Their butcher counter is pretty much unparalleled compared to other Asian supermarkets with the exception of maybe large format Hmarts. DC carries a wide breadth of edible animal products both au naturel and marinated, including more familiar meats such as pork chops, short rib, flank steak, sea bass, running the gamut to less commonly appreciated though edible parts like frog legs, pork lung and hocks, beef tongue, whelk. Marinated specialties like tangerine peel minced beef and pork ribs in pickled plum sauce caught my attention, among many others. The second largest section is the ready-to-eat food section, with items pre-portioned in takeout containers, priced by the container. This area is composed of several counters with a wide selection of steamed, deep-fried, baked, sautéed and stewed dishes, all categories covered--vegetables, meats, carbs, savory and sweet--food items for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Overall food quality is not quite on par with good restaurants as some other reviews mention, though not too bad if you're looking for a quick simple meal. Aside from aforementioned meat, some seafood, and takeout, they have a suitable breadth of fresh produce, refrigerated/chilled, dried and frozen foods. I first saw this Korean food truck when I was picking up some sushi from across the street. Then, I was craving soondae (also known as Korean blood sausage) the following day and decided to try it out. There was one place that I used to go to but that place closed years ago. Other places I've tried were mediocre at best. The first time around, I ordered soondae ($8) and stir-fried soondae ($10). The stir-fried soondae contained soondae, cabbage, vermicelli noodles, slices of rice cake, onions, and some bean sprouts. The sauce, made from korean pepper paste, was fairly spicy. So if you are not able to handle spicy food, stick with regular soondae or have a large cup of water handy. I really enjoyed this dish and the price was worth it for their portion. You also get a small salad with your order. The next time I visited, I bought the $13 stir-fried soondae and an order of soondae. The $13 stir-fried soondae contained all the above along with other organ meats such as kidney, liver, and innards. After finishing the stir-fried soondae, I grabbed the regular soondae and dipped it in the leftover sauce. It tasted pretty darn good like that! I am unable to comment on the other dishes they have on their menu but their soondae is pretty solid. I will definitely continue to buy my soondae from this place so long as the taste and portion remains the same.

Instead, walk 10-15 minutes south on Kissena Blvd and you will find a group of street vendors gathering nightly on the sidewalk right in front of Gold City Supermarket. On a beautiful night, you'll find many people camping out on the ledge of the supermarket parking lot, or even putting out picnic blankets, while enjoying various street foods they can find at this great little "food fest". The street vendors are from different regions of China and serves all sorts of yummy goodies. You can find lots of fried items, soup noodles, grilled skewers, marinated meats and veggies, desserts, etc. One of my favorite stalls is the vendor selling hand torn shredded chicken ($25 each), which they dress up in seasoning and spices. They use an older chicken that has a firmer texture that won't fall apart when tearing the meat. The flavor is wonderful and absolutely addictive. They even give you a frequent buyer card that gets you a free chicken when you reached six purchases. The same stall also sells marinated items that are quite good. You are allowed to mix and match as long as they have the same price point. Another stall I would recommend is the stinky tofu stall. There are often more than one, but I like the one with the longest table space only dedicated to this single product, often in the middle of the block. If you have never tried this delicacy, close your nose and give it a go. You may be pleasantly surprised. Other stands that are popular include the BBQ grilled meats over charcoal, where you can get $2-3 skewers of lamb, beef, chicken wings, and whole lot more. Also, if you see the man grilling whole squids, his stuff is quite tasty too. Bottom line, it's a fun evening hanging out with your friends and snacking on various yummy bites. Be brave and try something new. Though there are few English signs, just order what looks good. Find a day with nice weather and check it out soon.
