Will do a short review. Parking lot is a shared lot...dirty and needs some major repairs. You will need to go inside the mall to enter the resturant. The resturant has their own bathrooms so don't worry about using the disgusting mall ones. The resturant is roomy and relatively clean... the table we were at was sticky to the touch though. L The food was not bad, but it was nothing really special. The Calamari appetizer was a bit chewy... rings only. At first I thought it was onion rings. The food was very tasty and authentic. I got Tom Kha Gai soup and massaman chicken curry (since they were out of duck) with a Thai Iced Tea. The thai tea was pretty pricey ($6) compared to what I usually see them for, but the food was excellent and spice level was great (thai hot). The food here is always good. We usually order Pad Thai, Kapow chicken (fried or the original is always tasty) or the Pineapple Fried rice. (Their Thai tea here is also delicious) We love exploring their new menu options as well, which we did on this visit. I had the Ka pow Kai Dow with chicken and my husband had the Cashew Chicken. Both were very good, full of flavor. Kanlaya service whether in house or carry out is always fast and friendly. We visited on a Friday night at 5:30 and were immediately seated and served. The ambiance is very much what you would expect at a Thai restaurant. Though the restaurant could use a little touch up in certain spots, the restaurant appears very clean in the front of house. Give this place a try if you want an authentic Thai experience. (FYI there are no customer bathrooms in the restaurant itself, just down the hall in the shopping plaza. They are absolutely disgusting, so I'd recommend avoiding if at all possible.) read more

My girlfriend had Rama in jacuzzi which is a chicken curry dish with broccoli. She had it served mild and it was seasoned perfectly. I had the masaman curry which is the best Thai dish. I came across this restaurant on Door Dash. I decided to give them a try and ordered the shrimp pad Thai for delivery. I requested that my peanuts be put on the side and no scallions. The cuisine is authentic and delicious. The service is fast, friendly and attentive. And the atmosphere is relaxing and comfortable.

I have to give this place 4-stars by applying my 80/20 rule. 80% of the time it's spot on. 20% of the time the food is meh or the service is meh. The Thai slaw is usually good as an appetizer, as is the papaya salad. If you want it truly Thai spicy, you need to say so. Sometimes they nail it, sometimes you need more spice. The Tom Yum and Tom Kha soups are both good. Usually lots of mushrooms. When they get the Tom Yum just right, it has a perfect level of acid and spice. I prefer both of them with chicken. If you want a vegetarian entrée, get the eggplant Pad Ped. The black beans and fresh basil add great flavor and it usually isn't too sweet (like some dishes). I prefer their drunken noodles over the Pad Thai. The Pad Thai suffers from what I call the Americanization. Too sweet, not spicy enough, not sour enough, and lacking that smoky char you need to get a top notch Pad Thai. Out of their curries, I like the red and the Panang. I think you can get better green curry at other restaurants. Their country style curries (which aren't made with coconut milk) are also good. If you like crispy pork belly, their Kana Moo Krob is good. Sometimes it's a little lacking, but sometimes it's fabulous. For drinks, splurge and get the Thai iced tea or Thai iced coffee. They are both very well balanced. Rich and sweet and strong. read more

This is one of my consistent go-to spots for Thai takeout in the Harrisburg area. Even though I live on the west shore and can find closer places, I find myself ordering from Kanlaya again and again. My wife is a huge fan of the masaman curry. I could quibble with the fact that my Tom Yum soup had only a few shrimp in it or that my pad Thai was leaking all over the inside of the bag, but ultimately the food is always delicious and delivered within a reasonable amount of time. read more

I was in the area for a concert and needed a quick bite. This restaurant is located in a little Asian strip mall. The inside of the mall looks a little sketchy but the restaurant looks great. I ordered a tofu pad thai, chicken pad see ew, and a tom yum soup to split with my sister. First off, the portions were massive that we both had enough for another meal!! The pad thai was decent but overall, not the best I had. I felt that it was lacking that tangy, sour, as well as sweet taste I was craving. The pad see ew was delicious and absolutely hit the spot. So I just happened to be in the Harrisburg area, and I also just happened to be craving Thai food. I found this place and automatically seemed drawn to it. I went during lunch time and was greeted by a very welcoming staff. I ordered Shrimp Pad Thai as my main dish, and a pineapple smoothie that was recommended by the waitress. The smoothie was delicious! It wasn't made with syrup or artificial sweeteners, but actual real pineapple! and it tasted out of this world! It definitely sparked my senses. The Pad thai was so bountiful, I mean they were extremely generous with the portions. The shrimp were huge and juicy, and it was cooked perfectly. So much flavor in each and every bite, I did ask for chili sauce on the side to spice things up! One thing that I'll note is that there aren't many staff during the lunch our, so be patient. I do think they do an amazing job with taking care of their patrons, while still being short-staffed at this hour. Cheers to good eats! read more

I love Thai and I try to visit a Thai restaurant every where I go! I recently relocated to Harrisburg and tried Kanlaya for lunch. The restaurant is very clean and has an inviting atmosphere. Service was very prompt. The complimentary spring roll appetizer (two small rolls) was delicious. I also ordered calamari (something else I try every where I go!) and Drunken Noodles. Both were fantastic. The portions were good and the noodles were spicy, just like I like. Prices were extremely reasonable. $7.95 for lunch (noodles only, calamari was extra). From the time I ordered my food, it only took about 10 minutes or less for them to bring it to me and this was approximately 12 noon on a Tuesday. It wasn't too busy, and I'm not sure why! This is by far the best and the most authentic Thai cuisine place in the US, coast to coast. Some of the food quality is even better than the food I had back in Thailand. It's traditionally decorated and the staffs are super-friendly. Although they don't do deliveries but you can order take-outs too. Came here for Tuesday lunch and there were plenty of seats available in this restaurant tucked away at the corner of Asia Mall. I ordered a large thai tea and drunken noodles with chicken. Drink: Thai Tea came out really quickly and had a great combination of sugar/milk! Tasted great and similar to other places I've had good Thai tea. Food: They gave me two egg rolls with a bit of duck sauce on the house (or they're part of the lunch special, not super sure) but they were fresh off the fryer and crispy. A pleasant surprise! Gross. Gross. Gross. Ordered from this place on Door Dash because it gets great reviews. I can honestly say - I don't get it. First off, let me just say - each of these items was literally priced $3 higher in Door Dash than the restaurant's online menu. I think that's total BS. Now let's get down to the food: I ordered pad Thai, crispy kapow chicken, Tom kha soup with shrimp, and Thai iced tea. Literally the ONLY thing passable was the tea. The pad Thai was dry and tasteless yet they used so much fish sauce the whole dish stank to high Heaven. The chicken was so overfried what little meat was encased in the breading was chewy at best, straight up hard and impossible to eat at worst. The shrimp in the soup was over cooked it was mushy in my mouth. Neither my daughter nor I could eat more than a few bites before we gave up. $60 for two meals, a small bowl of soup and some tea and the only thing we could actually consume was the tea. Another restaurant that charges nearly $20 for breading and barely any meat. The Crispy Ka Pow Chicken is filler food as it gives me the exact satiation of eating a full bag of chips. I felt the same sickness as I did eating a lot of junk food. First time trying panang curry ever so I'm not going to comment on that as I have nothing to compare it to. I had one other dish. Not worth mentioning. Overall, I'd rather spend $60 elsewhere. Pho place across from it is solid and I'll be going there next time I'm shopping for groceries at the asian mall. read more

Really fantastic, authentic Thai food. If you request it, they will bring the traditional condiments (chili powder, chili in fish sauce, etc). I ordered the Wild Curry and it is delightfully, properly spicy - they did not pull punches. (This had 2 chilis on the menu.) Vegetables are fresh and crisp. Service was good, and atmosphere includes nice decorations. Will definitely come back when I am in Harrisburg. read more

A friend of mine, Petcnapaporn, introduced me to this place a few years ago; and I'm glad she did. They have THE best drunken noodles that I have ever tasted. It has the perfect amount of spicy-ness, also. If this place was closer, I'd eat here every day. The only reason that I gave this place a 4 out of 5 stars, is because the pad Thai was just "a touch" sweet. Nothing that some extra sriracha didn't fix though. We stopped on our road trip from smoky mountains to NJ for dinner, the place is inside Asian Mall, so it closes down at 8:30 sharp and hence last seating is at 7:45... we were able to reach there and ordered food promptly and it was prepared fast, but no compromise on taste. I go to Kanlaya for lunch frequently and I always get the same thing because I love it so much. When you order, they bring you 2 little fried egg rolls and a sauce to dip them in. They're awesome. I love their chicken satay. I eat it with the cucumber sauce and ignore the peanut sauce (blasphemy, I know!) because it's a little too coconutty for me. For my entrée I get the drunken noodles with shrimp. The shrimp are huge and fresh. I love how garlicky my noodles are with just enough heat for me to tolerate without breaking into a sweat. (I'm weak, I know.) The restaurant itself was fairly recently redecorated. It's a little dark inside. There are cool wood carvings all over the walls and the place is really clean.
