Dr Lisa needs to listen to people. We asked them to update our dogs' vaccines and brought up a hotspot while there. She goes and gives a steroid for the hotspot and nothing for the vaccines. Called to see if I could get in my cat since her face was swollen. I was able to get her in. Dr. Lisa looked her over and said it looks like an abscess that they can give her an antibiotic shot. I asked Dr. Lisa if she was going to look in my cats mouth. She said I would have to sedate the cat. I said then do it. Her response was, we close in less than an hour, I can't do that today, in a sarcastic voice. My cat was brought in as an emergency, which was clear, and states on their website and all over the building inside. But it was more important for Dr. Lisa to go home on time. I understand when it's closing time, but when you have an emergency, which you claim, then help the animals, That is what you signed up for when you agreed to work at this particular place. Maybe I should have requested the male doctor that was there, he seemed like he was caring. The Dr. Lisa however, was not caring at all, Never called my cat by her name, Didn't listen to me when I said I couldn't get my cat to eat, And when I brought it up again Dr. Lisa said blend her food. didn't care to get to know the cat, had me do just about everything but give her the shot. Our Family Has Been Taking Our Pets To Kankakee Animal Hospital Since The Senior Dr. Murray opened it . we have always received Great Care there. And over the years the Vets may have changed but the Care has Always been Excellent. We had a 12 year old Husky that developed what in the end turned out to be Lung Cancer, Dr. Joe had absolutely no problem advising us to go down to the U of I for further testing and or treatment. Everyone in that Office showed so much care and concern for not just our Sasha but also for us, in the end a Year and a Month later we made the decision to end her suffering, she could no longer Join us for our Daily Walks, she Couldn't Sleep a Solid Night without having to move around to be able to breathe. Usually had good experiences there until today. No one there was wearing masks- not the receptionists, not the doctor, not other customers. Dr got annoyed at my 13 week old puppy for crying when she got her vaccine. She was not treated with care. Also charge $15 for a nail trim. It is free at Bradley. Never again. VERY Poor standard of care. Lacks both skill and knowledge. I took my dog there when she developed a lump on her rear hock. Dr. Joe assured me he was certain the lump was nothing more than a hygroma and he was confident it could be removed with ease. I made an appointment to have the procedure done a few days later. I was quoted a price of $150 and understood that sometimes the final cost changes depending on how the surgery goes. However, when I check-out later that day, the priced ended up being more than double without any additional services or medications being administered. They said the Dr. had a difficult time removing the tumor because of it's placement so the cost was increased. Again, I understand costs change but they shouldn't double when nothing additional had to be done. The worst part being that Dr. Joe's crappy surgical skills left a large amount of the tumor behind and she has to go under again to have more tissue removed. By a qualified surgeon this time. When we arrived for the appointment, I was surprised that our in-take was done by different vet. I had several questions regarding the procedure and would have preferred to consult with the doctor actually doing the surgery but okay, I understood he was probably busy and this was just their process. I requested the tissue be sent for biopsy just to be sure it was clean. When I came to pick up my dog later that day, Dr. Joe was again not present. The vet that provided after care instructions informed me that the tumor presented with characteristics of a mast cell tumor and recommended it be sent out for testing. I was given no information on what a mast cell tumor was nor any insight as to what made Dr. Joe think it was something different than the hygroma he was originally so confident of. I would think that the vet that did the surgery would take a minute or two to speak with the pet owner at some point during the process especially when something more serious is discovered. But I guess that is not the standard of care here. We headed home to wait for the test results. No one called the next day to check on how everything was going. No one called the day after that either. I finally got a call from Dr. Joe almost a week later. He explained that it was, in fact, a grade 2 mast cell tumor. He recommended I make an appointment at the University of Illinois for further testing and stated that steroid treatment are often very helpful in preventing the re-occurrence of this type of tumor. However, he failed to say anything about steroid treatments having a tendency to reduce the integrity of tendons and ligaments, making them a horrible choice of treatment for my dog who has already had 3 knee surgeries. No one ever followed-up with us to see how we were doing or to check if we needed additional information or resources. I would think that would be a standard practice after telling a client their dog has cancer. But don't count on compassion or concern from Kankakee Animal Hospital. I had called the office several times that week to request records be sent to different places as I desperately researched the prognosis and searched for treatment options. Several of the front desk staff were rude and seemed annoyed by my questions. I regret ever taking my dog here. read more
