She took us around her farm, showed us diverse citrus and tropical fruits and had us try various different kinds of fruits from the farm! I've wanted to learn more about the bees for a long time and what better way than to put on a get a private tour where you get to suit up and get a fab lesson from Katie and team on the ins and outs of the bees working hard at making honey. Our tour was about 2 hours long. We were in awe of how hard the beekeepers and the bees here work. We even got to see another bee robbing another bee on site! And saw how to get the beetles out of there! I was pleasantly surprised by how easy it was to get the right sized suit. And they are super nice about taking photos for you!!! The tour ended with a honey tasting and charcuterie board with mint infused iced water! Then we were off to the gift shop which had all the flavors available for tasting -- we loved the hot honey. This TOUR IS A MUST and it is so easy to schedule through their website as they have so much availability 6 days a week.

We contemplated on going back. We abruptly turned our car around and zoomed back to the mango farm. When we got there, I asked if we could take pictures of the mangoes without touching them. We were granted permission. To our amazement of seeing purple mangoes, we had to take photos! They had an abundance of mangoes! We felt like we were in mango heaven. We got to taste the mangoes too! We like them sweet and sour. We bought 4 since we were leaving in 2 days. We continued to take photos. The owners told us to pick a mango that was ready to be picked. Everyone here is passionate about sustainability, local farming, and giving back. Every first Saturday of the month, they host a volunteer day from 9am-12pm. I joined for the first time this weekend and had the best experience! The staff were welcoming, super educational, and provided safety protocols, fresh fruit, and hands-on learning about the land. It felt meaningful, enriching, and fun :) I'll definitely be back whether to shop, eat, or volunteer again. Highly recommend if you want to connect with the land and community on the north shore!

The path is paved and only slightly uphill, so it is a pretty easy walk even if you are not looking to do a serious hike. There are bathrooms, food options, and souvenirs before you start your walk, which makes it a convenient place to spend a little time and rest before/after. At the falls, there is a small sitting area and you can rent equipment and life jackets. There are even two small changing booths if you want to get in the water. The swimming area looked pretty crowded when we visited, and getting down to the water requires carefully climbing over some rocks. I would definitely recommend wearing appropriate footwear if you plan to swim. Overall, it is an easy and scenic walk to a beautiful waterfall, but I would go in expecting the swimming area to be busy.

We had to call to book because we couldn't add the Circle Island Tour transportation to an online reservation. The Circle Island Tour was super great, but definitely made for an early start to a very long day! If you don't have much time on Oʻahu or don't plan to rent a car, I think this is a great way to see more of the island and visit some beautiful places that you might otherwise miss. You get to sit back and let someone else handle the driving while still seeing quite a bit. We did have some confusion with our private islands tour. The PCC initially put us into a semi private tour by accident, so we had to go back and ask about the private tour we had actually booked. Our guide also started out a little less enthusiastic than some of the other private guides we saw, but she gradually warmed up and got more and more engaging as the afternoon went on. I really liked some of the perks of the private tour. You get first or second row reserved seats for the shows, and your guide takes you around the different areas so you don't have to figure out the schedule or plan everything yourself. You could easily spend multiple days exploring the different areas and activities at the PCC, but we only had an afternoon, so the private tour helped us make the most of the time we had. The luau had a lot of food options, although quite a few of them were too salty for my taste. The virgin Mai Tai served in a pineapple was fun, but I thought it tasted more artificial than some of the fresh pineapple smoothies we've had elsewhere in Hawaiʻi. The taro buns they give you when you first sit down were actually my favorite part of the meal. The luau show itself was nice, but not mind blowing. It was entertaining and gave us a good taste of the Polynesian cultural performances, but it wasn't my favorite luau we've experienced. The entire Luau is much more casual and relaxed than others. One thing to keep in mind is that tickets are not inexpensive. If you want to do several of the experiences, especially the tours, private guide, and luau, you can easily end up spending hundreds of dollars per person. There are a lot of options, but the costs can add up very quickly.

Overall, I actually enjoyed the visit and the gateway buffet was actually better than expected. I was trying to get the higher tier luau with the dance show, but honestly, there were plenty of hula show throughout the day and at the Ha show after. Overall, we really enjoyed talking to the students working there part time while getting their education at BYU. And I think it was knowing the fee and cost was towards education that I felt much better this time in learning the background in connection with the school.

Field Trip experience…read more Cost per student: $10 + $5 (bus transportation) Unit: Plants and Animals Hoa Aina Makaha is a non profit organization. When it first started high school students from Waianae and Nanakuli, who were unable to function in the classroom, came here to learn how to care about themselves through caring of the land with traditional Hawaiian Values. The program has expanded with Hoa Aina's Mission Statement, "Creating Peaceful Communities in Harmony with Nature, through the Eyes, Hands and Hearts of the Children." Makaha elementary students use the 5 acre farm daily and learn hands experience of how plant, take care, and harvest a plant. They are able to care for different animals. Public and private schools and the community is welcome to the farm. They offer different programs where you can learn how to grow your own garden. The school program is called Ke-Ala program. Our students went on the general tour. There is a Polynesia tour for older students. Ke-Ala Program- Before we entered the farm the students chanted an Oli along with the adults. Makaha farms sent us over the chant and we practiced it with our students before we arrived. We went along with another class and were split up in to two groups with a guide to show us around. One class went to the animals and the other went on a tour of the farm. Animals- The students enjoyed learning about the different animals. They had: Rabbits Fish Chickens Geese Ducks Goats Sheep Turtles Bees They also got to pet all of them and feed them. Tour of the farm: garden On this tour we got to see projects that the students from Makaha created. Kat our guide talked about the different plants. There were so many I couldn't remember all the names. We saw taro, jackfruit, cotton, banana trees, etc. During the tour we got to see, feed, and touch earthworms. After the tour around the farm the students got to plant their own sunflowers. Each student got to take this home. This farm is 5 acres, there is a lot more to see here then what we saw. Lunch The farm has a nice covered outdoor seating area. It has sinks next to it so the children could wash their hands before lunch. Last year we were able to harvest taro and replant it. Each student got to peddle a bike, which turned a blender, and we made smoothies. They used different fruits from around the farm and kalo. The students and adults really enjoyed it. Overall, it's a great educational experience for the kids. The tour guides speak age appropriately to the children. It's a wonderful field trip to attend with your children. The only downfall is its a bit pricey.

I was so thrilled to find them at the Saturday KCC Farmers Market though I did the first walk through I seriously didn't notice them until several passes I must've been overwhelmed lol! Not only do they sell their fresh Portabella Mushrooms we get to enjoy what makes them so phenomenal. Mushroom poppers, Mushroom Risotto Cakes, and Zucchini fries are all my favorites!! You certainly can enjoy them ala carte but they have a trio which was something I couldn't resist. All made to order which actually is a very short wait they can package it for here to enjoy as you browse or in a container to go which I thought was a thoughtful gesture which is what I did because I later wanted to enjoy it sitting on the curb but up at the Cactus Garden. They also have some other friend yummies like Deep Fried Bananas, Deep Fried Oreos, Deep Fried Portabella Sandwich which is their 15th Anniversary Special.
