AWESOME food, nice comfortable place, met the super chef. She was cool. Loved the yellow curry and chicken wings. Amazing flavors.

Pad see ew, crab fried rice, pad Thai, and a yellow chicken curry

Got take out on a weeknight and thoroughly enjoyed the food. Got a pad see ew, crab fried rice, pad Thai, and a yellow chicken curry. Everything has good flavor and I'm sure it would have tasted even better if we ate in since some of the noodles were stuck to each other by the time we got to them. Would be happy to return!

The pad see ew is to die for, and the staff they are the nicest and sweetest! This place is one of the best lao restaurant, love coming here -- my go to spot!

Pad see ew with tofu

Ordered pad kee mao and pad see ew to go. The pad kee mao was the clear winner as it had more flavor. Portion size was large enough for two servings. The pad see ew lacked flavor and had American broccoli instead of Chinese broccoli. The waiter was confused when I ordered the pad see ew to be made vegan and then proceeded to ask me if egg was ok.

Pumpkin curry with a teeny box of rice!

This has always been one of our favorite Thai places and still holds up years after it opened. The larb is my favorite! And the roti is a great appetizer.

Thai Papaya Salad. It was so good, I ended up getting one to go at the end of the night. I asked for Medium spice, it was just enough.

Went in on a weekday, had the place to ourselves for a bit, but several other patrons showed up while we were eating. Food was on point and service was very friendly.

5/5 from me ! Food was really good, it's always a good time every time we come, not too packed all the time but it should be. service is really great as well and it's always clean! They'd definitely be playing the slaps

Good portions were good and all the dishes were very tasty. We had pumpkin curry with tofu, pork pad Thai, rainbow salad and peanut lovers dish and roti appetizer

Ratio of veggies to shrimp is no balance at all. Very sad and disappointing they would sell this.

The food was definitely not up to par. I ordered take out spring rolls and Kao poon. Honestly, the ratio of shrimp and veggies to the roll was unexpected. But the peanut sauce was the BEST thing delivered. It was the only reason for the second Star. The Kao poon I thought would be better but it was tasteless and the soup was not even full in the container.. it was halfway full and very very lack of flavor and soul. I was very disappointed and dissatisfied, with that. I do not recommend the Kai Poon at all. Spring rolls are okay if you don't mind extra veg.

Amazing that we had not tried this spot until very recently when we moved back to the Bay Area. Very quick to seat, great service, and delicious food! Honorable mention is the fact that there is ample parking and the plaza has a reasonably sized parking lot to accommodate its customers. We actually found this spot because we were craving mango with sticky rice and they had some great ratings and pictures on Yelp. Lo and behold we ordered it to-go and were obsessed. We ordered Pad Thai, Barbeque Chicken Plate, Mango with Sticky Rice, Thai Ice Tea. Unsurprisingly their entrees are equally as delicious, large in portions (definitely shareable) and they have ample options of spice seasoning. Probably a new favorite of mines in this immediate area.

Pad See Ew and Yellow Curry

Staying in Richmond, we spotted this Thai restaurant nearby with great reviews. We walked in about 7pm on a Monday and were the only guests inside and it remained that way for the entire meal. We tried the Yellow Curry with chicken along with the Pad See Ew and added beef for an additional $3. The Yellow Curry comes with carrots and potatoes and was requested as Medium. It arrived with about a teaspoon of dry chili flakes on top. I'm guessing I was suppose to stir it into the curry. We decided not to and I'm glad we didn't. It would have been ridiculously spicy. Just an odd way to serve a dish. The worst part was the Chicken that was beyond OVERCOOKED. The Pad See Ew was saucy and served with carrots and broccoli. The noodles were decent along with the broccoli. However, the beef that I paid an extra $3 for was again beyond OVERCOOKED. Although the service was great, the meal was so disappointing and pretty inedible.

I have been coming to this restaurant for the past few years and have enjoyed every single visit! The inside is very beautifully designed and well kept. The inside is quite spacious although it is rarely super busy. The service is absolutely amazing, every time the waiters have all been extremely friendly and very accommodating to guests! The staff is very attentive to needs and over many visits they definitely even begin recognizing you at times. The food has always been really good. The khao poon is my most frequent order and I have never had an issue with it at all it tastes super flavorful and it's filling! I will say that I have had the lao sausage and the lao style papaya salad and while they are decent it wouldn't be my first place to go to for those items. The menu is filled with many different things so there will a definitely be something for satisfaction for a person in every party of guests! The restaurant is in a plaza filled with other small businesses so the parking is actually decent you will always find a spot close by. The area is not the best especially around night time, but that doesn't take away from the good quality food you'd be getting!

Chicken Pad Thai

Best Pad Thai in the Bay Area. Pad Thai has always been my litmus test for how good a Thai restaurant is. I tell you, Maya Thai has the best texture, flavor, and sauce consistency and flavor. I have tried some other noodles, but their Pad Thai reigns supreme for me. Their tray of chili condiments is also the best. Their chili oil is so fragrant and the fried shallots so aromatic. The chilis and lime in fish sauce is also very good. Their service is great. Friendly and homey. Ample parking. The best Thai spot in the area, and definitely the best Pad Thai I've had yet.

Hidden gem in El Sobrante that serves up some of the best Laotian and Thai food in the Bay Area…read more Every time we visit, must-orders are the Nam Khao (crispy rice ball salad with fermented pork sausage and fresh herbs) and Ka Soy (Laotian noodle soup). If you see Nam Khao on the menu of a Laotian/Thai restaurant, that means they know what they are doing just because it's so labor-intensive to make a salad(!) and the fermented pork has to be damn-near perfect for this salad to really shine and round out the fresh herbs and seasonings which includes lime juice, vinegar, and fish sauce. Ka Soy (the noodle soup) is a comfort food enjoyed in Southeast Asia. It's not the Thai-style where it's a curry broth and the noodles are fried, so let's not get it mixed up. Instead, it's bone broth that been simmered for hours and it's somewhat a lighter broth. The noodles are wide rice noodles in a big bowl of hot broth served with a mixture of ground pork cooked down with tomatoes along with fresh bean sprouts, scallions, and cilantro - simply a divine noodle soup that a must-try. It's not overly complex in terms of flavor, but it's a bowl of good ol' noodle soup that is comforting and great-tasting. If you haven't tried Laotian food, give Sue's Kitchen a try. try some new flavors and you may just become a regular (if you aren't already). The owners are friendly too! It's a husband-and-wife team!

We narrowed it down to three and chose Lao Garden because of the positive reviews and authentic menu items. Lao Garden did NOT disappoint!! We visited during Memorial Day for lunch. PARKING There's a sign outside, but I missed it. Parking is available at the back of the restaurant as well as street parking. SERVICE Since it was a week day for lunch and it was a holiday, the restaurant wasn't at capacity. There was one server who was attentive and wonderful! We met the owner and head chef, Kanlaya, who was very friendly. I could see her passion for Lao cuisine and her desire for guests to enjoy it. FOOD We were pretty excited so ordered quite a few items to try -- we definitely had leftovers. Everything was DELISH. * Pandan Green Tea -- delicious! * SAI QUA (Lao sausage) -- made fresh. Meaty and herbaceous. It was grilled and charred. Yum! * THU LITH'S FAMOUS SAIKOO --My friend was waiting to try this, which was the main reason we chose Lao Garden. It was excellent. Under "Wraps," these are steamed tapioca balls filled with pork. The tapioca balls were fresh, soft, and chewy, while the pork filling was well-seasoned and balanced. It was served with lettuce, mint, and parsley. * MOK PA -- Steamed catfish with lemongrass, dill, onions, and wrapped in banana leaves. A favorite of mine! Light and aromatic. It was served with steamed veggie medley and jeow mak len (tomato dipping sauce with various spices). * EGGPLANT PRAWNS -- Seasoned and tasty. Eggplant and prawns cooked to perfection. Since it was lunch, there was a special for this entree. * FRIED CHICKEN WINGS w/ PAPAYA SALAD -- This was also a lunch special served with sticky rice. We were chatting with the owner, and she was kind enough to change it to Lao style, which is more pungent with the umami from fermented fish sauce. The wings were crispy, and the papaya salad was well-balanced and tasty. Discovering Lao Garden was a fantastic experience, and we truly enjoyed their delicious dishes. I can't wait to return and share this hidden gem with friends and family so they can enjoy it too.

3.5 STARS I'm boring…read moreso where did I get my spice? SE AZN food! It's hard to find a Laotian resto that isn't clumped in with Thai and/or Khmer cuisine so Lao Garden piqued my interest. Walk-in only. But if you have a party of 5+, rezzies are accepted. Back patio is dog-friendly. F O O D * Nam Khao: Crispy Rice w/ fermented pork sausage, peanuts, lettuce, herbs ($25): https://tinyurl.com/yn97yper Many rave reviews on socials saying this is the best nam khao and worth the price. The crunchy, chewy texture was on-point and they were generous with the naem, fermented pork sausage....but it was oddly bland, like they forgot to dress it with the spicy, punchy acidic dressing. * Thu Lith's Famous Saikoo: Steamed tapioca balls w/ ground pork, sweet radishes, shallots ($25): https://tinyurl.com/5n8xnhsz Saikoo is hard to find so this was a must order on our visit. The saikoo had a nice bouncy QQ chew and is filled with a ground pork mixture. Flavor leaned sweet. If you like Viet bánh bột lọc, this will be your jam. * Mok Pa: Steamed catfish w/ lemongrass, green onions, dill, steamed vegetables, jeow mak len ($22): https://tinyurl.com/yxrvnxjb The catfish was flaky and moist but the flavor was one note: earthy. I wished they used more fish sauce and aromatics (i.e. lemongrass and galangal) for citrusy umami. Served with steamed veggies with a traditional Laotian spicy roasted tomato dip that was not spicy at all. * Grilled Rack of Lamb (3 pc-$32): https://tinyurl.com/57hstz93 - Requested medium rare A touch overcooked but the marbled lamb was forgiving, it was still very tender with a great smoky char from the grill. Served with nam jim jaew that felt diluted as it was missing the bold spicy, tangy, salty, and slightly sweet flavors. * Sticky Rice ($8) Aside from the incredibly steep price for a single serving, they brought this with the apps so by the time our entrees arrived, the sticky rice had cooled and hardened. S E R V I C E Friendly and earnest. We had to flag them down for things but understandable since we were the only ones in the patio. We arrived for an early dinner and were the only customers at the time so it was surprising food service was slow with entrees taking 45+ minutes. A M B I A N C E Spacious and vibrant with faux greenery and flower walls. The back patio is partially covered. P A R K I N G They have a private parking lot in back but can easily be missed; take a right after April Rose Provisions. Overall, I had high hopes for Lao Garden but the flavors were far too mild for my personal taste. When I have Laotian food, I want to be punched in the face with funk, citrus/acid, and heat. Off day?
