This is our go-to local Korean BBQ spot. We love the wide variety of high-quality meats and seafood, especially at such a reasonable price point. The side dishes are just as impressive: the steamed egg, corn cheese, and japchae are always favorites. Our kids especially enjoy the assortment of banchan since they don't eat much meat, so there's plenty for everyone to enjoy. We also appreciate that the staff frequently changes the grill, which keeps everything cooking well and tasting fresh. The only downside is that the ventilation could be better. Great place for korean bbq in a group! The cheaper Premium option had all the meat I wanted so ended up going with the Premium menu. I really enjoyed the #9 Marinated Boneless Galbi and #27 Gopchang (small intestine). We got the wrong order a few times like the large intestines instead of the small intestines, but that was fine! They had good sides to order like the kimchi, sesame balls, corn cheese, sticky rice wraps, vegetables, green onion salad, pickled radish wrap, and ramen. But I will now tell you WHAT NOT TO ORDER! I came here with my husband and 3 yr old daughter. The restaurant is pretty spacious. We came around 1:45 and were seated very quickly. We got the lunch special for 27.99. The food was very good my 3 yr old really loved the steak, japchae, grilled pineapple and the cucumber salad too. I enjoyed all the meats we got, the ramen and soybean stew was cooked very well too. Came here recently for a birthday celebration dinner. I have to say I love that they take reservations, there's a lot of Korean barbecue places that don't, so it's much more convenient than having to wait for an unknown amount of time for a table. The place was not too packed when we went, and we were seated right away. They had a wide variety of different Meats some spicy some not, they even had shrimp and octopus. As far as the meat selection go I would say this was one of the better places I've been to. I'm not seen this many variety of meats included with the standard price option. We tried the brisket, bulgogi, shrimp, and a few others. All were tender and very tasty. One thing we noted was that the shrimp was already peeled, which made it much easier to cook and eat. They did have several options for sides, but I did notice they didn't have some options like cucumber salad, that we are used to seeing on most Korean barbecue menus. The sides were where i would say they were not as good as other places I've been, however they did have plenty that were good. My favorite was the fried dumplings and the ramen, the we're very good. My friends and I came here to celebrate one of the birthdays. It was an AYCE for $36.99. The selection and quality of meats and seafood were great. There was also a good number of side dishes to choose from. Some of the basic bonchon that are typically automatically brought out had to be ordered here, and the selection didn't have things that I like, such as the soy bean sprouts. The rice flour wraps were also thick and stale. Service needs some improvement. We came as a party of 7 that took up 2 tables. Half of the table got their food quickly while the other half waited for an additional 10 minutes before they even started to take our order! The place is big located in the plaza right off the 15. No wait for lunch on a Sunday. The restaurant was extremely sweltering hot. They had 2 fans, but it wasn't enough. They had 1 door open and it was like eating in a sauna. So uncomfortable. We got the prime (or basic) menu, which was about $45ish. The meats were good and it's a good place. However, the service was run by teenagers or younger people who don't care, don't come as often, and don't listen. Our first server took our order and only half came out and things we didn't order came out too. A Second Lady came and asked us if we needed anything else, and we told her we ordered some other meats but it didn't come out. She retook our orders and then it came out but then never showed up again. Nobody did for a while until near the end. And they never changed our grill, by the end of it was burning up with massive char. We tried to get some attention but nobody care. A guy would walk around and look at the tables but took no action on service. It was weird. Meats are good, but I wouldn't want to come out for barely any service, especially for AYCE. We came to Gangnam KBBQ for a late lunch around 2ish pm on a Saturday, and honestly--it was such a great experience from start to finish. The restaurant was only about 1/4 full, which made the whole vibe super relaxed and enjoyable (no rushing, no waiting). What really stood out was the service--our waitress checked on us consistently, changed the grill promptly, and made sure we always had what we needed. That level of attentiveness is rare at AYCE spots! The meat quality was fresh and well-marinated, and the portions were generous. Everything came out quickly, and you can tell they don't cut corners just because it's all-you-can-eat. And one of the biggest highlights for me--they offer intestines (gopchang/makchang/daechang)! That's honestly pretty rare to find at AYCE KBBQ, and they did a great job with it, very clean. Kangnam Korean BBQ is a great AYCE restaurant in poway that offered great options for anyone looking to CHOW. Pros: offering two menus Premium (the standard menu and Prime (more expensive with an extra 8 options including the premium menu items). My table ordered the prime menu and felt like it was worth its price tag but premium can also get the job done for sure. My favorite items off the prime were the Tiger shrimp (large and tender) and the ribeye (great size and taste). Corn cheese is a must try and we ordered a ton of other items that share into the premium menu. The seating is abundant and there are bathrooms inside. Cons: when I was here, I went right before the dinner rush in a Sunday. Once it got busy, we had to wait a bit in between each order and when we did order, it took a while for our food to come. I would give this place 5 stars if the service was a little bit better although it was during a rush. We stopped in today and after we were seated it took about 10 minutes for the server to come take our order. Then she came out with a few sides while the robot delivered some. After another ~10 minutes of just having banchans, our server came back out with the meats. It seemed like they were in the middle of a shift change. It was hard to get good service and we had to flag someone down after they would make the quickest eye contact. Our server came by a maybe 3-4 times in the first 30 or so minutes and we never saw her again. We finished our first round of meats and banchans and were just waiting for someone to stop by. Finally, the server who had just clocked in got close enough for us to flag him down to place our second order of meats. We felt bad for the guys who just started their shift. I don't know if they're told to leave plates or not pick them up once tables are done with them, but the tables in front of us had stacks of plates next to them because they were never cleared. We even started stacking ours on the empty table next to us just to make some room. We were sat along the wall by ourselves, so it was hard to get their attention while most of the other groups were seated in the middle. The last guy to clock in while we were there actually came to check in on us but by that point we were done after waiting so long. The food was okay, but service today was poor. Very disappointing especially since we were automatically charged 18% for service for a group of 6. read more

My family came here on a weekday for lunch and there was plenty of open seating available (it's very spacious inside). We tried their premium lunch menu (since it was only $29.99 for my parents with senior discount). It seemed like the premium menu had a few more meat and seafood choices. The server was friendly and helpful, and service seemed pretty fast and efficient (they also had robots). The meat quality was very good, our favorites were the beef brisket, thin sliced pork belly, boneless galbi (very tender, I wish you could get more than 2 orders!), spicy squid and top blade steak. I really liked that the beef brisket and beef belly were thinly sliced. We also enjoyed their side dishes like japchae, steamed egg, and green onion salad. This is a popular spot! Best to make reservations or get there early. Good sized restaurant-make sure to wear rubberized shoes because the floor is slick from the years of BBQ. Staff is excellent - yes - they don't serve the traditional role of serving you as much as clean up the mess you leave behind. Cucumber salad, tornado egg, pork, flank, beef, ramen - all very good. A bit in the fatty side for some of the cuts. Very kid friendly too - a lot of strollers - so it will be loud with the occasional toddler 'food fight'. Went here after my friend's graduation. We got their lunch menu which already has lots of meat options what more the other menus that they offer. From all of their banchan, I like their green onion salad, and cucumber salad. I guess a little disappointment is for their volcano pork belly. I thought it'll be on spicier end based on the name but surprisingly it's actually a little sweeter. This disappointment didn't really ruin my experience but hopefully for next time. The service is amazing. Lots of the server are approachable and able to get what we need. It's also unique that they have a robot who serves the meats we ordered. We're a big group so we occupied one full side of the restaurant. We went around lunch time (past noon) so it's not dark so not sure how it's like during the dinner time. We had our reservation for our group of 16 on a Saturday for lunch. Most of our group got their early, but were seated immediately, even though the rest of us were a few minutes late. Our servers were friendly, efficient, and came by often to take multiple orders from our group. We had our choice of meat and unlimited side dishes. Had my first KBBQ experience here about a year ago, and though I've tried about 5 other spots since (BF is a KBBQ fiend), Kangnam is still my #1. Why? It's the sesame balls. I really appreciate that they have this dessert item on the menu (only seen this at Olleh, which used to be this restaurant's name, but is now only the name of the Convoy location). While plowing through endless rounds of meat, I crave salad and eventually something sweet to keep things balanced. Kangnam's got me covered. While other KBBQ spots offer a la carte desserts at an extra cost, Kangnam includes good ole sesame balls as part of the AYCE and that fact combined with the expected high quality, bountiful options of protein on the menu make this my enduring fave SD KBBQ. read more

When arriving, it was not busy and a server told us we didn't have to put our names on the waitlist as we were waiting on one more person for our party - he kindly accommodated us when they arrived even with some parties added to the list. However, when asked which menu we wanted, I let him know that their Instagram was promoting a 27.99 price weekends included. He denied that they have that menu and even said "that is for San Diego, we're Rancho Bernardo". Awkwardly, this is the only Kangnam location so he was confidently misinformed when I wish he would have said "I'm not sure, let me look into this" with a manager. When we got a hold of a manager, he let us know that their social media is handled by 3rd party so he would get to the bottom of this. He honored the 27.99 price for us, but swapped out our menu for the 36.99 premium. Part of me thinks he should have just let us have the better menu with lower price because of the whole fiasco lol but I still appreciate his help. Other things to note is that our fire seemed to burn unevenly, and it took a while to get some of our items so ended up getting duplicates after asking them to check on it. The more I think about this place, I'm torn between 2 and 3 stars.. Parking: no problem. It's huge, plenty of parking shared with other shops. They do offer Yelp waitlist so that's always good to do on the weekends. We were here on Sunday for lunch and it was pretty empty though. We had party of larger group so we were worried, but not a problem. They offer two different menus and we went with the premium one. Which was around $37 for AYCE. We also had the beer and soju (somek) tower, and were able to split between 4 people and everyone got 2 glasses out of that. For side dishes, it was alright. You pretty much had to order one by one, which does eliminate food waste. Kimchi though... it was too fermented. Good for cooking, but not great as a side dish. Meat: quality of it, I do think it wasn't bad for AYCE. However, anything that was marinated, it was super sweet. If that's not your thing, and it shouldn't, order non marinated meat. Service: eh. They were helpful when we were able to get their attention but they had a little attitude that everyone at our table noticed. Also they need the bell for the table would be nice. I came here with my grandparents and my cousin for lunch. They were fairly packed at the time we came (1pm) but we didn't have to wait long before being seated. My grandpa is a regular here so he ordered the meats, I have no clue what meats were ordered. But I really enjoyed the one with the bone, which I believe was marinated galbi. The marinated thin one was also good because it wasn't super fatty and when it cooked it was tender while still having that char. And even if left on the grill for too long it didn't turn into thin jerky, unlike some other meats. We tried the Cucumber Salad which tasted more like a pickle pickling to me. It had onions, what seemed to be mustard seeds, and white vinegar, etc. It had an undertone of garlic which I did not like. But I could appreciate the crunch while it still held the soft marination. We also had about 4-6 Steamed Eggs. My grandparents really enjoyed this. I found it to have a bit of a seafood or chemical taste to it? Something I'm not too sure of, all I can say is that it looked promising--but it wasn't. My cousin said if you let it soak in the Korean Ramen broth it is more tolerable. My cousin ordered 2 Korean Ramen and 2 Soft Tofu Stews. These were classified as sides and they were most definitely the size of what sides would be. They were no bigger than the size of my palm. Just something that I noticed was that the Korean ramen, wasn't even a full package -- maybe 1/4 or 1/2 of one. I personally didn't like the taste of the broth for the ramen as it tasted thin and not flavorful. The ramen however had great bounce and chew to it without tasting soft and over cooked. The Soft Tofu Stew had great kimchi flavor to it. A subtle spice and the soft tofu was delicious. If I were to choose, I'd probably order this again over the other sides. In addition, I chose to order the House Salad. I honestly sound like a hater at the moment-- but this was really bland. The dressing had barely any taste -- if there was sesame oil, you could not taste it. There was no spice either, compared to other places. I added the two sauces they gave us from the silver tray and it made it taste better. I love eating the house salads with the meats. At least this salad wasn't limp and old, it had crunch to it and looked fresh! The workers were really kind and attentive. We had about 3 or so grill changes and they came by every so often to ask if we wanted to order more. My grandpa wanted to order lots of meats, but they said 4 order limit (probably to ensure we can finish it)....as our eyes may be bigger than our tummy! I prefer the waiters to the robots, it feels like everyone stares at you when you stand to grab the food. It's just a bit awkward in my opinion, but my grandpa really enjoys seeing it. Anyways, despite some of the iffy tasting foods I still think it's a great place to come to. The meats were great quality, salad was fresh, and the place wasn't overly loud.
