This is my second time coming to Howard . Came here the first time with my 2016 accord brand new for tint and came back again to re tint . Got my tint redone in roughly 1 hour. The back window was bubbled up and I couldn't pass my safety inspection without getting it fixed. Thankfully Kamaaina Tinting came to the rescue. I made an appointment last week to come in today at 8 am. Within an hour, the old stuff was off, and the new tint was on. Terry and his crew at Kamaaina were great. If you're looking for a legit professional business that's not going to take advantage of you, go and see Howard! My back window was bubbled so couldn't pass safety check. The tint had originally been done by different folks at the Kamaaina Tinting in Aiea (closed now) in 2012 so it was under warranty. Howard saw me the next day and when I asked questions about the different tints (ceramic vs regular), he asked me questions, then personally recommended that I go with the free warranty replacement rather than paying $100+ to have the ceramic installed (not because the ceramic isn't better, but it didn't fit my needs right now). This review is for the Kapiolani Blvd location. Customer service is non-existant here. After you pull into the shop garage, no one acknowledges you until you have to hunt someone down and initiate a conversation. Very awkward. After I dropped my car off one of the employees informed me it would be a few hours and they'd call me after it was done. The shop is located across the street from Ohana Pacific Bank and the huge lot that also houses a small car wash and recycling center. I decided to meet up with a friend for lunch at Ala Moana while I waited. I received a call as promised when the car was done and I had asked if I could leave my car there for a bit while I finished lunch. The employee said I had to come right away because there was no space to leave my car. I rushed out of the restaurant and headed over to the shop. I really don't know why they couldn't have left it out in the huge parking lot or even held onto it in their shop which I noticed was pretty empty. Price was reasonable since I had purchased a Living Social deal for it. The first thing I noticed was that my car was filthy with tint residue all over it (i have a black car). After I got home I noticed that the back window's tint was already starting to peel at the corner. All 4 side windows also had dirt trapped in between the tint and window which caused bubbling. I took my car back to get it redone and received no apology or acknowledgement yet again. When I came back to pick up the car, one of the guys just handed me my keys and walked away....didn't even drive my car up or even have the decency to let me know where my car was. I had to yell after him and ask him where the heck my car was. He then just points around the corner. Seriously, worst treatment ever from an establishment. There are so many other tint shops that are reputable and actually value their customers. I lease my vehicles and have been to the Kalihi location 3 years ago. Service was good and tint came out nice. Not sure how it is now. Hopefully the owner will improve the Kapiolani location. Will definitely not be coming back here. read more

I had simply gotten my tint removed only to find that all the tint residue was all over my car floor. There was also a few specs of missed tinting on the back of my window. The shady auto shop and lack of a company sign should've given away the poor quality of the auto technicians. read more

This place was called kamaaina tinting in Craig's list so i call they gave me a price of 160 on the phone with no tint i got most of the tint off still had a little bit round edges of glass i understand i was willing to pay .wen i get there the sign says global tinting so i tought it was the wrong spot being i called kamaaina tinting called to confirm the spot they anser and sat TNT tinting lol. Then the problem starts they didn't know how to clean the window or take off any door panels hahahaha wow i left without tint it seems kinda flakey seems like they just starting to learn how to tint read more

I've have 3 different cars that I've taken to them and have loved the tint job on all 3. They've always said if I had a problem with the tint come back and they will re-do it but the only reason I come back is because I need another car tinted. They now have 3 locations open and soon to have a 4th, just knowing that they have that many locations gives you a little peace of mind. All tint shops offer "life time" warranty but most tint shops come and go, when the tint starts ripping and you go back they are already gone. While tinting my car at dillingham I walked to food land bought a soda and they were calling me to tell me it's done. Of course i was only having two windows done. When I go to the town one I drop my car off walk accross the street check out ala moana such a convenient location it's just great! I'll be back later this week to tint my windshield. read more

Went to there new location on kalauokalani st behind home bar and right next to hawaiian brains and 24 hour fitness. Really nice place, and easy to get too. Brought my car here because I had illegal tint when I shipped my vehicle here... And I needed to get it removed to pass inspection so I could register my car. Every other place quoted more $350+ to remove my old tint and put new legal tint on... And would take 3+ hours. Kama'aina Tinting only charged me $200... Oh, and I should mention that these guys have 2 basic prices for tinting your car: the 'high quality' price and their 'lower quality but way cheaper' price. When I asked if they'd match a competitor's lowball price for ceramic tint I saw on craigs, one of their workers explained they could match it, but I'd have to be ok w/a little dust trapped under the tint. Since for the lowball price, they'd do a quicker job and be less careful. Since it's an older car anyways, i opted for the lowball/lower-quality version. Sure enough, I can see a very small amount of trapped dust, but I'd never notice it unless I was looking for this and the window was absolutely clean. Other than this dust, the quality of the job was top notch - no bubbles or edges lifting up over yr later. For the money, this was definitely the better choice for this particular car. If it had been a new car, it would've been worth paying roughly double for the high-quality tint job. It wasnt the Owner who explained this lowball option but one of the workers. So if you're on a tight budget or yours isnt the nicest looking car anyways, ask about their unadvertised lowball option - this may be what suits you best. read more

I got all my cars tinted here. They're in a great location next to Ala Moana. I never had any problems. I hate leaving my car with people, but I felt really comfortable with them. The shop has a family style feeling, and I knew they would take care of my car. The staff are all really friendly and very informative. They were accommodating and professional. They have a wide selection of premium tints, and alarms all for very reasonable prices. I went down there for just tint, and asked about installing an alarm too. They were more than helpful with setting it all up. If I ever have any problems, I can just come back, but I seriously doubt there will be anything wrong. read more

I got my car tinted at the Ala Moana location a couple of days ago. The service is great. The product appears to be top quality. I did have some old dusty residue that was exposed from beneath the sagging ceiling liner, which the gentleman said could interfere with the application of the tint. However, he cleaned up whatever residue was there thoroughly, as I did not notice anything in the finished product. They have a lifetime warranty on the tint. Great product, great service. read more

Went to get my windows re tinted to legal limits and im glad that i came across these guys, Howard is really professional about the whole deal he took me in on such short notice and said that the tint was going to be done in an hour and sure enough it was done in an hour at a reasonable price at that. At the end of the day thats all a costumer can ask for. My father and I had questions but their responses seemed like they wanted us out of there ASAP. The guy just ended with "Give me your keys and I'll call you when we're done". These guys are the best. Hard to find but you will get there. Does it in 1 hour, depending on the car and if they get calls or customers coming back to get something checked. Friendly and gave a decent discount, originally the guy was going to give me 25% but gave me 35% after his buddy suggested it. Very fair price and quality you get, offers limited lifetime warranty. I had no reservation and I just called them about their pricing, got it done the same day. I would come back to get my other car tinted by these guys. You have to wait 3 days for the tint to set in but that shouldn't be a big problem, I had to open my door to get the tickets and pay for the tickets but that was only for 2 days. When you call, ask for their current deals or promotions, check craigslist for their ad. read more

Just had my brand new 2013 WRX tinted at Kama'aina in Kapolei. Installer was very knowledgable and convinced me to put down 35% considering my windows were tempered. This put me right at the 29% legal limit. I wanted to put 30% down, but it would have been too dark. In just over an hour the car was done and looked great. Scheduled an appointment with them about 3 weeks in advance for their 100.00 early bird tint special. Guy on the phone said everything's set up and confirmed. I called about a week before the appointment and they said that my appointment is confirmed. Got there at 9am, exactly the time of my appointment and they were already tinting another car! Talked to whoever was there and he said my appointment was not in their schedule. I even told them how i called to confirm etc.. bastards just said sorry we can't do anything about it right now...they did offer that they can tint my car in the afternoon for the same price, but that didn't matter to me, i don't give a rip what they offered they screwed up and wasted my Saturday morning....i don't know anything about what kind of tint they use or how efficient they are, this review is solely based on customer service which sucks b@lls here....you are better off at tint zone right around the corner...better service...quality tint and GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE read more

About five years ago I had my Corolla and my mom's CRV tinted by Kamaaina Tinting and the tint on both those vehicles are still perfect. Last week I had my S2000 tint removed and re-tinted and they did a great job again. They've grown (3 locations now) since I was last there and the location near Ala Moana was convenient since I could hang out at the mall while I waited. They really go above and beyond with their customer service and the prices are very affordable. (Tip: get the ceramic tint, the heat it blocks over the regular tint is very noticeable.)
