I've been frequenting Kao Sarn for almost 3 years now and I have to say I have barely been disappointed by the food. They have an amazing catalog of dishes that never fail to satisfy me. The restaurant itself is pretty spacious and they are really good at serving multiple people at once. They're very attentive and always make sure you're ok. I usually come during lunch where you get a complimentary salad and rice. The salad has the best dressing! I usually get either the garlic noodles with steak, whole pompano fish, grilled lamb, lamb shank, or their crispy fried chicken. They're all super good. If you're new, I would suggest the garlic noodles with steak (they're super generous with the meat) Their appetizers are also pretty good too. Like I said, I don't think you can order something from here and be disappointed. Love their service. My only gripe is prices have increased quite a bit over the past years but I guess that is every establishment in the Bay. read more

about a month ago, my hubby and I were blown away by this awesome place (it was our first time here). we were warmly greeted by our servers, Champagne and Imm. Champagne made great recommendations when she told us about the delicious fall-off-the bone tender lamb shank in curry sauce (our very 1st time seeing it at a Thai restaurant). we also ordered the ribeye steak over a bed of garlic noodles. the garlic noodles had a lot of garlic flavor and was perfectly cooked, firm and chewy and the ribeye was very flavorful and delicious. Also, the angel wings were beautifully fried and stuffed with a very delicious and flavorful filling. earlier today was our second time here celebrating my hubby's birthday and we also met the friendly owner, Joe. Champagne was there today as well and she remembered us from a month ago. she told us the grilled lamb is delicious and once again she was spot on. we also ordered the garlic noodles with the ribeye steak and had them add prawns as well. omg-sooo yummy! the prawns were huge and perfectly fried and went very well with the great ribeye. we also tried their crispy pork belly with a basil garlic sauce and that was very tasty too. also, highly recommend the very flavorful curry puff for an appetizer. We washed it all down with their very refreshing and tasty Thai ice tea. Now that we've been here twice, I am thrilled to say that this place is consistent in quality and taste. What a charming area Point Richmond is, and even more so restaurants like Kao Sarn Thai. We're always on the hunt for good Thai food and Kao Sarn brings it. Pro tip: grab a holiday cocktail from the historic Hotel Mac down the street and walk over for a cozy dinner after here. Meeting a friend, we grabbed a table close to the back of the restaurant and enjoyed Thai Teas and a spread of some dishes I've never tried before: Nam Kao Tod Salad, Mango Paradise (curry), Calamari, Pad Woon Sen (noodles with prawn), and of course to round it out, Fried Banana with Coconut Ice Cream. What.a.treat. All dishes were so incredibly flavorful and budget friendly while remaining comforting and truly enjoyable. Ordered take out: - pad see ew - the beef was really tough and overall lacked flavor / bland - honey wings - we asked for the sauce on the side and the wings tasted fine but the sauce tasted like bottled mea ploy. - pumpkin curry - this was then best dish of all. On point over rice. - eggplant with pork - the eggplant was good but the pork also tasted very tough. - trout - this was fried well and tasty. The décor is stylish with charming vintage touches, and I love how thoughtfully the Thai elements are presented throughout the space. I came with my relatives, and every dish we tried was great. The flavors aren't super intensely Thai, but they're well-balanced and very enjoyable. Definitely a place I'd come back to. Service was amazing. The staff were warm, attentive, and incredibly sweet. It happened to be my birthday, and they surprised me by singing and bringing out a crème brûlée -- and it was so good! Their kindness really made my day. We came here for dinner before a masquers musical. The reservation was for 7 and we had an additional guest - the staff graciously accommodated. The restaurant was cozy. We ordered corn fritters as appetizers, pad kee maw, mango curry, pork fried rice, among other dishes. I liked how there were fresh mango pieces in the curry. We also got ginger tea, regular tea, and Thai iced tea. For dessert we also got mango sticky rice. Dinner was delicious. The company lovely as always. This is a cute little spot in PT Richmond. I have come here a few times and have always had a good meal and their portions are fair. They close at 8:30 but still took us in at 8:20, which we really appreciated. One of the reasons we like this place is because they can prepare most items GF. We ordered 2 Thai Iced Teas, Papaya Salad (Laous style) (but I have also gotten the Thai style), Green Curry with Shrimp and String Beans with Shrimp. For dessert we ordered the coconut ice cream and mango sticky rice. In the past I have ordered the Tamarind Prawns, some sort of fried ribs, angle wings, Tom Kha and the Pumpkin Curry. Another day, another craving for good noodle soup! My cousin and I were searching for a homey noodle soup, specifically Lao style Khao Soi. This was the perfect spot that satisfied the craving! The restaurant is super charming and in such a cute area surrounded by other gems (coffee shops, vintage clothing, knick knacks). I think this is a great location with a great selection of traditional and modern Thai dishes. I ordered the Duck Egg Noodle Soup and it was so flavorful that I didn't add any extra sauces or chili! Right when we got our soups we could tell they were flavorful just be the color and aroma. Typical of many thai eateries the menu options are pretty consistent. I can recommend their Roti, Pad Thai, Yello Curry w/ chicken, Chicken Satay, Shrimp Rolls, and Tom Yum Koong Soup. All very tasty and filling. Service is prompt and prices are very reasonable, such that there wouldn't be much of a financial burden to eat here regularly. I've heard positive hype from my coworker, and had to try it. They served angel wings! If you don't know. You are missing out!!! Noodles, meat & veggies stuffed wings with thai chili sauce- heaven!!! They also had lunch specials where you can choose a appetizer or soup special and order an entree. I ordered a beef one, in which I did not particularly enjoy because it was stew meat. I was a bit disappointed, but overall service was on point. The food came fast and it was perfectly. The ambiance is nice location with indoor outdoor seating. My mistake was to just judge this place by the lunch menu. It's a combo-style meal but tbh - the real beauty is in the TRUE normal menu. Yeah the prices are a bit high but it's a supply and demand and Cali thing... I guess. Either way, the sweet and sour fried trout, seafood salad, chicken wings, angel wings, and calamari are go-to orders for me here. Thai COFFEE tea is really good as well. My family and I were so excited to find a Thai restaurant close to our neighborhood. We enjoy Thai food and would usually drive to Oakland to enjoy it but this is definitely a new spot that we have been coming back to. What we have tried on our different visits: Curry puffs: 5/5 stars These curry puffs are delicious! We literally had to order 3 of them because we enjoyed them so much the first time. Roti: 5/5 stars The Roti is like a flat bread that has been fried. It comes with a delicious coconut curry sauce. I really liked it and so did the rest of my family. Duck fried rice: 4/5 stars This is a hit or miss, sadly. I don't mean it in a rude way. It's just that the first time we ordered it, it was soooo good and worth a 5 star rating. However, the two times we ordered it after that, the duck meat was not fresh. It didn't taste like it did the first time we ordered it. I'm not sure why. BBQ Pork: 5/5 stars This BBQ Pork is very flavorful. Chicken wings: 3/5 stars The chicken wings were okay to me but loved by my little sister lol. Thai Iced tea: 5/5 stars OMG!! This deserves more than 5 stars, seriously. I would drink this EVERYDAY, if I could. It is so refreshing. Especially when the day is hot. I look forward to grabbing this anytime I order. I Am Pescatarian and have been for 8 years. I ordered shrimp rolls and after a bite I didn't know what the grey colored meat was so I called and asked if the only meat in their shrimp roll was shrimp. They said no there is also chicken. I am angry, because it clearly does not have chicken on the ingredients list on yelp or their website. Also why was the chicken grey. The service was mid. I placed a phone order then picked it up 10 minutes later. They didn't treat me when I entered. Felt bad for the waiter. The ambiance was AWKWARD in there. This time I got the Thai tee and pad see ew, or drunken noodles. Also say yes when they ask if you want them to bring out the hot sauces. They even cut up jalapeños if you like to add those to every meal, which I LOVE. Tasty, great portion of noodles and I always enjoy chicken with mine. Point Richmond has a nice variety of eateries that serve cuisines like American pub food, Mexican, a deli, Greek, Thai, etc. This was one of my most recent trips and we were able to sit down a party of 9 as soon as it opened. Considering our large group, the service was pretty quick as were able to be in and out within an hour. I tried the Mango Paradise ($19), which has homemade red curry with prawn, calamari, scallop, fish, fresh mango, bell pepper, and sweet basil. The curry was on the sweeter side, but paired well with rice. I actually learned I'm not a fan of having mango stewed in a warm and slightly savory curry. I didn't think the flavors or textures complemented each other too well. The seafood was decent with only a few pieces slightly over cooked. It seems like they have a variety of items on their menu, including lunch specials, so I would be interested in coming back to try something different! read more

Point Richmond is such a quaint enclave in an otherwise nondescript, sprawling East Bay suburb that I spend an inordinate amount of time just making the quick circuit in the commercial center of this neighborhood. I've eaten at El Sol and Masa before, but I was thinking of Asian this time. It was on one of those strolls that I decided to give this nice-looking Thai restaurant a try. I was feeling rather peckish after scaling the hills of Miller Knox Regional Park through the tunnel. Since scaling required some exertion on my part, I decided to justify getting three items for takeout. Don't sit there and judge me, OK? I was pleasantly surprised by the quality as well as the quantity served here. I started with the $9 Fresh Rolls which were particularly savory with ground chicken complementing the prawns in the rice paper encasement along with the expected lettuce, carrot, and vermicelli noodles. One of the best Thai restaurants I've been to in the States. Authentic and creative. Fresh shrimp rolls, mango curry seafood, mixed veggies are all super yummy!! Garlic noodles with ribeye steak is just outstanding, must try! Restaurant is decorated beautifully. Service is excellent! Thai restaurants' food in the States are way too sweet. This is a new find for me, met up with a co-worker from the past & she suggested meeting at the Thai place in Pt. Richmond. It's appears to be a small place, yet extends back a bit. Definitely loud. The service staff is on it, they're moving thru quickly getting folks in & out for their lunch hour. Technically I would add 1/2 a star, but Yelp only allows full stars , so it's 3 . We both ordered the lunch combination, you get to pick 2 items & the meal comes with a small salad. She ordered the crispy shrimp rolls & BBQ pork, overall it look yummy & later I noticed she devoured it. I ordered the veggie spring rolls & yellow curry chicken, it was tasty. Both plates came with rice, the order with pork came with steamed veggies. Overall it was a tasty lunch. I'll be back to see if I can find something that knocks my socks off. Just a reminder parking in Pt. I like the staff and service, and I like the eggplant dish and the ginger chicken (or whatever meat you wish), also the shrimp dishes. The flavors are good. However, I don't like that the meat and chicken are hard and dry (overcooked) in many dishes. Example is in Tom kha gai, but also the stir fried dishes. And I don't like that the fried calamari is not made with young squid so the pieces are big and are also overcooked. The fried calamari they serve is not good. I think with just a little care cooking the proteins this would be a really good place. But I still go there pretty often since it's nearby. read more

Must try's would be the garlic noodles, Tom Yom Soup, Yellow Cury, Pad Thai, and Papaya Salad. The ambiance is classy, ethnic, and the vibe is relaxed. The menu is pricey! But I don't expect any different. Their using high quality ingredients. They offer sit-down inside, and a few tables in front of their business. A couple of restaurants have shuttered permanently, so I am very grateful that our local Thai restaurant is still in business. Their food has always been consistently delicious and I am happy I don't have to make a 15-20 minute drive for some Pad Thai or BBQ pork. Their larb is a favourite of mine. Together with a side of rice makes a perfect sized meal for me. The same goes for their Tom Yum Koong or Tom Kha Kai. The present owner, Joey, is extremely kind. When the restaurant first opened he was a server and we would eat there fairly regularly. He left for few years to run another restaurant out of the area but has been back for some time. His presence really adds to the ambience and he is ready with any recommendations and will answer any questions you may have about the food. COVID protocols are in place. My coworkers and I stopped here after a job in Richmond for lunch. We all got the lunch special and an order of fresh rolls for the table. The lunch special offers an appetizer, main dish, rice, and small salad for $17.50 - a decent deal for this amount of food in the Bay Area. I ordered Tom kha with shrimp and the eggplant entree with tofu. Both were delicious and comparable in flavor and quality to other Thai places I have been to in the Bay - of which most are quite good.
