Came here today with girl friends. I saw great reviews about this place on Google 4.5 stars. Must be a lie or these customers are only rating them based on pickup orders. The in person service was not there. We waited a long time between sitting down and getting our menus until they asked if we wanted anything to drink. They completely forgot my one friend ordered general tso so we didn't even bother asking for it after all that time. They misplaced the food in the table and the receipts. Like they couldn't afford to be bothered by identifying which person ordered what. They were Disassociated. Hospitality was not there. Even bathroom door felt grimy. Outdated. I would not go out of my way to visit again. We mostly decided on this place because of good reviews and it was between trips. But we definitely would have made a different decision if we knew they were kind of lame. We weren't even offered refills on our drinks. Ugh. They sure mounted the joy out of me. Sad. Excellent experience! We walked in on a Monday evening to place a takeout order. Friendly people greeted us, and got our food out to us quickly. We ate in our hotel room, and wow - everything was so so good!! Mom got the chicken fried rice, and I got shrimp pad Thai. Everything was perfectly seasoned, nothing was dry or over-cooked, and neither of us could manage to finish it. Also got hot shrimp and sweet potato sushi rolls - divine!!! Now I'm sad to go back home, knowing that I won't get to try everything else they offer. I should add that we both have digestive issues, especially when traveling, and we both felt very good on this food. Thanks, Kanji, for filling up our bellies and our hearts! read more

The place we ordered from and the place the other reviewers dined at must be two different restaurants. I'm perplexed, truly. The sashimi was very small and the sushi was underwhelming. By no means a 'signature roll' or fresh. The Drunken Noodle was flavorless and had no spice. The noodles were over cooked and the beef was inedible. I took one bite and spit it out. The texture and taste is indescribable - I question whether it was actually meat. As you can see in the photos, there is a grey hue. Not pictured, the General Tso's Chicken. Of all the things we ordered, the General Tso's was the only edible meal. Hugely disappointed and over priced. read more

Amazing! One of the top Japanese/Asian restaurants in Central PA! We were so impressed with our meals from Kanji that we got take-out from there the next night also! Fresh, flavorful, and huge portions sum up our visits to Kanji. We were able to sample a variety of menu items during our recent visits: Seaweed salad, Drunken beef noodles, Udon, Walnut shrimp, Kanji fried rice, and crispy Thai chicken. Everything was very well prepared and seasoned perfectly. The fresh portions were enough to eat for two meals. While we didn't order any rolls/sushi on these visits, I saw some being prepared when picking up my order and they looked amazing. Usually when we order from most Asian restaurants shortly after we finish eating the saltiness overwhelms us and takes away from the food, but not at Kanji. Eating food from there two night in a row we did not experience any post meal saltiness and were very pleased about this. We plan to make Kanji a regular stop in our rotation during our temporary stay in Mount Joy! read more

So this is my first time getting food delivered from here. Very prompt delivery through DoorDash, at 8pm tonight. I got the chicken lo mein, veggie fried rice, and crab ragoons. When I first opened the bag I was smelt the most delish smell of the ragoons. They taste good too, but if these had some cream cheese in it the would be 10/10. Without it they're like a 6/10. The lo mein is very tasty and exactly what I was wanting out of this order. My only negative is the fried rice. It had almost no seasoning and tasted only like mushrooms. I know I got veggie lo mein, which I get all the time from places, but I've never had it with no seasoning and overcome with mushroom taste. I would order from here again, but I would avoid the veggie fried rice. read more

Review for take out- we ordered for my in-laws while visiting over the holidays. They were fast to get our order and said it would be ready in 15 and they were right. And the order was perfect. My father in law likes an off menu crunchy roll and they made a crunchy spicy roll since it was over the phone. When they went in to pick it up they immediately recognized my family and made him the special roll (which was the best one-a tempura flash fried roll) and sent us home with the regular spicy roll as well. I had the fire and ice which was really good and not as spicy as you would think with the jalapeño. My husband and I split the Singapore noodles with beef and the spice to it was really nice. I have had some sad bland Singapore noodles in Atlanta. Portions were also huge with the Chinese options. And best of all they use kale for what it was intended-garnish!!! read more

I stopped here while in town visiting my Aunt. It's in a little shopping center with a grocery store and other places. We ate here for lunch one day while we were passing through the area and loved it so much that we got some more to go before we headed out! The bubble tea is one of the best that I've had and comes in a variety of flavors - my favorite being taro, which they had. My husband had the thai iced tea, which was good as well. We shared a kani salad, which was just okay. He liked it, but it just wasn't as spicy as I would have liked it to be and lacked a good crunch or textural element to it. That being said, the miso and shrimp lemongrass soups were five star. We were both still getting over allergy-related sore throats, and the hot soup was actually really good on a warm summer day. The broth was very flavorful and the soup had a good amount of shrimp in it. I wanted to try the Singapore noodles, but considering how hot it was outside, we opted for sushi instead. He got the sushi/sashimi combo for lunch and I got the Iceland roll, which has no rice. It was very flavorful and we both enjoyed the sauce that it came with a lot. We also tried the Scorpion and Dragon Roll. I'm a big fan of eel, and both rolls were extremely fresh and flavorful. I was surprised to find such a high-quality sushi place in Mount Joy, but I'm glad they're around. Hopefully they're in business for many years to come so we can stop back in next time! read more

This place is terrible food quality and quantity for the price. I got fried dumplings that were so gross and small barely any meat inside. Then the crab meat Rangoon that looked so good but there was nothing inside them. (Literally) This was the second time we gave this place a try and will not be going back. The service was off to we were told 15 mins and 30 mins later we finally got our food. The place is small and no one else was there so the food should have been done in 15 mins! Such a shame because we live so close. I did not find the place to welcoming either as it was very dark and just not inviting! read more

This has been our staple Japanese restaurant since moving to the area. I am not a sushi person, but my fiancé and his family all seemed to really like the rolls they got. My first visit to this restaurant, I got the Thai General Tso Chicken. I was slightly disappointed, but it wasn't horrible. I tend to prefer a more soft chicken (think Mojo or Cafe East's chicken dishes), but this chicken was a bit more crunchy and didn't taste as great as other places. Last night, i tried the Sweet and Sour chicken and it was much better. The chicken tastes better and the sweet and sour sauce served with it was delicious. I normally judge by the quality of fried rice, was really disappointed with it, my mom (rest her soul) made the best, had egg, veggies, meat and was sooo good. Kanji's resemble white rice with a bunch of soy sauce - Shane to charge that much for yuk... other food ok, can't speak about the sushi as I didn't order. The pineapple curry, lemongrass and coconut soup were decent. Pad Thai was meh at best. Drunken noodles and sushi were almost inedible. Definitely not authentic Japanese and almost certain Chinese run ie like how Tex Mex isn't really authentic Mexican cuisine...just meant for more exposure. Would not recommend and will prolly stick to Eastern Palace in Lancaster--it's gonna be a 'no' for me, dawg. read more

Best sushi chef EVER! We have dined and enjoyed sushi all over the country and then some, but this is the food that keeps us delighted and coming back! With all their fine attention to flavors, detail and presentation, we recently enjoyed a casual evening at KANJI with soup, Kani salad and our favorites: for me the Kanji Roll and for my husband, Panda roll and Chef's own specialty, the Crocodile which has tuna, salmon, avocado in soy paper topped with yellowtail, jalapeño and black tobiko. If you aren't a sushi fan, no problem. They also have the fried rice, General Tso's Chicken, and a host of other familiar Asian dishes. Can't wait to go again for Honey Walnut Shrimp. Our normal sushi spot is closed during the pandemic so we tried takeout from Kanji. It was amazing and we've found our new Sushi spot! Everything was very fresh and I highly recommend the spicy garlic edamame which is fantastic. We also enjoyed the pan fried udon. My husband and I were visiting from out of town. We love Asian food so we stopped in for dinner. We had the chili garlic edamame for our appetizer and it took the edamame to a whole new level. Very garlic forward, but so good! I had tofu broccoli stir fry and my husband had the string bean stir fry with chicken and both were excellent. These guys have a way with veggies. They were all tender-crisp: perfectly cooked. The sauce was really where it was at though. We wanted to lick the plate. Inconspicuously located in the GIANT shopping plaze, this hidden gem is modest to say the least. The decor is simple and very well appointed. The family that owns this restaurant takes a lot of pride in this place. The restaurant is so clean I wouldn't care if they served the sushi to me from the floor. This family survives from the profitability of this restaurant and this level of care is taken into consideration immensely. The food was great, the sushi was so well made and uniform it would have given solace to the worst case of OCD. This place is tiny, very few seats. The staff was very hospitable. They give you fried chips with a yummy sauce, then things go south. They give you a tofu soup before your meal. I literally taste like how my dog smells when it's time for a bath. You can't un-taste that!! Me and my wife ordered the pad tai, which is our favorite Asian go-to. Not here!
