Sadly, my most recent round of TMS was a completely different experience and ultimately led me to leave the practice. Before starting this round, I discussed being treated for a different condition than in prior years, and Dr. Nangia agreed to it. However, at my first appointment he seemed to forget that discussion and initially prepared to treat me for the other condition. I had to remind him of our prior conversation, which immediately made me concerned about communication and quality of care. As treatment continued, I had repeated issues with responsiveness and follow-through. For my remapping appointment, I was set up in the chair only to learn that Dr. Nangia was not in the office and I would need to return the next day. I was constantly reminded of the fact that they charge for missed appointments but when he didn't show up to my appointment, I didn't even get an apology. It's frustrating that they don't seem to hold themselves to the same standards expected of patients. When I raised concerns about treatment progress, there were many delays in getting responses for adjustment requests. Everyday it was a new medical assistant who would treat me, so I had to explain the situation repeatedly. Each day they told me they were waiting to hear back from him thru the patient portal and changes often took several days despite the limited number of insurance approved sessions I had left. What frustrated me most was not feeling heard during important discussions about my care. When I questioned the treatment plan, I did not feel my concerns were fully addressed. In fact, at one point I felt intimidated by the way Dr. Nangia spoke to me and I felt pressured to agree to a plan I had concerns with. I understand that ultimately the physician has final say on medical decisions, but I also believe patients should feel empowered, respected, and comfortable with the treatment plan. I do not blame the medical assistants. Everyone I interacted with was intelligent, polite and professional. My concerns are primarily about communication, responsiveness, and what felt like a significant decline in the personalized care the practice once provided. When treatment concluded, I discussed with Dr. Nangia some of my frustrations with the delays and breakdowns that occurred. He thanked me for the feedback but offered no resolution, so I asked to be referred elsewhere. Less than an hour later, I get a message in their patient portal stating that he is no longer my provider, along with some referrals. Upon examination, some of the referrals didn't appear to be a good match for my treatment needs and history. I was hoping they could provide some help with the transition process but I had to figure it out myself. I'm still grateful for the help Dr. Nangia gave me during difficult periods earlier in my life, which makes this experience especially disappointing. After ten years as a patient, I no longer felt confident continuing my care there. I recently finished TMS treatment successfully with another provider, so leaving this practice was the correct decision for me.

She is sensitive, and does modulate her demeanor absolutely appropriately depending on where you are in your recovery if you're in the throes of severe highs or lows. I've been seeing her for over 10 years and she is why I am as whole and functioning as I am. She is the one that characterized my progesterone levels as being too low, contributing to my anxiety that drove me into MDD episodes. She also ran thyroid panels that showed my active T3 was too low, instead of just looking at T4 like the rest of the MDs. She also worked with me to teach me to set therapy boundaries and responsibility so that I wouldn't dive into heavy therapy and exhaust myself emotionally. Boundaries, who would have thought?? So yeah, by all means, skip her if you just want a shoddy, half assed, 'Oh my poor dear' shoulder to cry on. I found Dr. Indianer to be a "straight shooter," and I would even say she showed me some tough love when I needed to try to focus more on my present and future rather than dwelling in the past or remaining caught up in my backstory. For someone who was in the middle of a crisis and visiting a psychiatrist for the first time, it was not a very reassuring setting. His beside manner also was very lacking in my opinion. I found him to be very robotic, and most of the appointment consisted of him asking me questions directly from a questionnaire where every single question started with the phrase "has there ever been a time when you weren't quite yourself" or something like that. Then he diagnosed me with depression and prescribed me anti depressants. He read off a long list of possible side effects, which was intimidating. I asked whether I should keep taking my sleep medication since I'd had terrible insomnia. He laughed and said I wouldn't need them anymore. The whole experience was so upsetting that I put off taking the medication for another three weeks, and then finally found another psychiatrist to get another opinion. She was much more personable and communicative, and she has an emergency number for urgent questions, which was much more reassuring. I've now made a full recovery. Also she would go above and beyond to provide the care for her patients. I was discharged from an acute hospital In early July 2025. I was too weak to make an office visit after the discharge. Dr. Kwok made 3 house calls in 5 days. I became very ill again on day 4. When she came to visit me on the 5th day , she called 911 and sent me to a different hospital which is better, but further from her office. She stayed in ER with me for 6 hours and visited me in the hospital daily for a week. Her dedication and professionalism truly saved my life. I am so lucky to have her as my doctor.

At no point was it made clear that these very brief and routine follow-up questions would be considered a separate, high-level billing item outside of the preventive care visit. I reached out to her office for clarification, as advised by the Sutter Health billing department, but unfortunately did not receive a resolution. My advice to others is this: during your preventive care visit, when the doctor greets you or casually asks "how are you?"--do not respond with anything health-related unless you are prepared to be charged for a non-preventive discussion. Even the most minor comment might result in an unexpected and costly bill. I hope the practice improves transparency around billing so patients can make informed decisions in real time and avoid surprises.
