I ordered a brand new and expensive AR upper from this shop a while back. When it finally came in, the owner delayed getting it to me, and when he finally did I took it home and discovered that this brand new upper had a barrel that was used and a bore that was shot out. A small shop located in Kaneohe, KGS may just have those pieces you need to finish up your build. Located on the second floor of the building, you wont see any advertisements or business signs posted. However, when you pass the single glass door, a quick glance inside will let you know your in the right place. Note, its about half way down the walkway... KGS is small, but they carry a suprising amount of parts for your build or extra parts bin. I was able to snag everything I needed to complete my AR build without any issues. Prices were also resonable considering the demand right now... The owner was quiet at first, and didnt really say anything when I came in... some may take it as bad customer service, but a little chit chat got him talking about all kinds of helpfull stuff... I gave only one star because of the most common-sense population will consider him rude, awkward, even mentally unstable, and I don't want to confuse people. I've interacted with the owner a number of times and purchased items from the shop. After seeing all the positive and negative reviews, I must say that there is probably some truth to every single one of them. To start, my friends and I have seen some of the worst of the owner, and his website can be disorganized and full of rants. However if you approach him humbly, ask semi-informed questions, and have intent to purchase, the owner is SUCH a helpful and knowledgeable instructor when it comes to firearms. I've returned a few times and checked my attitude before entering his shop and had nothing but great experiences since. Even his website is valuable resource on not just Hawaii firearm law but firearms in general, if you can get past the noise. I'd suggest as least giving it a look before entering his shop. Not at the shop, but there was one time when I was at the silhouette range when I brought a female friend to go shooting for the first time and noticed that the KGS owner was a few stalls down. When my friend started freaking out because of all the gunshot noise and shooting my 9mm was too scary, the KGS owner actually approached me and offered to help my friend with his .22 rifles and pistols. Since he's a certified instructor, I directed my friend his way and the KGS owner did a pretty good impromptu introduction to firearms for her, which she told me later was incredibly helpful. If you can get past his occasional rants and impatience for those who don't do their own research before asking questions or have intent to buy, I'd totally recommend KGS for your firearm needs on the Windward side, and especially if you're a beginner. read more

Wow what an experience coming to this shop. If I could rate this shop lower than a 1 star I'd give it a -3. I posted a photo of a half eaten hotdog because thats pretty much the experienced I got coming here. I drove all the way from Kapolei (45min) to check out his shop because he had a Glock Barrel I've been looking for. I get to the compound where his shop is located, but I can't find it because there's no sign outside establishment. So I call the shop and the owner Daniel answers the phone with little to no help. As soon as I enter the shop I greeted him while he was on the computer. He gave no response or even a look in my direction. I was looking at some of the accessories and he rudely asked why I was here. I politely told him I'm just looking around. He then started interrogating me and my reasons for being in his shop. Hands down the worst customer service I've ever received. Even though I really wanted that glock barrel he had on his shelf, I'd rather of donated my money to a foundation that tries cross breeds tigers and monk seals. Was visiting young, adult children new to the area. We all workout regularly, including jogging on surface streets, so I wanted to get them some kind of non-lethal self-defense solution after hearing about unleashed or loose dogs and crime in some areas of the island. Surprised to learn that pepper spray is not available at Walmart, so called as many gun shops as I could find listed and finally found Kaneohe Gun Shop. Daniel was great. He took time to introduce himself, shared his personal history and a few stories, and showed me a few products among his inventory after we discussed my concerns and objectives for effective safety. Daniel was professional, communicative, extremely knowledgeable, and very serious about the responsibility of even pepper spray use, yet he was cordial and friendly. Note: he had very little left in his small inventory. And the cannister I bought was very reasonably priced compared to what I was quoted by other shops. For you collectors or those of you interested in more lethal personal safety devices, I noticed he had an impressive armory. And if you didn't know, there will be new law changes in Jan. 2024 -- you'll need more than a handgun safety or hunter's ed class to make a purchase. More stringent permit requirements are a good thing, but get self-educated and buy soon. read more

I'd give this place no stars just because Daniel is a real ass when it comes to customer service. You would figure, the way the economy is now, you'd do a lot to make customers happy...not this guy. Rude, inconsiderate and plainly has no social skills whatsoever. You first walk in...small, nice tucked away shop, then you get greeted with the weirdest look by the owner. It's like you're looked down upon for some odd reason. Come into the shop with a military uniform and you'll get it worse. His prices are one of the best in the island, but who would want to buy anything from a guy who just doesn't want to sell you anything. I was there when a military guy was shopping for a Glock. Daniel (the owner) says this to him..."do you have a gun license...if not it's a waste of my time showing you anything in my shelf because you can't buy anything anyway!" That's the best sales tactic I've ever heard! He's a "Mister Know-It-All" and if you come in not having any clue on what to buy...good luck! Proceed with caution when investing in a firearm from this company. He sold a used gun at a brand new price to my husband. Only to find out later from an actual authentic integrity filled gun professional it had been shot over 1000 times before we bought it with a rusted trigger showing extreme signs of use/wear and tear that my husband purchased from him was all jumbleclucked and not functional to shoot right away. He had to sit down at the dinner table for 2 hours to pull it all apart to put it back together. Luckily he has experience in firearms so he got it to work however its extremely shifty and shadey to sell a used fire arm as "brand new" let alone unfunctional to the point if you don't know what you're doing would have to come back to the shop to ask for him to fix it. Dishonest salesman techniques and complains an awful lot about his own business and financial problems to customers. The tone in his voice is very rude and curt. Also he doesn't take pride in submitting ledgibal paper work. Overall horrible experience and super unprofessional attitude and service at this location. Yes experience does matter and I find it very interesting how this location no longer has google maps to its store. I'm giving a fair, and honest review, for this shop. Kaneohe Gun Shop and the owner Daniel, has never given me any problems, like others claim in their reviews. I'm very much a novice as far as firearms are concerned, but a friend brought me here to purchase parts to build my AR-15. Daniel took the time to talk to us, about the lowers he had in stock, which were worth more, or limited editions. The guy went as far as to tell me, I shouldn't buy the more expensive Noveske lower that he had in stock because you are only paying for the brand name, mechanically it will shoot the same. That is something that is extremely rare in sales, he didn't try to upsell me, he was honest and to the point. I decided on my lower, paid for it, and Daniel held it for two weeks while I got my long gun permit, I picked it up , registered it , no problem. Initially my plan was to just buy the lower from Daniel and KGS, then purchase the rest of my parts online. I didn't do that because after a few visits to the shop, I realized he beats online prices, and I don't need to pay for shipping. I ended up purchasing all my lower parts from Daniel, and will be purchasing my upper parts in the next day or so. Daniel even threw in a free wrench with my purchase of lower parts. I didn't ask for one, but he just did it. Bottom line, you give respect, you get respect here. Daniel can be a little rough around the edges, but that is ok. I've seen him get short with a customer and honestly it was because the customer was there to waste his time. I get there is probably a more tactful way for him to approach these situations, but it is what it is, you can't teach an old dog new tricks, as the saying goes. Fortunately he is very knowledgeable, with that being said, plan to spend at least an hour there, every time you go. it's quite easy to get caught up talking with Daniel. Prices aren't that bad....... That's where the good ends! This guy is an ass with a messed up attitude. For the life of me I can not believe he actually has customers that buy from him. I was in his store when a couple came in to inquire about a firearms safety class and the potential purchase of a couple of handguns. He treated them like crap.......he actually treated them so bad they just turned their backs and walked out. When I ran into them outside, I just told them to go to Security Equipment, Young Guns or OCG Tactical or Gun Source. Perhaps Daniel should take some of his profits and take some classes on improving his personality. He is right up there with with Magnum Firearms (when they were in business.....before his little IRS thing). Oh......and his claims of giving discounts to firearms instructors.....well when I showed him I was an NRA instructor, his comment was "Well I don't know you, so I won't give you one". Here's what you are gonna get at KGS...No frills, cut to the chase, no B.S., respectable gun expertise, and a fair price. This is a sole proprietorship....this ain't Cabela's where the 10 salesmen can hang around and talk story all day long. Find another one on the Windward side if you can. I got the best deal on Oahu for a Ruger 10/22 takedown ( best deal by $300), and then without asking Daniel also set aside a brick of .22LR for me and held my gun for 3 weeks while I was getting my permit. To be honest, I was a little nervous after reading some of the reviews (and my first phone call left me even more so...he can be a bit gruff). But if you get your ducks in row, don't waste time, and know what you are looking for, you will get a good deal. Do you know how many grouchy old men there are in Texas Gun Shops? Daniel is super chill and mellow by comparison. I got two more gun purchases planned for this year. I will do my research, and then go to KGS to make it happen. If, however, you are man- (or women-) enough to handle a reality check and some honest answers, then there is probably no better place than KGS and Daniel. I've heard/read non-stop bashing about KGS and Daniel. I'm no fan-boy but I have a feeling that the majority of people go in there with a presumption of his character and/or do not appreciate critique. I've been there more than a dozen times, and more than half the time, I have gone to just talk to him, with no intent on purchase. Believe me, I've been to other shops on the island and I appreciate many different things from different shops (all which have their nay-sayers as well). You need only to check out his website, www.kaneohegs.com, to realize that he's very blunt and, in my opinion, logical in his opinions. You may not agree but of the times I've been there and observed "debates", it has never gotten to the point of bashing customers. I have seen an irate customer come in to work out a refund of sort, but Daniel was very composed and talked in a very calm matter, as to work out a solution. I am not to say that fellow Yelpers are wrong, but people thinking of going to this shop should just be aware of the fact that he has strong opinions and states them vehemently. I continue to go because I like his no BS approach to firearms/safety and really, his prices are some of the best on the island (comparable to some wholesale online prices). With three Hurricanes just barely missing the islands I felt t was time to do something- I am not getting stuck like the people in Hurricane Katrina. I probably could have shut my mouth a little bit and he would cover more detail. Sole Proprietors cannot afford to have people "Showrooming" You have to buy the gun in Hawaii anyway or through one of these dealers. Known Daniel for quite a few years now and he has ALWAYS been very helpful in finding whatever product I have needed. Also, I might add that Daniel has contributed his time and knowledge to Hawaii's community in regards to protecting our 2nd amendment rights. I understand all too well the stresses of owning your own business and let alone a firearms business and I know that Daniel has a awesome responsibility to insure that when he is selling a weapon that the person buying really understands the potential liability. In doing so he does his part to not give gun banning individuals an excuse to try and take away our guns. Daniel is passionate about firearms and self defense as well as training. Let me ask you, wouldn't you rather go to a person that lives the life style and knows what he is talking about or just someone that gives you the same old bullshit with a big smile and sells you something you will never need or even want. I called this shop to learn more about the Glock Blue Label process and to find out how I can attend classes and training to shoot on the island. the gentleman who answered the phone went on an angry rant referring to me as "people" about how he cannot order and move product in and out of his shop. He was cussing and I had to tell him to calm down and that I was only after information on how the process works and how to have some gun fun on the island. Once I finally stopped him from his angry rant, I steered him onto the topic of training. He cut me off and told me he has two customers in he needed to help! AND HUNG UP ON ME! I was so shocked to contact such an angry person over the phone... and over a question. I seriously thought I was being pranked or something. Call this guy and ask him about the Blue Label Program!
