One of the best Thai restaurants hands and knees down. This place consistently delivers some of the best Thai food around, and it never disappoints. Every single dish is amazing, and even though I've developed my go-to staples, there's always something new worth trying. Favorites include the sum woo sen (clear bean thread noodle salad) and the stir-fried eggplant, but honestly, there are so many standout dishes that it's hard to narrow it down. Beyond the food, what really makes this restaurant special is the people behind it. The owner is incredibly friendly, humble, and clearly works nonstop day and night to make sure everything is just right. His wife, the chef, consistently turns out flavorful, thoughtful dishes that you can tell are made with care and pride. They're also very clean and did I say friendly? They make you feel like family or a friend. I also work for a company that regularly orders from here, and we're far from the only ones. Large companies like Chevron, Bio-Rad, Kaiser, and many others frequently order as well. Even more impressive, although the restaurant is located in Richmond, companies in Daly City and other cities 20+ miles away go out of their way to order from here. That alone says a lot. This is a small, lovely Thai restaurant that is truly doing its thing by earning loyal customers, making waves well beyond its neighborhood, and absolutely deserving of the praise it gets. Good food and excellent customer service. We loved the flavorful spicy wings appetizer and couldn't get enough of the sauce it was tossed in. We also enjoyed the Eggplant with chicken, Praram Long with chicken, and the Crab Fried Rice. It was nice that each dish came with a little side salad on each plate. Sala thai is a local favorite! They always have good business. Their food is on the sweeter side, but their prices are very reasonable and the food portion is always plentiful. Service is also friendly and they actually have a large menu too! Parking can be tricky because there is a dispensary next door and it is located inside a small shopping strip with Arco gas station too, so the area is always always very busy. This review is long overdue. The Pad see ew was really good and the noodles had some really nice sear on it. Another aspect I liked about is was the very thin scrambled eggs which added a nice texture. Layout, it has a good balance of the salty and the sweet flavour profile. What we got: Bbq Pork Crispy Shrimp Pad see ew - sub onions and mushrooms (no cabbage or broccoli) Bbq Salmon (forgot the pic of this) As usual- everything was fabulous! We have never had a bad meal here. It is delicious every time! The owner is friendly and funny! And the space is very welcoming! Everything is good here, as far as what we have tasted. Had lunch Christmas Eve and it was very satisfying and delicious. Service is great, a little pricey but overall it's worth it. Can't get enough of the fresh tofu rolls Mmmm and the eggplant tofu over rice. Even the rice is made to perfection. I've been coming here a few days a week and have enjoyed these two dishes so much. They are officially my go-to! I have had many delicious Thai food all over the west coast and east coast, but would consider Sala one of my favorites. I can close my eyes and feel like I was in Thailand again. Sala is perfection. This is a family owned business and ran very well. My girlfriend and I went last Saturday to try the mango sticky rice and it took them nearly 30 minutes to make it and the rice was undercooked. The coconut cream sauce was good but paired with hard rice, bland mango, and a near 30 minute wait time, definitely not worth it. read more

I'm a big fan of different foods and cultures, me being a POC, which is why I was trying to get a part time job here at Sala Thai. I am an indigenous male with long hair in which I have my hair up in braids/cornrows cause of my hair textures (curly and puffy and just got my hair done 2 days prior). I went in today to follow up on a position there. He was really short and rude. He suggested I go apply at Starbucks and to "fix my hair" and I told him, "there is nothing wrong with my hair" and he insisted there was something wrong with my hair. I felt belittled and embarrassed while there were other customers around in the waiting to be seated area where we were standing. I think with everything going on in the world this should be the last place I would ever come across something as racist as this. To the owner, I hope you don't talk or treat your employees like this when no customers are looking or around. I hope you treat your customers with respect as much as you should treat your employees or people coming in to apply. Learn and grow. read more

This sweet little Thai restaurant is women owned by Tip with cute decor--I love the big umbrellas on the ceiling--and delicious food with lamb on the menu which is rather special for a Thai restaurant. I was told Tip does most of the cooking herself too! And she was super friendly and playful in character. We ordered the lamb satay skewers with peanut sauce because I've never even seen it on a menu. They were juicy and perfectly cooked and paired deliciously with the peanut sauce. Highly recommended! We also got the "Thai Spicy Salad" with grilled pork, which I know is also called "Waterfall Salad" at other restaurants. It's more typically made with grilled beef but for whatever reason I'm not a big fan of beef. Anyway the pork was so sweet and juicy! It's traditional for this salad to retain some of the pork fat on the meat for it to caramelize when it's grilled. Oh boy, it was so delicious! Sweet, sour, salty and a little spicy and was served with a healthy serving of mixed greens which we happily ate with it along with sticky rice. I'm sorry I didn't capture a photo of it. It looked so beautiful and tasty! I asked for chilis in fish sauce to make it spicier and they brought over the collection of condiments to choose from: chilis in fish sauce with garlic, ground roasted dry red chili, red chili hot sauce, and pickled green chilis in vinegar. All great options. Then for dessert we ordered their banana fritters with ice cream. Oh yes please! It was a generous 2 scoop portion of ice cream and 4 big pieces of fried banana. Superb! I was excited to see they have Thai bbq on the menu but with only 2 of us eating, I can only try 2 dishes each visit. They have an extensive menu with lots of seafood as well. We ordered the chicken satay, the roti and curry dip, the fresh tofu rolls, and chicken larb salad. Everything was delicious. I asked for lettuce cups for us to eat the salad with. I ordered Tom Ka Soup, Fresh Tofu Rolls, and Crispy Shrimp Rolls after a long long long day. I was hungry!, I wanted to treat myself and my throat was hurting again so soup was a must.. Shrimp rolls pretty good, nice crunch even after a few minutes in the car on the drive home. Tofu fresh rolls - EXCELLENT- worthy of my treat list when in Richmond. Light and crunchy. Now, I didn't care for the peanut sauce that it came with however the twangy sweetish sauce was divine with the rolls. Now, the soup, toooooo sweet for me. Full of goodies though as I asked for seafood for protein and they weren't stingy with the shrimp, squid, mussels; huge portions. I just wish that the lemongrass came through a little more... some essence of spice. I have eaten in before, years ago, and remember loving the food. Let me tell you it was super crispy and delicious!!! We were really thinking about getting seconds but I was like no let's save our appetite for the food, very tempting! My bf decided to get number 40 (spicy basil trout), he loves his spices! I finally decided on number 38 (spicy tilapia) because I love seafood! Our food didn't take long to come out which was a good thing I was hungry! To be honest I was not a fan of my food it did not taste right I loved the rice and everything except the fish. So I just picked at my food and eating what was appetizing to me. As for my bf his food was soooo delicious and super spicy just the way he likes it! My be the reason why he loves me sooo much lol! The pad thai is SO good here and so is the pineapple fried rice. The inside of the restaurant isn't that nice and is very crowded. I will say that this is not fully Halal and people need to be careful. I think you have to call before hand. Also even though I eat halal, I found meat in my food, and the waiter told me that the meat is not Halal, they did change it for me though and it just took a very long time. This Sala Thai location is no relation to the others but still solid. It's in Richmond but took a little over 20 minutes without traffic. They have halal meat upon request. The space is pretty spacious for a group of friends to come enjoy some delicious Thai food. I will say it's a bit over priced but I'd come back to try some more items on their menu. read more

From the minute I hit the door I was treated like a long lost customer. It was fun walking in here and having so much attention. I look around at the lavish decorations and it's none of that kitchy Asian brass and plastic. This place was pretty elegant. I would recommend it as a romantic destination in the evening. There is a sweet little bar nook that looks like it's out in the jungle somewhere with bamboo on and hanging over the top of 3 chairs small and fun to be a great place to just come and have a beer. My meal time today is all messed up from Aaron's and appointments. So I thought I would come in here and try this wonderful food again I have not been here in years.And I'd like to tell you that I think it's better than I remembered it and that was pretty good. I'm eating the Prik king. Wonderful combination of flavors rolling around my mouth I had to chip one with the chicken and it's so delicious the sauce as perfection and I opted not to get the rice and got the wide noodles instead and that made it perfect. Oh I but. Oh I am definitely going to come back and find out what they make I may even leave with a couple items to take home. The owner of 14 years of Morocco was so nice and such a gracious host and introducing me to the chef (and wfe) who has her finger on every part of the food that leaves that kitchen and it's amazing wonderful culinary experience in here if you want to have your taste buds take a vacation and go to Issan the northern boarder in Thailand.
