first car Kamaaina Tinting was extremely responsive and got my car in the same day. They did such a great job that I brought in my second to get fixed. That's where things got interesting. While they were tinting my second car the battery died in the middle of service. They called me and told me they were taking care of it. They tried to charge it with a charge pack, the owner even tried to charge it with his own car. After all that my battery was still dead so the owner went out of his way to drive me to O'Reillys to replace the battery, he even installed it for me. Lifetime Warranty for this shop means giving you a $60 discount. There were air bubbles on my tinted windows that this shop installed. I provided them with everything (receipt and life time warranty paper) I was given when originally tinted the vehicle windows at this shop. I was told there is some piece of paper missing, so I was not eligible to use the lifetime warranty. The truth is that the owner could NOT tap into the warranty money from the company that manufactured the film because he no longer uses them. How's that customer's fault. I came to the shop to get my windows tinted, and was told that I have a life time warranty. It is even written on the receipt. The owner gave excuses, it was missing this and that, but the bottom line is I gave them everything I was given after the tinting service was done. Ok I got it; this is small mom and pap's shop and because of some mismanagement, to fulfill the lifetime warranty will have to come out of shop's pocket. But if the gentlemen was humble about it I was not going to give a bad review. But instead giving excuses that I got some paper missing, and that you can give me $60 discount If I pay $300 to re-tint the windows IT IS NOT RIGHT. If you do life time warranty honor it. Don't CRY!!! If you can't offer that don't lie to customers. I do NOT recommend this shop due to honesty. read more

what can I say about this establishment?! Well, first of, I commend the great service and accommodation this place provided me with. Called in to check if there were any available time on a short notice, Howard, told me, If I'm available by 8 he could take me. Take note, the shop open at 9. Soon he enough, my car getting service by 815. In addition, he explained to me what are the choices I have for a better and heat reducing tint. I decided to get the ceramic, less heat and better looking! I met with my friend, and had breakfast & halfway to breakfast, got a txt saying they are done! When I got my car, it looks fantastic! I bought a Living Social deal that gave me a discount for tinted windows. I called two weeks in advance to schedule an appointment. When I called, the rep told me that the owner would have to approve the deal first. So, I got transferred to the owner who told me that they didn't have any more appointments available. OH REALLY? I don't really understand the bad reviews. I found them via an ad on Craigs List. Called and left a message. Howard called me back later in the day and I told him about the job I had. I have 4 large windows in my house with an ancient and crumbling tint. He asked me what kind of tint I was looking for and gave me some options. He helped me pick the one that would work best for my home windows. He scheduled an appointment (remarkably quick). He said due to how old my house windows are, there might be a fine strip around the edge that could not be tinted, but that was not the case. They came to my house and set to work. They agreed that removing the old tint was going to be some hard work, but he said he would do the job for what he estimated. They cleaned up the old windows to be spotless then applied the new tint. I looked it over and was so impressed with the quality of the tint and how well it shielded the really bright light that I had them immediately tint two other windows in my house. Their pricing was reasonable, the tint comes with a 10 year warranty, their workmanship was excellent, and the customer service was great. I'd definitely use them again and recommend them to my friends. Very happy! read more

I called them at 9am which is what time they open to see they could take my car and my girlfriends' car in to get tinted and he was able to but said not until 11am. So that in itself already made me a satisfied customer because I already knew they do good work which I heard through a friend and by reading their reviews in Yelp. They're located inside the Midas but on the Dillingham side entrance. I hesitated to open their doors but you can just walk in and you'll be helped as soon as he can. My car and girlfriends car both took about an hour and a half each. The place is only big enough for them to tint one car at a time and there's only one guy there as well. I bought my car in 2008 and never got around to tinting it til now, thanks to Kama'aina Tinting and a LivingSocial deal. Weekends are always best for me. I called their Ala Moana location Saturday afternoon and they could fit me in but my schedule was uncertain. Luckily, they said they might be able to open up the shop on Sunday for me if it was ok with the boss. So I brought it in early Sunday morning, got my retail therapy at Ala Moana across the street and then it was ready to be picked up! Lifetime manufacturer's warranty on the ceramic tint and my car is a lot cooler from the ceramic tint blocking out the solar heat! Super convenient location! Excellent customer service! Saw a review here for a guy who did his Subaru through Kama'aina, and thought I'd give them a shot. Usually I'm the DIY type, and I generally do a good job on my own, so let me explain why I went through Kama'aina. First, despite what the packaging tells you, DIY tint requires a lot more than just a squeegee and a razor. You'll need a heat gun and a sprayer, and all that stuff adds up. The tint itself is another issue-- you're not going to find quality product at Daiei or Checker, period. The rolls I got were already turning purple, and that only gets worse with time and sun exposure. Odd areas are a pain, and big areas are a bigger pain-- like the rear windshield, where you'll have to slide the tint under your middle brake light housing? Forget it. Kama'aina Tinting staff has the experience and tools to deal with all of this. Let them handle it, seriously. I didn't have an appointment, but they still took my car in. She was done in a few hours while I cruised the Ward area (super easy to kill time here). When I got back, I was impressed-- no creases or bubbles (which I expected), but the cuts were impeccable and the tint was evenly spread over everything-- even those damned black dots on the edge that the store-bought stuff wouldn't stick to. The ceramic tint is well worth the price-- it does keep the car cooler. I park in the sun, and keep a scented candle with a low melting point in the car as an air freshener. Easy science, car gets hot, wax melts in the pit, car smells good. After Kama'aina tinted my baby, that candle just would not melt! The tint around the middle brake light housing was perfectly cut-- no snagged or crooked edges. From inside, you wouldn't know the tint was cut at all. On the outside, the brake lights aren't covered by the tint, keeping you safer. If you go shopping and got milk or meat in the car, you'll be fine. Your belongings will be safer, too. If you forget your phone in the back, nobody is likely to see it just casually passing by. I'm impressed, and I've already recommended these guys to others. They won't disappoint. read more

I'm wondering if they were referring to the Kalihi shop, b/c there was absolutely no problem making a reservation. Called the day before, there was available appointments on Saturday. Brought truck in, quoted a time of 1 hr 30, since they were working on a car atm. They finished slightly earlier, woot. Tint looks great, lifetime warranty, friendly service, and quick. Our first time here and I am so happy we came! We went to the Ward Ave. location, super convenient! My fiance just had his new Forester tinted with ceramic tint. And they did a great job! We called and set up an appointment. They were busy but we didn't mind the wait. (which wasn't a wait at all) We walked over to Ross, Sports Authority, and had brunch at Pa'ina Cafe. As soon as we got done eating, they called us saying our Suby was done! Awesome!! They were fast! Howard and his staff were excellent! They provided great customer service and an amazing tinting job. I've been to the Dillingham and Kapiolani locations, I'm happy to say I've Never had a problem. Wooh. Was able to get an appt. The next day for this location. Got the ceramic tint and visor tint. Only took about 1 1/2 hours, which was what I was told how long it would be in the first place. They have lifetime warranty, so I'm not afraid for any bubbles and what not to appear. I had 3 cars tinted and we were very satisfied. They did a great job!! The owner advised me to use ceramic tint in my Pilot because it deflects the heat penetrating inside the car. OMG! I strongly recommend ceramic tint, a little pricey, but worth it. Now when I get in the car, the heat is bearable. He even extended his personal service all the way to mainland.
