I was just in to pick up a gift card, in this business it's a gift certificate, for my son. This business is literally "locked and loaded" and very professional. No joking, serious and direct. There were several people looking to buy handguns and they were informed of the laws regarding revolvers, rifles and knives.....lots of knives. There was a lot of personal protection stuff ie pepper spray, vests, belts, bullet proof gear. Also an abundance of flashlights, flashing warning lights, tactical lights that would make your backyard light up and seen at the ISS. The staff is patient with people wanting to purchase a hand gun. Going over the specifics and pitfalls and consequences of wrong information or things that would invalidate the application. Seem to know what they're doing and helping you to navigate Hawaii/Honolulu's convoluted gun laws. While they do have a parking lot next to the building there was no parking except on the street which is always difficult in this area. It's not a open-door business. You stand outside at the door until someone comes and lets you in and you won't be greeted by a perky clerk. These guys have been around for a long time IMO one of the premiere gun shops on island... Located across wesco and across the old sears maintenance shop. Parking is (I believe mostly all street with a few stalls on the side of the building. Inside is bigger than most gun shops (actually they probably are the biggest) the sales floor is filled with an abundant selection of gun accessories from holsters ..cleaning supplies... optics.. target products etc... They have a large selection of pistols.. sporting rifles.. shotguns and tactical rifles. I entered the establishment, to purchase a Magpul PMAG GEN M3 Window AR-15 .223/5.56 30-Round Magazine. The individual who was assisting me notified me that to purchase this specific magazine, I would have to sign a waiver. (not required, or stated under any of the Hawaii Revised Statutes (HRS) Chapter 134). The individual informed me that this was a necessary step to educate me; of the Hawaii Gun Laws. (as a firearm owner, shouldn't we already all be well versed in HAWAII'S firearm laws, rules, and regulations?) Although now I was annoyed, I understood that this was to "protect" themselves from the possibility of prosecution, or repercussions. If the extent of the processes was to read, acknowledge, sign, then date; I would of obliged; however the individual required name, ADDRESS OF RESIDENCE, proof of identification, name, signature. (Why would a place of business, not legally required to (for this particular sale), ask for personal information, then decline a sale otherwise? Is this business secretly trying to add you to their mailing list, of over priced items? Is this business selling your information? Is this individual employee an identity criminal? Is this business a front for a more heinous crime?... Probably not, but you never know) This employee then preceded to profile me, stating "Well, based on the way you are acting, how do I know you are not a criminal, or if you are allowed to own this item?" OK, thats fine, I understand the immature nature of your disposition, I will leave your establishment... also.. 24.98 ?!?!? Thats almost 39% markup from Magpul's website MSRP. Customer service here is outstanding! They're friendly, upfront and knowledgeable. They took the time to listen to our preferences and recommended suitable firearms. Even during COVID, when ammo and firearms are scarce, Young Guns has a decent inventory and can be reached by phone regarding their inventory (that comes in almost weekly). For covid precautions, you must wait outside (there will probably be a line), and they'll come out to take the next person in as a customer is leaving. They take temperatures and offer hand sanitizer. They have a private lot as well as street parking. In addition to firearms, they also sell targets, mace/pepper spray, safes, and other self-defense and safety products. I highly recommend Young Guns! However, after a few seconds you are greeted by a friendly worker and they make you feel comfortable. They obviously have a good variety of guns, but they also have flashlights, pepper spray and other cool stuff - not just guns. Their customer service was excellent. I was looking to get a name brand pocket knife for a gift and I searched Yelp to see if there were any places for me to look at. Yes; I could've gone on-line and just ordered one, but since it was a gift I wanted the opportunity to at least see it in person. To my surprise, when I typed in pocket knife or cutlery nothing really popped up. Then I used some other search words and eventually ended up on Young Guns and surfed to their website where they had a page for knifes. Their hours have been adjusted due to COVID so the website is not accurate. I didn't want to take pics inside the store as to not look suspicious so you have to check it out yourself; or look on the Yelp pics. They are also on Facebook. Being in a gun store I didn't know what to expect, so when I got there there were a few ppl waiting outside. There is a limit of how many folks can be in the store at the same time due to COVID (a good thing). When I got passed the door I was asked what I was looking for and they directed me to the knife display. They have a lot to select from. From short & long folding knifes, to hunting knifes, to fishing knifes and even Chef knifes. Someone came over and asked if I wanted to see anything and of course I asked to see a few of them. After I handled each one, the clerk carefully wiped them down to put them back into the case (another good thing). Experience: Epic. The staff was friendly and showed me how to open and close the knife. I ask about returns and they do have a return policy. Be sure to get the details as I'm sure it's different for other merchandise. They are also taking COVID seriously!! So wear a mask. Product: The knifes are pretty quality. They range from $ to $$$$. online prices are pretty decent but..... the way they handled the whole situation with the firearms i purchased via online was not okay. they usually have to call you once your order comes arrives in 7- 10 from their warehouse. I ended up waiting 12 actual business days (not including the holidays!) to give them the benefit of the doubt to only find out they had it the whole time. it took 2 phone calls to confirm delivery. one where they took my information down and they had to look for it and the two only to call me 3 hours later saying they finally found it ands its ready to pick up. Their customer service is okay and i feel like when you wait outside to be noticed the longest i waited was almost 20mins before having to stick my face in the window multiple times. Security Equip. on young street has way better response time to the door and they're slammed every time i go! their ammo prices are kinda steep i ended up paying 2x the prices of other stores ammo prices over here. Centrally situated in Mapunapuna at the corner of Mapunapuna and Paa streets across from Sears Parts & Repair Center, this 19 year old gun shop takes up residence on the bottom floor of a shared business building and is among one of my favorite specialty shops on the island. On any given day, parking can pose as a bit of a challenge even though there's the option of street parking fronting the store, as well as the adjacent lot parking. Fortunately, I've always somehow been lucky to snag the last parking spot of the moment. As you enter this well stocked shop, you'll immediately be greeted warmly by the friendliest, most helpful staff who are ready to assist with your sweet cravings. For this visit, I bee line over to their yummy handguns which are displayed neatly in a spacious L-shaped glass case at the opposing wall to the main entrance. Scanning the rest of the store, I catch glimpses of glistening knives, interesting gear, innovative storage, delicious ammo, etc. Basically, all the tempting goodies any enthusiast might have a hankering for. Whether Young Guns is Hawaii's best gun and knife shop, you can decide. Great as I remembered! Last time I purchased ammo was in 2000. Been out of shooting for the past 21 years. But went in to get some ammo 21 years later and service was awesome!!! The sales person (tall guy who was at the door letting everyone in) was very helpful and even took the time to answer my dumb questions on how to get back into the loop. I came here to purchase pepper spray and was helped right away. They have several to choose from, but I just wanted a mini type that would fit in my bag or on a keychain. The staff member was very helpful giving me instructions on how to use the pepper spray, how to test it, and how to dispose of it as its shelf life is about 3 years. This was my first visit to Young Guns. I was looking for gun cleaning supplies for a gun i received as a gift. I wandered through the store for a minute and found the cleaning supplies as an employee greeted me and asked if he could help. I told him what I was looking for and he took the time to show me all of my options and he gave me his recommendations. He was very patient and took the time to listen to my concerns. I am a very inexperienced gun owner and must have sounded quite stupid. He treated me like I was a regular customer and never made me feel dumb. He answered all my questions and I walked out with everything I needed and I even learned a few things from him. I will be shopping here for all my hunting needs. read more

This store has a decent variety of firearms. The good thing about this place is that the staff are friendly, they acknowledge you as you enter the store, and are open to answering your questions. They are very knowledgeable about HAWAII's gun laws and are very informative about different firearms. BUT... The bad experience I had with them was that I signed up for a firearms training class for a weekend. The first weekend I scheduled for, my instructor (who I will not mention) canceled on me because of the Superbowl. I mean my Patriots were playing and I actually sacrificed watching the Superbowl to get this training class over and done with. But it was canceled. So I rescheduled it for the following weekend. I had to pull some strings to get my request off from work granted, only for the class to be canceled again for some reason i'm not aware of. So I rescheduled with them the following upcoming weekend and had to beg to get the day off from work. I got the day off from work only for the instructor to call me the night before my morning class that I am the only person that signed up for the class. Since it was ONLY ME, he canceled the class in hopes that the following week he may get more people to sign up with me. I was already irritable and mentioned I had paid for the class 3 weeks ago only to be canceled 3 weekends in a row. It shouldnt matter if i'm the only person that signed up for the class, I am still a paying customer. My patience was tested especially if I have to KEEP requesting off every weekend from work FOR NOTHING. Lastly, lets just say WHAT IF I kept rescheduling for the following weekends, whose to say im still the only one signed up for the class week to week. Are they just going to keep pushing for a reschedule? This is the only thing that disappointed me. From a highly talked about place with such great reputation and reviews, this completely disappointed me. The instructor had the nerve to tell me if I want to do my class asap, to just go back to the store to get my money back and find someone else to do my training. Which I was very much happy to do so. I canceled my class with Young Gun's instructors, got my full refund, and outsourced another instructor. I found someone who was willing to do my class ASAP, ON A WEEKDAY, since im actually off a couple weekdays and work weekends. I didnt have to request off to do my class. I didnt have to work around Young Gun's schedule which the classes are only available on weekends, but I got an instructor to work around mine. Now I have my permits and I wont be shopping at Young Guns. I would give them a 1 star but ill give them 2, only because majority of the staff were nice. But they need to get their class schedules straightened out. It shouldnt matter if only 1 person signs up for a firearms training class. Yet it's up to the instructors to make that call... pfffft, I outsourced an instructor and I WAS THE ONLY ONE IN HIS CLASS, yet he took time out of his day to teach a single individual and walk me through the training and everything.
