They let us know he…read moregot Lyme disease and elevated kidney levels so they prescribed a bunch of medication and kidney friendly food. We kept calling to let them know he wasn't eating and they kept charging us to get him other food and keep doing the medications. In short, he passed away not even two weeks later. When my partner went to return the kidney food (as they told us to do), someone at the front told him "people don't realize how serious Lyme disease is", as if we weren't taking the necessary steps to prevent this. He told them he wished the vet informed us enough of the lethality and risks of Lyme disease. The emergency vet ER nearby treated my dog more fairly than this vet did.

I called there as they were there with the cat and said I'd pay the balance but I was away and couldn't pay right this second. I had been there before with multiple animals, as a matter of fact I was charged over $400 to drain my dogs ear mass and was quoted less. They said my family is not welcome there anymore when I questioned their ethics. BE CAREFUL BECAUSE WHAT THEY QUOTE AND WHAT THEY CHARGE ARE TWO DIFFERENT THINGS! PLUS THEIR WAY OF DOING BUSINESS IS REALLY WRONG! There was no problem in making the payment...they just would allow me the opportunity to finish up what I was doing at work to get it done. Bottom line I paid it online $313.00 and will now seek out who holds their license or whatever agency I can contact regarding their business practices. They prey on the hearts of people who love their pets. FULL DISCLOSURE AT IT'S WORST FOLKS! BE CAREFUL!!!!!!!!!!!

I had one of the most upsetting veterinary experiences of my life at this practice…read more The male vet (Dr Femino I believe) entered the room abruptly, which immediately made my dog (who is naturally nervous) start barking and cower next to me. Instead of taking a moment to let her settle or approaching calmly, he immediately said, "I'm getting a muzzle." I explained that she has never worn a muzzle before and has never bitten anyone -- she just barks when she's anxious. I offered to put the muzzle on her myself since she trusts me. He refused and said he had to do it. When he returned with the muzzle, my dog became even more frightened and hid under my chair. I again said she would likely allow me to put it on since she trusts me. Even the vet assistant gently suggested that I try putting it on her, and he sharply responded "no" to her as well -- with no explanation. I expressed that I wasn't comfortable with him forcing it on her or going under the chair to wrestle her into it. His response was that I would need to reschedule. When I tried to clarify, he stood there staring at me in silence. I finally said, "Well, I guess I'll reschedule then," and he responded with "cool" and walked out of the room. The entire interaction felt dismissive, condescending, and unnecessarily aggressive. I understand that safety is important, but there was zero attempt at collaboration, communication, or compassion -- not toward me, my dog, or even his own assistant. I had previously seen a female vet at this practice who handled my nervous dog calmly and professionally without issue, so this experience was shocking. I left in tears. No pet owner should feel dismissed when advocating for their scared animal. I will not be returning.

George's nails had grown so long they were beginning to cut into his pads--something no pet owner ever wants to see. To make matters more difficult, George is absolutely terrified of having his nails cut. It's always been a stressful experience for him. But when I brought him to Pet ER, they immediately put us at ease. They were more than happy to help, took him in right away without an appointment, and had everything done in less than two minutes. To my amazement, George didn't make a single peep--he stood calmly and allowed them to do exactly what they needed to. They even told me he was perfect! I was truly blown away. From the moment we walked in, the level of compassion, professionalism, and genuine care we received was beyond anything I've experienced in a long time. I've been part of the Setauket community for 58 years and have owned and cared for many animals over my lifetime--including horses, goats, donkeys, dogs, and cats. Having worked with countless veterinarians in this area and beyond, I can say with complete confidence that Dr. Azagrar and the entire team at Pet ER stand out in every way. They are not only highly knowledgeable and skilled, but truly compassionate. They take the time to care about you as a person and treat your pet like a valued member of your family--not just another appointment. George was treated like royalty. The staff is kind, attentive, and incredibly respectful. You can feel that they genuinely love what they do, and that makes all the difference. Pet ER has become such an important part of this community. It's exactly what Setauket needed--a place where our pets are treated with the dignity, care, and compassion they deserve. I am overwhelmingly grateful that they chose to establish themselves here and serve our community. If your pet ever needs care, this is the place to go. I cannot recommend them highly enough.
