A few issues were identified that needed attention, but they were presented as nothing drastic. I was advised to make another appointment to take care of some of the work that did not require prior insurance approval. When I returned, however, the recommendation seemed completely different from what I had been told during my first visit. Once I was in the chair, I was given the impression that my teeth were in very poor condition and that significant work needed to be done right away. I felt there was a lot of pressure to proceed, and different costs and figures were being discussed quickly in a way that I found difficult to follow. Because the assessment seemed so different from my initial visit, I was uncomfortable moving forward with any treatment and decided to leave and seek a second opinion. My wife had a similar experience. She was given what sounded like a very serious prognosis, but after obtaining a second opinion, she was told that her situation was not as severe as it had initially been presented to her. I am now getting a second opinion for myself before having any work done. Based solely on our personal experiences, I would recommend being cautious and considering a second opinion before agreeing to extensive dental work. My biggest concern is the inconsistency between the recommendations we initially received and what was presented at the follow-up visits.

Extremely Disappointing Experience and Unprofessional Practices…read more I am deeply frustrated with my experience at Passes Dental Care and would strongly advise others to look elsewhere. First, they opened my tooth knowing full well that I was going on vacation in less than a week. They knew there was a high probability I would need a root canal, yet after opening my tooth, they admitted they didn't have the ability to perform it and referred me out. I was forced to pay hundreds of out of pocket for a CT scan and an emergency pulpotomy, and now I am left with a temporary filling and forced to urgently find a specialist before my trip--a stressful situation that could have been handled much better. Second, they forced me to take and pay for a new CT scan, completely ignoring the fact that I had already provided a clear, up-to-date CT scan from another provider taken just two months ago. Third, their billing practices felt very deceptive. I was initially promised a very decent credit for a routine cleaning since I reached my insurance maximum. However, after the cleaning was completed, they went back on their word and demanded almost full payment. When I tried to speak up and address this, they turned around and increased the bill to around $250. I have been a loyal patient with this practice for years, and they have earned thousands of dollars from me over time. Yet despite this history, they completely refused to offer any fee adjustments or credits for their oversight, leaving me to spend thousands more out of pocket at a specialist. Poor communication, unfair billing, and terrible scheduling management. Save yourself the headache and go to a practice that respects your loyalty, health, and money.

Years of loyalty, but no response after X-rays and insurance claim…read more I've been a loyal patient of Dr. Joanne Butler for many years and always appreciated her care, but this recent experience has completely changed my view. Over a month ago, I went in for a maintenance visit and a crown had broken. She explained that she would submit the claim to my insurance and, based on coverage, either repair it or refer me elsewhere. She also took X-rays and an impression for a bite guard. Since that appointment, I've called several times and have not received a single return call. (On one occasion I managed to speak with Ed her husband/office manager but still no callback) Its extremely disappointing to be ignored after so many years as a patient. If the problem was that my insurance didn't pay enough, that should have been discussed honestly--not avoided. What's worse is that X-rays and other services were billed to my insurance, yet there has been no communication, plan, or care provided. I expected better treatment and respect from a practice I trusted for so long. I'll be taking my care elsewhere.

I had the root canal done by an endodontist in July and then it took months for her to finally get back to me and booked an appt for late Sept. When I arrived at the office, she had an elderly man as her reception who is actually her husband tell me that I had to pay out of pocket $1050, or she cannot see me. My insurance requires no copayment as she is a in network provider with my insurance co. I told him I want a copy of the bill at that time I seen she billed and was paid for service that I did not receive. I contacted my ins co and filed a grievance against her. I have also read on google, Healthgrades and other sights of other patients with similar bogus experiences with her. I wish I would have read her ratings before going to her. If you have experienced her scam, please contact your insurance co, don't let her continue to get away with billing for service she hasn't rendered or over charging.

Showed me exactly what is wrong with my teeth. Dr. Volk also came in, explained what I needed, and I actually agree that the treatment plan makes sense. Then I'm just left there in the chair, and then the treatment plan person comes in. I thought that it would be an estimate that I could review at home and make financial decisions over. She asks me to come into her office, I said I needed to get back to work (as I just set aside time for the appointment) she keeps talking and then says she needs to talk to Dr Volk. I wait some more. She comes up front and then asks me to come into her office anyway because 'something changed'. I let her explain for a few minutes, understand the thought process, and said that I need to digest it, but that I do take it seriously and need to check my insurance, etc. I also said that I need to get back to work. She keeps talking, saying 'lets do the cavities, etc' I said that will probably be my plan, but I need to check my finances, insurance, etc and make a plan - they are handing me an 8000 dollar treatment plan. Only after I asserted myself more (that I needed to return to work) that she relented. This literally was high-pressure used car salesman like tactics. It ruined an otherwise good experience with the hygenist and Dr Volk. I understand the urgency of the work - thats not the problem. The problem is that this office left me totally uncomfortable today. I expect that from a used car salesman, and I go in prepared for it. But not from my dentist. I even recommended them to my wife. This really stinks.
