I'm always down for Thai food, so we have it a try. Prawn Roll: These were pretty crispy and delicious. Not a huge fan of prawns, but they had the fried texture I expected. The sauce was really good and it was not too oily. Not a bad starter. Basil Wontons: These were fries really nicely and the sauce was delicious as well. Not too oily either and had a nice amount of filling with chicken and basil. Spicy Basil Chicken: My go to for Thai food is Basil Chicken. I got it medium spicy and it was the right amount of spice for me. There was ample amount of the chicken and the basil and the peppers. The sauce was not overwhelming or salty. We stopped by on a weekday evening and we got seated very quickly. This restaurant is a mom and pop and the service definitely indicates that - they were extremely friendly and helpful with the menu since it was our first time. We ordered the papaya salad, pad thai, yellow curry, and fried chili fish. All the food was tasty and flavorful. The pad Thai was a deeper color than I was familiar with, but it still tasted sweet like the usual dish. I do find the price to be higher compared to other spots in the Bay which is a bit cheaper and more authentic although I think that's just the outcome of being in a small town. read more

I've been a loyal customer here for years, mostly for take-out. Tonight, I brought a friend to show how amazing small local restaurants can be but what happened instead was disappointing. As soon as I walked in, the hostess said, "You know this isn't an Indian restaurant, right?" A strange and unnecessary comment to make to any guest. Then I ordered a glass of red wine from the menu. She told me they don't serve wine by the glass because "the bottle might go to waste." Yet the menu clearly lists it at $10 a glass and on every table, they have listed wine by glass. I offered to bring my own bottle from my car and pay corkage. First she quoted $20, then after refusing to call the manager and speaking with the kitchen in another language, she "revised" it to $15. I agreed. But as I got up ti go out to get my wine bottle and mentioned that I would be sharing this experience in my review, she looked at me and said, "You can go somewhere else to eat." That was the moment the entire evening fell apart. I was here to celebrate a friend's birthday, support a local business, and enjoy a meal I've always loved but instead, I was met with attitude, dismissiveness, and comments that felt personally targeted. The food has always been great. But it's hard to return to a place where the hospitality makes you feel unwelcome for no reason. read more

The food was definitely not up to par. I ordered take out spring rolls and Kao poon. Honestly, the ratio of shrimp and veggies to the roll was unexpected. But the peanut sauce was the BEST thing delivered. It was the only reason for the second Star. The Kao poon I thought would be better but it was tasteless and the soup was not even full in the container.. it was halfway full and very very lack of flavor and soul. Amazing that we had not tried this spot until very recently when we moved back to the Bay Area. Very quick to seat, great service, and delicious food! Honorable mention is the fact that there is ample parking and the plaza has a reasonably sized parking lot to accommodate its customers. We actually found this spot because we were craving mango with sticky rice and they had some great ratings and pictures on Yelp. Lo and behold we ordered it to-go and were obsessed. Staying in Richmond, we spotted this Thai restaurant nearby with great reviews. We walked in about 7pm on a Monday and were the only guests inside and it remained that way for the entire meal. We tried the Yellow Curry with chicken along with the Pad See Ew and added beef for an additional $3. The Yellow Curry comes with carrots and potatoes and was requested as Medium. It arrived with about a teaspoon of dry chili flakes on top. I'm guessing I was suppose to stir it into the curry. We decided not to and I'm glad we didn't. It would have been ridiculously spicy. Just an odd way to serve a dish. The worst part was the Chicken that was beyond OVERCOOKED. The Pad See Ew was saucy and served with carrots and broccoli. The noodles were decent along with the broccoli. However, the beef that I paid an extra $3 for was again beyond OVERCOOKED. I have been coming to this restaurant for the past few years and have enjoyed every single visit! The inside is very beautifully designed and well kept. The inside is quite spacious although it is rarely super busy. The service is absolutely amazing, every time the waiters have all been extremely friendly and very accommodating to guests! The staff is very attentive to needs and over many visits they definitely even begin recognizing you at times. The food has always been really good. The khao poon is my most frequent order and I have never had an issue with it at all it tastes super flavorful and it's filling! I will say that I have had the lao sausage and the lao style papaya salad and while they are decent it wouldn't be my first place to go to for those items. The menu is filled with many different things so there will a definitely be something for satisfaction for a person in every party of guests! The restaurant is in a plaza filled with other small businesses so the parking is actually decent you will always find a spot close by. Best Pad Thai in the Bay Area. Pad Thai has always been my litmus test for how good a Thai restaurant is. I tell you, Maya Thai has the best texture, flavor, and sauce consistency and flavor. I have tried some other noodles, but their Pad Thai reigns supreme for me. Their tray of chili condiments is also the best. Their chili oil is so fragrant and the fried shallots so aromatic. I have a deep affection for this restaurant.The staff is exceptionally friendly and hospitable, and the background music creates a perfect ambiance for enjoying delicious Thai/Lao comfort food. On a rainy evening, my husband and I visited and indulged in the Khao poon and chicken pad Thai. The service is exceptional each time - the ladies upfront I believe are cousins? Oh btw, they sing with the background music - such nice voices - an added bonus. They always check on you making sure you are taken care of and you are enjoying yourself, comfortable while enjoying their scrumptious dishes. I would say, it's a tad salty but that's because my palate is bland coming from a family with heart and kidney problems. The service is always prompt and friendly. I have had several different dishes here, it would be hard for me to to review them all now that I have settled on my go-to dish; the Spicy Duck Curry (Gaeng Phet Ped Yaang). It comes to the table in a large container heater by a flame. The bowl is filled with roast duck, pineapple, bell peppers, tomatoes, and basil leaves in red curry. It comes with a side of jasmine rice. The bowl is enough for two people. This restaurant is a favorite with the lunch meet-up group I belong to. Maya Thai Laos has a huge parking lot and such a cute space inside! During this pandemic they had to raise the prices slightly but the food is still delicious and large portions. My sibling and I enjoyed a meal inside for the first time together since Covid-19 and the pandemic regulations. This restaurant still made us feel safe as they were all wearing masks, spaced the seating well, and had hand sanitizer. It was really really nice to feel comfortable in a restaurant. There are many many choices for you to pick from with a range in curries, pan fried noodles, and bbq. Their menu also had a variety in pricing to fit your needs. It wasn't super busy with dine-in customers so we had a very easy time connecting and eating good food. The only bummer was that we arrived at the same time that the work out studio next door was grooving. It wasn't too loud but it was a bit of a distraction. Nothing they can do about it and still worth the stop to get tasty tasty noms! The pineapple fried rice was very tasty and such a treat. The pad see ew was a favorite, almost wherever I go, and had fresh veggies. The red curry was flavorful but the eggplant was a bit too mushy and overcooked.
