What a terrific visit. It all started with a bus ride, yes a bus ride to a residential area that did not for a minute look like the home of an amazing museum. It housed and amazing history of the Hawaiian people and how it became what it is today. The place has a Hall of Fame for Hawaiian athletes plus a planetarium. Admission is reasonable. The people there are wonderful and we had a terrific time. Don't waste you money with a cab ride. Take the # 2 bus and sit back and relax with the real people of Hawaii.

The USS Missouri was our first stop while visiting Pearl Harbor, unfortunately they were having…read moresome power outage issues while we were there. Power on the ship was up and running, however their gift shop was out of power & it took slightly longer to get onto the ship with the power being down. Chris was our tour guide on the Chief Engineers Tour and he was so knowledgeable - provided us with so much information. After the Engineers Tour we joined the Missouri Tour and Ziar was our tour guide. He has a great tour voice and was very informative, and provided excellent stories about Kamikazes, WWII and the conclusion of the war on this very vessel. We spent a little over 2 hours on the ship including the tours. Walking the ship solo was very easy and well marked with directional arrows so you do not miss anything. We purchased the Passport to Pearl Harbor with the added tour which granted us access to all the museums and just had to reserve our ticket to the Arizona Memorial. In my opinion, the Passport was well worth the money and we were able to visit all 3 museums, visitor center and bus rides to and from Ford Island. I really enjoyed the time we spend on the USS Missouri and the information we attained from our tours.

Decent size museum not too much walking involved. Also set up ramps for handicap, seniors and strollers inside.

The Founder, Jody Solbach, was taking money electronically from the company every month. This is okay - it is his money, because he is the sole owner. The problem is that the income garnered by Imi Pono (the lion's share of it) comes from rental payment from residents of Mr. Solbach's four clean and sober houses in the Windward area. These rental payments, given to a tax-exempt non-profit, do not include the 4.712% excise tax. So by taking this money out, and then spending it for anything not related to the foundation's express, stated mission, is unethical and illegal. Paying for his eldest son's college loans is admirable. But to do so with money that you have siphoned off from a non-profit, tax exempt charitable organization, is not exactly admirable. What it is, is tax fraud, and tax evasion. Paying for his vacation last year in Acapulco is not exactly related to helping the homeless. Nor is smoking marijuana, while operating clean and sober houses , especially when you are unable to meet the payroll in a timely manner. Definitely a place to avoid. A very unethical and self-centered businessman, who will always find a way to rationalize his corner-cutting, but always at the expense of others. I know he will get his "reward" someday. I'd just like to be able to see it, and have it on the news, during his life.

I only had the privilege to be behind the scenes so I got to work backstage and also watch events at this venue. It's a really nice theater with great acoustics and lighting. Neither of us had ever been to this side of PC and neither of us knew the place existed! Waze took us to a blocked road/ dead end using the address, but Google maps took us to right place, and it was only 2 mins away from where we were at. There was plenty of parking, but might have to walk a little of you get to a packed event late. The auditorium looks a little old on the outside, but it was tidy and I was impressed at the inside of it. It's a really big auditorium and their A.C. worked REALLY well, that's for sure. The seats were comfortable and plenty of space between the rows. We really enjoyed the Symphony there this evening and how to go back there for future events.

With the Festival of the Pacific being hosted in Honolulu this year, you can expect to see some fantastic exhibits coming up! The most recent exhibit I caught was Storyboards of Palau, featuring wood carvings from various artists of that Pacific Island nation. I knew of the storyboards from the few I saw on Guam, but this exhibit taught me how the art form evolved over the decades, from simple carvings to more ornate works that eventually eschewed painted boards for all wood. The gallery also offers family activities to go along with the exhibit, and on the last day you could make notecards and kids cardboard "necklaces" with stamps featuring the stylizations on the boards. The exhibits are thoughtfully curated and such a great extension of the work being done by EWC. If you've never gone, check out the website for the next exhibit and plan to go! Parking: There's a visitor lot near the Kennedy Theater that's free on Sundays - it's the first left after you pass the East West Center!

I saw traditional Chinese style dresses but the embroidery showed scenes of Iran. Beautiful clothing!!!!! Great carnival especially considering this is the 1st year that the school is doing it…read more FOOD: Let me start by saying majority of the booths are run by groups from the school like Band Booster, Athletics, & Project Grad so you know it will be a little bit more. So let me tell you that I was presently surprised how good the Poke Bowl and Flying Saucer was especially considering it was probably made by volunteers. PARKING: $3. When we went in the afternoon it wasn't hard at all to find parking. Loved that there was a lot of handicap parking that was really close to the actual event. SUGGESTION: I would have loved to see local fruits & vegetables and maybe baked goods for sale. Definitely will come back next year.
