I would leave a ZERO star review if I could. I am from out of state, NJ. I was turned away at the counter after showing my LEGAL IDENTIFICATION. The cashier did not believe me, she asked for a second form of identification or a credit card with my name on it. I use Apple Pay so I don't always carry credit cards, and I just came back from riding bikes so I don't even have a purse on me. My legal identification drivers license stating my 1996 birth year should have been enough! She then made me leave the store, so that MY MOM could purchase my alcohol for me. Let's make this make sense, she wouldn't serve me because she didn't trust my 29 year old nj license, so then she let me walk out, while someone else purchased the alcohol for me??? TLDR; Inconsistent and unethical ID practices, poor management, and poor training. They asked my co-worker to show her credit card and ID to verify her identity before she even announced her payment method. No one else in my group (or otherwise) was asked to show anything. Context: We were ALL from out of state and all well under 40. When confronted, the manager (rhymes with glob) exhibited some of the worst communication skills I've ever observed. Huge bottles of sake, a great variety of local ales (they have a section devoted to New England- from Sam Adams to obscure brands) They have a special Wine Country-themed section with Napa&Sonoma. The beer section is larger than the wine, so if you're looking for brews (especially local ones), you're in luck, tho I wasn't able to find Shipyard out of Portland (Maine) They carry all the seasonal Sam Adams brews. It's about the size of a grocery store. While it has its own private lot, you can park by Petco/Dollar Tree/Christmas Tree Shops. Pretty decent wine selection, lots of hard alcohol and giant bottles of Cointreau. So why just three stars? Well for one, three stars doesn't mean it's bad. It's just not great. The prices are just "ok", and given they are one of the few large bottle shops on the Cape they kind of have a captive audience. Ok, so now you have your beverages how about some snacks? I found this store beyond rude and not accommodating. They showed no protection of any of their employees against Covid 19 but did not allow an elderly person to use the rest room. No masks, no distance monitoring. Fearful employees who understood but were afraid to speak up. The manager was hostile. Their prices are high, service level even in good times is bad. This location in particular has a great selection of Portuguese items that include Port wines as well as Aguardiente. This location also has a great selection of cigars. Who doesn't love a liquor store that looks like a supermarket? Kappa's has a great and knowledgable staff as well as an incredible selection of sports, wines, imported beers and much more. You have to see it to understand what I am talking about but I have yet to not find something I was looking for. They have aisle and aisles of wine from all over the United States and the world. If you don't see something you can talk to management and they might be able to get it for you. As a customer at Kappys in Falmouth since it has opened years ago I went in to get a box or two as I've done MANY times. This total bitch of a girl left her cashier station when it just so happened she was waiting on my good friend who had his items in front of her to ring up..to come over to me and let me know I could not take a box I wanted. All the boxes were for customers buying wine when I inquired. There were TONS of boxes piled high. She showed me a corner where they were allowed to be taken. And most of the few there would hold maybe 3 bottles of wine. She realized she was waiting on my friend who I was waiting for and apparently got nervous as she continuously darted her eyes back and forth to me as if she thought I might start a fight which I would never stoop to her level ...she had a "hard" look to her and her nastiness exhibited who she was. I did whisper to her on my way out that I would verify what she said and she snarled "go ahead...there's the manager". Who was ringing up customers in her station. There was no sign stating boxes were for customers; My friend bought several bottles of wine and could take all he wanted; most people buy a bottle or two or three and don't need boxes and since I was closer to the manager than to her who went out of her way to be the bitch she is ...the manager could have said something if that was the case. It was not the case. Anyone in Falmouth that goes in for a box or two will tell you that. I'm not interested in going there or any Kappy's now. I go weekly and more around holidays in Medford. They advertise a 10% case discount but it's a sham! Staff tells you that you can "mix & match" wines for a case discount however at checkout no discount comes off the receipt. Then the "not so friendly" manager tries to confuse things by stating the reason you didn't receive the discount is because the wines you purchased were "on sale" despite no sale signs, pricing or notification of a sale on the racks. In addition, most of the staff is unfriendly and unhelpful and generally unpleasant to be around. Don't waste your time or money! read more

Our local Kappy's in Falmouth stocks nearly every kind of beer, wine, and liquor, save one. Brian, one of the managers listened to my request for something specific that they actually didn't have, he wrote down my name and phone number while I was checking out and said he would see if it was available. About 30 minutes later I received a call from Brian. He had spoken with his distributor, it may take a little time, but he would make sure Kappy's would honor my request. I am not sure what Mike B. is talking about and I take issue with his rambling statement. I have shopped at Kappy's for the last 5 years. I have found the staff at Kappy's to be very knowledgeable and helpful. I have never had an issue finding an employee to help me and the cashiers have always said hello and goodbye and never sensed any sort of rudeness. I absolutely love attending their beer tastings (I think 3 a year). They have a great selection and if you are looking for something they do not carry, they go out of their way to try to get it for you. I think Mike B. has an agenda. I am not sure why his major point seems to aim at the treatment of foreigners. I was in on Sunday and a Jamaican gentlemen helped me find a certain wine and was very helpful. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't hire Jamaicans if they really had issues with "Foreigners". I also know from shopping there over the last 5 years that they have had several "foreigners" working there from various countries. By the look of the language of his post, it seems his grasp of the English language may be lacking and he may be projecting his own issues of a perceived bias against "foreigners" because he is one himself. Furthermore, If the gentleman who wrote this post really works for one of the world renown institutions in Woods Hole, then they might want to re-evaluate their hiring practices. This is a great store to visit if you are just picking up some run of the mill beer or the makings for a martini or a manhattan. Where it falls short of being a great store is the lack of microbrews outside of Cape Cod, lack of imported beers, and the absence of good mixers and bitters.
