Once upon a time, around 12 years ago, there used to be a food cart on the corner of bell and Northern in front of CVS. This little cart sold souvlaki sticks for like 2 bucks a stick. How do I remember this? I tried it like once in my twenty something plus years (not giving away my age ;) living here. This little cart was the sole owner of this corner. Life was good. Then, the Halal carts of Flushing Main Street started to expand their territory. Note, this was when Halal was getting hot just as I am getting right now what. Halal carts started popping up in front of taco bell on Northern. Then it popped up in Bell and Northern, right next to the Greek Cart. In a purely Capitalistic World, competition is good. For the little cart owner who had no competition before, competition is bad. Before I knew it, this little Greek Cart disappeared and only the Halal Cart remained. Fast forward a few years, "The King Returns" (pun intended). Now, I don't know if that little Greek Cart was the start of King Souvlaki, but I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case. The little Greek Cart that only used to sell souvlaki, now sells Huge Platters with salad, Tzatziki (pronounced Zza-zee-kee), and huge amounts of meat. This place is always packed. They came back, they saw, they conquered. Kings Moral of the story, when life presents trouble, you might fall, hide, and run temporarily. But during this time you get stronger, you prepare, you evolve, and you come back to claim the throne. No bias here, but that Halal Cart doesn't stand a chance to "King" Souvlaki and the lines show for it.
