When I called he was the guy who answered the phone around 2 months ago when I booked a tattoo and stated confidently he could handle what I was looking for. 2. I sent him a design that it took me a year to pick out, little did I know, it was a more common tattoo than I thought it to be (not my intention but it was meaningful to me). Jon made it up in his own style so that it does look different and unique to me. He also took my suggestions about how I wanted to change it for me. 3. The customer service I received was unrivaled. While most of the store is booked out quite a few weeks, he was easy to stay in touch with if I had an idea about how to change the design and never left me hanging for more than a day during the wait. Jon took my ideas, incorporated some of his own and I couldn't be happier. It was affordable, the customer service was awesome, the end result was above expectations. Lastly, if you are reticent about getting your first tattoo, ask for Jon, not only was he a great frigging dude, but he's fine with taking a break a few times an hour so you can both stretch out and feel comfortable. Not my first tattoo, but my first 5 star experience and a local experience with local artists. I will be back if I need something again in the future. Lastly, the shop is clean, everyone followed covid protocols, you never feel unsafe or at risk there. This is an A+ operation filled with A+ artists and workers. First - the space is so comfy. The waiting room is cozy and the room where you actually get the tattoo done had everything you could need, homey touches but still extremely clean. There was soft TV playing in the background that you can easily ignore OR pay attention. Second - the art was just amazing. My friend and I had a bizarre experience here…read more We called ahead to confirm they did inner lip tattoos--they said yes and booked us for a week later. We arrived and filled out our forms. We were the only people in the waiting area and there were two employees sitting behind the counter. Eventually, a man (presumably our artist) came out, sat behind the counter, started eating pizza, and didn't acknowledge us. Without looking up, he said, "I'll take your money, but you're gonna be disappointed." At first we were confused and weren't even sure if he was talking to us. When we said we still wanted to try, he basically said we'd be stupid to get them--while repeating that he'd still happily take our money. He never introduced himself, never made eye contact, and seemed irritated by our presence . I have 21 tattoos and I really appreciate when an artist gives me advice and honestly, I appreciate that he was trying to warn us about wasting our money, but his hostility and lack of respect was a deal breaker. We ended up walking out because I didn't feel comfortable letting him tattoo us. All of this could have been avoided if they had simply told us they didn't want to do inner lip tattoos instead of letting us book. I wouldn't recommend going here unless your want to be ridiculed.

My friend and I arrived early because Federal Hill only accepts reservations in person. When I told the artist that I wanted a tattoo on my foot, he advised against it. He explained that the skin on your foot is very delicate and foot tattoos don't hold up over time. I guess a lot of people come in and ask for Nicole Richie's famous cross tattoo on her foot. The artist claimed that it was photographed when she first got it and she constantly has to have it re-inked. Federal Hill has a lifetime guarantee on their ink and will re-ink your tattoo for free if it fades. However, that does not apply to foot tattoos. I was a nervous to get my tattoo in the first place and now I was second guessing going through with it. The artist told me he would do the tattoo if I really wanted him to, but he would prefer it if I got it somewhere else on my body. He also said he understood if I didn't want to get it at all, he just wanted to tell me the truth. My friend and I were impressed with his integrity and decided to go inside and think things over. The studio was clean, professional and inviting. Right away, I decided I wanted the stars on my hip. I had the artist draw stars, first on paper, then on my hip with a Sharpie. He had in mind a big tattoo with two inch stars but that wasn't what I wanted at all. I'm petite and wanted smaller stars and for the tattoo to only show if I was wearing a bikini. I made him wipe his drawing off, redraw it again and again, then I would run half dressed to the mirror to inspect if I liked the design. He was extraordinarily patient with me and made sure the final drawing was exactly what I wanted. Finally, we agreed on the design and size of the tattoo. I had ten stars drawn in an arch, the largest resting on my hip bone. He also suggested dots in between which looked fantastic. The actual tattoo only took eleven minutes and didn't really hurt. The artist was professional, had a great sense of humor and now I have an amazing tattoo!

Since her tattoo was considerably larger than mine and we wanted to get them together, we had to make our appointment for Sunday at 5pm. I went in knowing exactly what I wanted - a very simple word in a very simple font just below my right clavicle. At first I thought I wanted all lowercase letters, and when Mike drew it up, we both agreed that it looked kinda silly - I was glad he felt comfortable sharing his opinion. He did a great job with executing the fine lines of the lettering. The tattoo was finished in about 5 minutes and although their minimum charge is $60, Mike let me have it for $50 (the price of the deposit). My friend got her state flag tattooed on the side of her hip - about 3x4 inches, in color. It looks INCREDIBLE. Furthermore, it's the Maryland flag, a really, really complicated design - I was so impressed. My only complaint is the music... I friggin hate hardcore. Definitely going back for my next tattoo!

We were able to learn how to draw with an actual needle on fake skin, didn't do too well but the experience was great. There are many different services they go by the hour, tap out sessions, and each artist works individually. The vibe was great subtle and full of positivity. I would love to experience something like this again.
