Honestly, I don't really like to eat chicken. But dang. This place might of converted me to like chicken again. Parking is hectic. It's right in the middle of convoy street AND it's right beside the popular curry restaurant. It does say you have to pay, but we were fine not having to pay for parking as long as you were dining in the same complex. But I don't know if that changed by now or not. Just pay for parking lol Service was good, they were efficient with only few people working. We shared the spicy Dakgalbi with cheese. And some appetizers we shared were fried rice, potato pancakes. Only item that wasn't worth it for me was potato pancakes. It was a little bit greasy for me and it didn't really hit the spot. With the cheese on Dakgalbi, they do put on the show of melting the cheese with the torch, which was fun. Overall, this place worth checking out at least once.

Wanted to try this new restaurant. I haven't had dalgalbi since I was in Korea and this was very similar tasting! It's a very big serving perfect for 3 people. It is VERY pricey however. The price on there is for 1 person but they require minimum order of 2 servings. So it's around $60!!! The couple set is very good value especially for a date night. Overall I think it's worth a try especially for something different than KBBQ. They also cook everything for you as well! Very good service

I was very excited to try this new Dakgalbi spot in Convoy! It's located in the popular restaurant center with Paik's Noodles. Parking is free for the first two hours and then you need to pay. We came on a Sunday for an early 11:30 am lunch and were seated immediately with our party of 6. Service was very friendly, these waitresses were working hard! We ordered the Family set and some sides: potatoe pancake, udon noodles, and fried rice. The food is delicious and they cook everything for you on the grill in the middle of the table. It's hard taxing work and our waitress Emily did a fantastic job and was so friendly and chatted with us throughout the meal. The chicken in the Family set (cooked on the grill) is tender and bursting with flavor. The potatoe pancake side really stood out - it was like a crispy hash brown which was the perfect compliment to the flavor packed chicken. There are a lot of large tables here and a bustling lively atmosphere. It was packed by 12:30 pm on Sunday! Overall would highly recommend giving Hongdae a try!

I had a major hankering for some Dakgalbi while in California for a trip and I was so excited to see that Hongdae Dakgalbi was within a reasonable drive. The store is located in a strip mall with a bunch of different Korean stores so it was a cool place to hang out with friends. The service definitely could have been better. It took a while for us to be seated even though the restaurant only had like 2-3 other tables. Once seated, there were a lot of things that were frustrating as well that I won't mention here. The Dakgalbi itself was tasty. It was frustrating that you had to order at least 2 servings at a minimum and rice was not included nor did they even have lettuce wraps. Overall, I was happy to satisfy my craving but it came at a steep price and some frustration.

A new restaurant just landed in Convoy! Hongdae Dakgalbi specializes in dakgalbi which is a Korean spicy chicken stir fry dish. We got 2 servings (minimum) of the Hongdae Original Dakgalbi to share between two people. It featured diced chicken, cabbage, rice cakes, carrots, onions, and perilla leaves all tossed in a spicy gochujang sauce. They cook it for you right on the table and oooo it was delish! A pretty balanced meal that hit just the right spot. The portion size is generous, so be prepared to take home some leftovers!

This is a Korean Chuncheon-style spicy stir-fried chicken spot on Convoy. Each table is required to order at least two dishes--we were four people and ordered two. The staff cooks everything for you right at the table. The chicken is well-marinated, very flavorful, and tender. It's stir-fried with rice cakes, sweet potatoes, and cabbage in a Korean spicy sauce, and everything soaks up the flavor really well. Adding cheese is a must--the melted cheese wraps around the chicken, giving it a creamy richness that balances out the spice, and the cheese pull is amazing. Side dishes are free and refillable, and we were extremely full by the end. I personally like slightly sweeter flavors, so I thought it was pretty good overall. The other three friends felt it was just average--so take that as a reference!

2 servings of fried rice (it gets stir fried at the end of your meal to soak up the sauce from the chicken)

I came here with a party of 6, and we decided to get the original family set ($135). It came with four servings of original Dakgalbi (stir fried chicken with gochujang sauce), mozzarella, fried rice, steamed egg/soybean paste stew, and a drink. This whole set was really tasty, and reminded me of a restaurant that we ate at when we were in Korea. Everything was perfectly cooked, except that the steamed egg came out burned at the bottom. The fried rice is cooked at the end, and really soaks up all of the sauce from the stir fried chicken. Since we had 6 people, we ordered an additional side of fried rice and an udon. We also got two Hongdae makguksu, cold buckwheat noodles, and they were a perfect contrast to the warm food. We also decided to order a Hongdae Potato Pancake was delicious and crispy. It was unexpectedly tasty. We were all completely stuffed so in hindsight, we could have just ordered the family set, along with one Hongdae makguksu, and the potato pancake. No worries though because due to our over-ordering, we got to eat delicious leftovers! Emily was our waitress, and she worked non stop for all of the tables. There were only two waitresses for Sunday lunch, so they were both really busy taking the orders, as well as stir frying the chicken and fried rice at the table. Honestly, kudos to both of them for being so efficient and working so hard.

Nice to finally havw a dakgalbi place in san diego! The place is really spacious and all around a specialized stove. They specialize in chicken and intense plates. The only bummer in this place is parking is rough. We got there on a friday night around 6 and there wasnt a lot of peole inside. Didn't have to wait that long. The sides had a cool pickles and a lot of kimchi. One of the side dishes was an imitation crab with mayo. We were 6 people and ordered the chicken Dakgalbi soy, for the couple, pork spare rib and the cold buckwheat noodles which was plenty of enough food for everyone. The dishes by far was the cold buckwheat noodles! Its the best I've had an San Diego and will be perfect for summer! The spare ribs were already cooked from the kitchen and tasted better than the chicken imo. I'm so sad I didnt get pictures of the two best dishes!

Pretty great spot to try! Parking is definitely tricky in the area, but we got seated right away. Inside is very spacious with plenty of seating. We ordered the Hongdae Cheese Dakgalbi and really enjoyed it. The servers cook everything for you at the table and let you know when it's ready just made the experience easy and fun. Once it was ready, we basically devoured the whole thing, and it's a very generous portion. Servers were also great, very attentive and friendly throughout the meal. Would definitely come back to try more!

So thankful that this place takes reservations which is very rare for trendy asian restaurants. Food was delicious...service was great...highly recommended!

QUICK TAKE// Sosososo comforting and satisfying with the massive portions! FOOD + SERVICE// As a first timer, I really appreciated the "packages" you could easily choose from. Had to go with the "FRIENDS SET ORIGINAL DAKGALBI" for our group of 5 of us. BUT IT STILL WAS A LOT OF FOOD! Next time I would recommend the couple set. Regardless the fact the sets come with the amazing jiggly STEAMED EGG and a SOJU (at least those were our options), the value was undeniable. They cooked everything for us too ‍. I loved the side sour/cold SOUP that came with the set too?? Don't know what it was called but it was a wonderful contrast to everything. The kicker is when they MAKE YOUR DAKGALBI INTO A FRIED RICE (with CHEESE? yes. x10000). So it really feels like you are getting two main meals with this one order. VIBES// Really nice big space! Tons of vents and circulation which was super nice and has a very modern look. Really cool spot for bigger groups too.

I loved my experience at Hongdae Dakgalbi! I went for an early dinner on a Saturday and was able to find parking and get a table pretty quickly. The service was great and interior was nice and spacious. I got the friends set meal and shared it with 4 people and it was the perfect amount. The steamed egg is a must try and one of the best I've ever eaten! The banchan was tasty and you could tell it was fresh. Everything was delicious! Definitely a must try if you enjoy Korean food and want to try something different.

I came here with a group of friends for the soft opening. The staff were friendly. We ordered the chicken, it takes awhile to cook since it's chicken. Please be patient, it's not fast like kbbq! Our server added cheese which elevated the dish! The sides were delicious so we snacked on that while waiting for the food to cook. I really liked the crab mix side and kimchi. Afterwards we had fried rice which was delicious! Parking here can be tricky since it is in Convoy.

Here we go - so I paid full price for a combo meal, but several of the included items weren't available. They were out of my side dishes, out of rice for tomorrow, and ultimately had no rice at all--yet I was still charged full price. What's frustrating is that two different servers encouraged me to order the combo meal in the first place. I was dining in and also placing a takeout order, but I never received everything that was included in what I purchased. As someone who occasionally does paid collaborations with restaurants, I want to be clear that this was not a collaboration. It was simply a regular customer experience. It's eye-opening to see how some restaurants operate when you're just another paying customer. Experiences like this make you wonder whether the level of service changes when promotions or influencers are involved. Being in "ninja mode" definitely gives you a different perspective. At the end of the day, customers should receive what they're paying for--or be charged accordingly when key items are unavailable. Restaurants need to do better.
