For this being a small family-ran store there were lots of gifts and souvenirs to choose from, the more we looked around the more we added to our purchases! The owner was very friendly and shared their 5 generations of family history raising cattle with us. The handmade products they sell reflect their proud cattle ranching heritage by using beef tallow as an important ingredient in their skincare products and one of their hats had the various family cattle brands incorporated into the design. Although this was a quick stop to grab steaks we really enjoyed talking to the owner and the shopping experience. I highly recommend stopping by! The fish was good enough to stand on its own, so drowning it in butter felt unnecessary. We got the lilikoi cheesecake for dessert and enjoyed it, but they were way too stingy with the lilikoi sauce. Come on, Living Foods, lilikoi sauce is not a controlled substance. Pour a little more on there. The lilikoi cheesecake at Bar Acuda was 10x better. I went back the next day for brunch and had a very different experience. I ordered the loco moco, which the menu explicitly said came with kimchi fried rice. What arrived was plain white rice. When I pointed out that the menu said kimchi fried rice, they brought me a side of kimchi. That honestly annoyed me. Kimchi fried rice is an actual dish. You don't get to advertise it and then serve plain white rice with kimchi on the side like you've fulfilled the assignment. That's like advertising blueberry pancakes, serving plain pancakes with a bowl of blueberries, and calling it close enough. Just do us all a solid and take the kimchi fried rice off the menu. The loco moco itself was also so overcooked and rubbery that chewing it became the main brunch activity. My boyfriend had much better luck with the chilaquiles, which he enjoyed, so brunch wasn't a total loss. I was also surprised by how few vegetables are actually on the menu. For a place centered around fresh, natural, health-conscious food, I expected more appearances from the plant kingdom. Our location has some distinct qualities that you may want to know before you go. 1) this is a local gathering place, if your expecting a Costco-RAT-Race, like the mainland, think again. People often stop to give hugs and aloha to friends they see, staying to chat in inconvenient areas to tourist (I am totally guilty of this, and I love seeing my friends, students and their families- you just got to send them your "ALOHA") This may be annoying to some people, but it is a way of life here- so just be happy to have a little slice of aloha. 2) they don't always have stock- Tuesdays are a great day to go. Lastly, 3) checking out. If you choose to self-check out... you may be confused. As it stands now, and for a really long time, there is one line to stand in for 3 lanes of check out. Is it logical: no. Does it confuse visitors and even people like me: yes. For some reason, Costco wants all self-checkout folks to stand in one line and then go calmly and orderly to whichever of the 3 checkout lane openings is free. This really confuses visitors, and sometimes even leaves them with stink eye or scoldings from the locals. After all, those who live on Kauai have been trained to the 1 line system. About 1/2 the time, there is a staff that alerts the next person to go to the available self-check out, but where they are not there, or need to assist someone with self-checkout or review and ID for alcohol: they are not there. I am really not sure why they have kept this single line system, rather than having 3 lines, but I guess there must be some reason for this. Does anyone know? 4) Please be kind to the staff, offer some aloha to them- Q, Carry and Deb are some of my favorite folks. Costco always tolerates me coming in costume as Darth Vadar and Princess Leia. This Costco is part of the aloha experience- please treat it with love. ***** If you are an executive member- this Costco is opening earlier for you! So decided to go to Costco to see if their optical department could tighten my Costco glasses before heading back to the mainland. The optical department closes earlier than the store itself, so we ended up wandering around. We intentionally went there on the last day after our luggage had been packed, thinking it would prevent us from buying things to bring back. But there were two things that we don't see on the mainland, that were of good price: 1.5 Coffee beans from Molokai Estate Coffee (100% from Molokai, and which my wife confirmed later was very good) and a Ube cream Liquor from the Philippines, that went great with the said coffee. Both fit in our checked bags and made it home safe. It wasn't too crowded because it was close to closing and was of large size, including self checkout lanes. Another good visit to Costco.

It was pretty good. I had the best fish plate. I chose the spicy Aji and shrimp. I got it with the edamame and cucumbers. I really enjoyed the crunch and the freshness of the cucumbers. The only thing I would suggest is that the plates could use a little more rice.
