I love plants. This place is really neat. The ONLY reason I deducted two stars is because the staff there (the older women at check out) are very rude and not personable. I've NEVER been greeted with a "hello" or a "welcome" in the millions of times that I've been in. No one ever asks if you need help (which is whatever, because I can ask myself- but that's not the point). I spend a lot of money here... and to be honest, if there were another place like this in the area, I would stop visiting Kane's. Sometimes, I don't even like going in alone because it's uncomfortable and they look at you like you're clueless, or up to no good. I believe there is too much negativity in the world, which is why I refrain from writing negative reviews. I stick with the old adage, "If you don't have anything good to say, don't say anything at all". However, in the case of Kane's Flower World, unfortunately, I find it necessary to make an exception. I have been a customer for at 10 years, ever since moving to this area, and my issue has never been with their staff, who have always been courteous and helpful; it is with the owners. The husband and wife who own Kane's are flat out rude, lacking even the most basic of customer service skills or pleasantries. If you enter their store within 30 minutes of closing, you are immediately 'greeted' by one of them announcing from the sales counter (which is located near the entrance), "We're closing in 30 minutes!". Okay, how about, "Hello!" or "Welcome to Kane's!". But no, you get the terse 30 minute warning. I recently visited for an item and it must have been closing time. Mr. Kane was literally at the door, customers were checking out at the sales counter. What did he say to me? Not "Hello" or any other pleasantry. No of course not. He barked, "We're closing the store, what do you want?" I sheepishly told him, half-intimidated by his attitude, once again. "We're sold out, we're closing the store", and with that I was turned away at the door for the day. On the drive home, I telephoned Kane's, and Mr. Kane answered. I politely told him who I was, and that how I was treated at the door is not the way to treat any customer, no less a longtime customer. He immediately became irate, said that I should know the store hours, that he does pay his employees overtime, and denied the '30 minute warning' closing announcement from the sales counter as soon as you walk through the door. Well, he can deny it all he wants, but it has happened to me several times over the years. As for not paying his employees overtime, if he is so cheap as to herd his customers like cattle and treat them like dirt to avoid paying his employees a few extra dollars, that is even more of a reason for me to never shop a Kane's Flower World in the future. Bought 4 beautiful poinsettias (2 extra large and 2 large) and they are holding up really well for the holiday season. The star rating is due to the lackluster customer service. Five people standing around at the register all talking to each other. As soon as I pay, the cashier turns her back to me and continues their conversation. No one offered to help me to my car and they don't have carts, so I had to make 3 trips to get them all in the car. Very disappointed in their customer service!!!!! I asked to speak with someone regarding the policy on returns or some sort of guarantee for the $300 purchase I made that consisted of a variety of shrubs. The azelas never bloomed and are now completely dead I was hoping that they would at least offer to compensate I had pictures and proof of purchase.... Awful nobody picks up the phone to ask a simple question The web site gives little or no information

I went to Kane's flower World today to purchase potting soil, paid for the potting soil, asked for help to put it in my car and expected it to be done before the next customer was helped. This did not happen. So because I'm a senior citizen with asthma and could not continue to wait in that heat I picked up a very heavy bag and put it in my own car because the young woman was helping the next person in line and expecting me to wait until they were through with the purchase. I feel as though seniors are treated like second-class citizens. One's hair turns white and you seem to be invisible to others. The guy that closes the gate--of whom is not the owner. Quite possibly the grounds keeper? Is INCREDIBLY Rude and disrespectful. My fiancé and I Got yelled at frantically to leave the store because it was closing, not in 1 minute as we gathered our things but IMMEDIATELY Having to LEAVE. Upon getting into the car we were gps'ing a route and again this person drives up along side of our car not 60secs of us getting Into our car and signals us to roll down the window and proceeds to yell at us to get out of the parking "NOW" or else he's going to lock us in and close the gate..... What in the actual hell is wrong with this person where they think it's okay to treat a person let alone a customer this way. This was and is absolutely unacceptable. Simply off this experience alone we will not be back and we will be passing this message along to business friends that know that come here. This place is my go-to for plants! The plants are healthy, and the prices are unbeatable compared to what other garden shops ask. I have seen some reviews with complaints about the customer service. I personally have never had an issue with any of the staff at check-out nor when I message them to ask a question. My parents bought me a plant here 3 days ago and left it in my kitchen while I was away. When I got back I saw it and decided to return it. It's a nice plant by not my style. I was hoping they would let me return it or exchange it. If given store credit I figured I'd spend at least as much as the plan cost because I do want some house plants. Walked in with the plant and asked if it would be possible to make a return or exchange. The woman working at the cash register looked at me like it was the dumbest question ever. I explained it was a gift and I was hoping to exchange for another plant and she said they don't do returns or exchanges at all. I understand returning a plant is a little odd but it looked beautiful and obviously wasn't damaged, and they could have made more if I chose a more expensive plant so not sure what the benefit was to them in refusing to exchange. read more

These reviews are hilarious. If you checked Google Reviews you can see how skewed these are. It's because Boomers are the only on a who use Yelp and are completely unrealistic in their expectations. I used to work as a florist and the amount of bullshit people would pull with returns and scams, a small business could never survive if they accepted returns or exchanges. They're very clear about their policies. If you don't know or ask about them before hand that's on YOU. Anyways the plants are great and the cats are adorable. I love shopping here. Also Home Depot uses toxic pesticides that KILL BEES so if you're advocating for people to shop from HOME DEPOT I don't think people should take your reviews seriously in the first place. read more

Yes, they have a great selection, which is what drew me there. I have bought a number of plants over the past few years. However, this year I bought a peony that was tagged with the variety I really wanted. 2 weeks later, it bloomed, and it was clear that it was the wrong plant. After a couple of phone calls and conversations with a manager, it was clear that they care nothing for the customer and their money is the most important thing to them. The manager insisted that I DIG up the plant and bring it back to them for a refund. I pointed out to him that this is a tremendous inconvenience to me, that I had to pay someone to plant it in the first place, and that I do not have the body strength to dig up and transport this thing back. The whole suggestion is a complete burden to me as the customer, as I end up with NOTHINg in the end, and they are no longer stocking the variety I wanted. I hope it was worth the wholesale cost of about $12 for them that they saved by not accommodating me with a refund or store credit. They have lost my business for good, and I hope people will read this and follow suit. DON'T BUY FROM THEM. They are jerks. read more

The outdoor plants and gardening supplies are fine...but all their indoor plants are infested with mealy bugs... The worst part is that they know it and don't give a crap... I tried to tell management about it and they played stupid about it like it was no big deal... Prices are okay and the selection is good, if not very exciting, but the employees mostly couldn't care less and even seem to go out of their way to be difficult and obnoxious. I've had it - I'll go to Corliss Bros. up in Ipswich from now on. They have a better selection and they genuinely care about their customers. Later: I posted the above before I read any other reviews. Now that I have, I am even more determined never to go back - rude and obnoxious employees is a recurring theme here, and has been for a couple of years at least. That they HAVE to know about this and have done absolutely nothing to correct it is appalling. I thought my experience was an isolated event, and that was bad enough. They have a large variety of plant & shrubs. I asked about a return policy for any plants not needed in my project. All HELL broke loose. I was all but asked to leave. Was just screamed at and demeaned by the owner whom I was told is Mr. Kane after I asked who I was speaking with. My mom purchased 4 hardy mum plants for me as a gift for my newborn and one plant is healthy and 3 have died. All have been watered and cared for the same way. When we called this morning and explained the situation we were told to bring down the plants and work something out. However when we arrive just now with the plants we were basically spoken to like we are trash and told that it's our fault. If it was my fault then how is one plant thriving while the other 3 are dead? The owner raised his voice the moment he spoke to us and was extremely condescending and rude and would not even speak to us in a calm and rational tone as any paying customer deserves to be. Extremely abrasive and quite frankly spoke to us in a threatening and uncomfortable tone. Do NOT waste your time or money at this store. Do yourself a favor and visit smaller local businesses like Tilly's in Peabody who are very nice people and would never treat their customers this way. read more

Great selection. Terrible customer service. Been in here many times and am usually "greeted" by a bitter old woman. Smiles bounce off this woman like arrows off Achilles. This morning I had the same experience as Frank W and Joanna R. Called ahead to ask if they had a particular variety of tomato plant. Was told "I have no idea what's out there." I said "I'm sorry to be a pain, but you'd really save me a lot of driving if you could run out and take a look." (why have a phone number otherwise?!!?) She told me "we're far too busy." I ended up going there anyway (simply because I'd tried everywhere else) and the employees were all just standing around gossiping. I didn't see the mean woman I usually encounter in there (and I was glad because I might have fear-peed a little), but come on people! Customer service is 90% of the game! read more

I will not go back. Just spent $20 for one of their orchids. First of all, when I asked about home care I got a snotty reply until I let them know this was my second orchid and that I've successfully had my first blooming for almost a year. Then they warmed up...kinda'. Then today I called because I realized there is no drainage hole in the bottom of the pot. That can cause a real problem. I was told to just water it every week or 10 days. Now, I know that's not good for any plant. So I suggested that I water it and then pour out the excess after a few minutes? They said that would work. Really? The expected response was: Why don't you stop by and we'll give you a new pot. Or maybe even, bring it back and we'll change the pot for you. No, neither. Spend a few hundreds a year there. No more. They lost this customer. read more

I love Kane's because I love getting new indoor plants and considering I have over 100+ different plants, it's often difficult finding something new and interesting, which is why I love Kane's, because I always find something new that I don't already have. I love their large greenhouse full of tropicals, succulents, cactus, flowers, trees and more.. it's heaven.. and there's even adorable cats that follow you around the store. The staff were friendly and very helpful. I got answers to all my questions and each time I've been there it's always been a wonderful and pleasant experience. The place is HUGE, has multiple greenhouses as well as trees, shrubs, etc outdoors, and plenty of parking. I haven't bought soil or supplies here, but for plants their prices seem to be lower than anywhere else. read more

Kane's has a nice variety of flowers,plants and greenery. It is well organized and the employees (younger staff) on the floor are helpful. My boyfriend and I stop in once and a while hoping that the next experience is better than the last. I gave it one star because when it's time to check out the older ladies at the register are extremely rude. They have no patience and aren't sensitive to the fact that customer are not experts when it comes to flower selection and look at them for guidance. They rush you out, extremely short and dismissive. If they want to continue to grow and have customers return more frequently they need to get rid or train the employees (older ladies) at the front counter. Definitely recommend this place to purchase flowers just hope you don't get eaten alive by the older ladies at the counter. read more
