The Devils Purse is an amazing brewery that offers a variety of delicious beers and sells a ton of really nice merchandise. On my recent stay in Dennis Port I was searching for a brewery that was open, January is off season in the Cape. The parking lot was full as we pulled up so I immediately knew we made the right decision. The manager welcomed us and even went out of his way to give us free bingo cards for a chance to win a gift card to the brewery. This has to be a local favorite as many of the other friendly people inside were sporting their merchandise. I loved their lager and IPA, they offer Togo packs of beer and small snacks in the taproom! This is definitely a place to stop for beer lovers in the Cape. read more

We love breweries so we probably would have come here anyway during our recent stay in Cape Cod but the fact that they are cool with dogs really put it over the top in our book. We stopped in just after lunchtime during the week with our two small dogs in tow. They have a nice seating area with multiple different types of seating (picnic tables, Adirondack chairs, etc). They offer multiple brews in two different sizes. I felt that prices were more than reasonable. I was bummed out that they didn't have food tho. Definitely worth a stop if you're a beer fan. read more

Stopped by this brewery while vacationing at the Cape last summer. We sat outside with the kiddos. I tried the Handline Kolsch which was pretty good. I also liked the Table Beer. The Stonehorse Citra IPA was enjoyed by others in my group. We all especially likes Good Mud-a delicious dark lager. Recommended. read more

Devil's Purse Brewing Company is a craft brewery that opened in South Dennis, Massachusetts in May 2015. It was founded by Mike Segerson and Matt Belson. Belson had served in the Coast Guard, and then worked as a reporter for the Cape Codder newspaper. Segerson was working as a winemaker at Truro Vineyards and briefly wrote a wine column for the Codder. The duo first started home-brewing together in the early 2000s. By 2011, they came up with the idea to open their own brewery. They considered opening a brew pub, then decided it would be better to build a commercial brewing operation. 'Devil's Purse' was a name that Mike had given to one of his early home brews. Spending summers on the Cape as a child, he recalls boating on the family's Boston Whaler in Chatham, his mother handing him a dried skate-egg case from the beach and calling it a "devil's purse," giving him a lifelong memory draped in awe and beauty. Most of the brewery's offerings are European styles that are named after nautical themes and sea life. My wife and I visited Devil's Purse for the first time in July 2019. I had spent most of the day cycling on the Cape Cod Rail Trail and had built up quite a thirst. The brewery had a nice outdoor biergarten where customers could enjoy a game of cornhole. Unfortunately, they didn't serve beer flights but they did serve short pours. My first sample was of "Middle Ground IPA": a malty IPA with some nice candied citrus notes. Next up was "Intertidal Stout": an oyster stout made with fresh oysters harvested from nearby Chatham. My final sample was "Pollock Rip IPA": a solid IPA with a balance of spicy flavors and citrus notes. The last one was my favorite and I purchased a four-pack of cans to go. We stopped here on our way to Provincetown, very easy to find while traveling. Typical brewery set up for tasting, indoor there were a few pub height tables to stand and enjoy. The taps were staffed by friendly staff who could answer questions. Then they had an extended outdoor area to enjoy fresh air and sun. The beer selection included 10 different options, and they offer 5oz and 16oz pours. We enjoyed the 4 different beers we tasted - Handline Kolsch, Surfman's Check ESB (an pub ale), Tablebeer #15 (session ale), and Skywave #7 (Saison). I enjoyed the Surfman's beer the most, and Alan liked the Saison. All beers were light, refreshing and perfect for summer drinking. If we lived here, we would stop by here. Now knowing their name, we can order if found on bar menus. The Devil's Purse brewery is a nice find in Cape Cod. read more

Decent brewery with friendly staff. This is a tasting only brewery and you can buy grawlers or large canned beer to go. They can the beer onsite, which is pretty cool. When we visited, they had 3 beers: Kolsh, IPA, and Stout. All decent beer, my favorite was the Kolsh, very flavorful. The stout was also good, but a little bitter. While I'm not an IPA fan, my husband said it was very good. Beware that they don't have patron restroom and they only open 4-6 pm in the weekdays, plan ahead. read more

It is indeed "all about the beer" here at the moment. You have several nice tables that can accommodate groups standing inside, plus areas outside in nice weather. I do like the way they set you up for tastings. I'm hoping they're able to expand their accommodations and services as they grow, because this would be a place I'd want to stay for a while with larger accommodations. read more

Great beer and great service. We couldn't sit in but we ordered online to pick up, and it was ready within minutes. Friendly service with a smile and seemed very appreciative of the business in this tough time. Big fan of the shiso + berry ale and the coffee stout! Went here for the second time last week in order to sample some brews and bring some back to CT. Love the system of 20 oz total pours so you can have 2 10 oz glasses or 4 5 oz pours your choice. The selection is great and the ability to not only bring home cans but crowlers, howlers and growlers make it a fun afternoon for any beer drinking guy or gal. read more

I only get to Cape Cod once a year these days, having grown up here as a kid. I was so pleased to find this brewery right in the same town as my parent's house. They seem to have grown their style offerings from their original European lineup but everything's been great. I have a short list of places to visit when I get to the Cape, and this brewery is at the top of my list. To all those whining about lack of flights, suck it up. Flights are a major PITA for servers to fill. Grab a few short pours and actually enjoy your beer. As for the portapotty comments, I agree. I think the brewery is outgrowing their space. I hope they can expand and put in a larger tap room and real bathrooms. read more

Live nearby and wanted to give it a try... Clean, friendly, in an industrial condo complex off a main road into and out of town to the east. Easy to find...The only one with a green "turf rug" and comfortable looking chairs under a tent. They offer tasting size pulls (4 oz) along with pints. They offer retail of their sizeable selection of brews; they sell by the four-pack whereby you can select individual offerings or all of the same. As it was our first encounter, we went with the tasting size and chose their baseline ale and one highlighting grapefruit in the mash. The baseline ale (Köelch) is robust with a clean, well-rounded taste stays on the palate. It's very much a European-style brew with a good, tasty head. Grapefruit ale (Stonehorse Citra) is a lighter drink with a pleasant, slightly more than a hint, fruity connection. The grapefruit contribution lingers refreshingly. We'll be back soon to sample some of the other offerings. What made the trip most enjoyable was sitting on their "patio" under their tent on a sunny, comfortably temperatured June day. There's no crowding of their comfortable seating and plants make you forget that you are sitting in the middle of a parking lot in front of a warehouse... It's a nice place to stop and get something refreshing...Bring your lunch and enjoy it with a pint of ale. Dogs get treats, too. read more

This was the first brewery we visited while in the Cape, and it was honestly our least favorite by a pretty large margin. The staff working here were just not pleasant and didn't bother pretending. They don't offer flights, but they do offer smaller pours - but seemed perpetually annoyed when we asked for a variety of those. They allowed us 1 each at a time and were nearly nasty when we finished those and asked to try some of the other beers. Small place in an industrial park sort of area and limited seating inside or out - we had to stand, and not even due to a lot of people there, just due to the extremely limited seating. Enjoyed a nice afternoon sampling some delicious local craft beer. Devils Purse is located in South Dennis and about a mile and a half from the house we rent. So will definitely be a yearly stop. This brewery has a great tasting area and when we arrived there was only 2 other people . When we left about 15. They have a centrally located location and most important a great product For the tastings you can have 5 or 10 oz tastings . They give u a card and a pencil and you write down which you would like to try. They had 7 beers available for tastings so between the 2 of us we sampled 5 oz tastings of all of them. All the beers we tried we liked but our 2 favorites were their Handline Kolsch and their Skatemouth Pale Ale. We also liked their sifter type glasses so much we bought a set for home. Later in the week I also enjoyed a pint of their beer at a local restaurant. Definitely stop by for a tasting if you are in the area. read more

Very good beer, but prices are a little lopsided, it's a $2 difference between some 10 oz. vs 16 oz. pours, but they clearly are giving 8 oz. pours instead. Therefore, if you are trying to drink responsibly or try a few different styles (5 oz pours average around $4, and they no longer offer flights, so $20 for 16 oz. of beer). Blonde woman bartender was defensive of pour, other bartender was able to correct it for me. Like I said, beers are good, with a wide variety of styles. However, one cannot enjoy more than a few styles without spending a small fortune or getting wasted. Taproom experience is subpar. I will opt to buy cans and crowlers (love the Handline Kolsch, Surfman's Check ESB, Pollock's Rip, Stonehorse IPA and Intertidal Oyster stout) going forward. read more

Cute little tasting room in the middle of an industrial area (be wary trying to walk here- no sidewalks!). I've enjoyed their beer in the past, and this visit was no exception- I was a fan of every one of the 6+ different beers I tried (they do a killer job at IPAs in particular). Kudos to their efficient system, too- you get one pour at a time, and then step aside so the other patrons can have their share, and only cash out at the end (they use punch cards to keep track of things). Works better than most other tap rooms I've been to. read more

Stopped in to the taproom on our Labor Day trip to the Cape. DP is a great little brewery and well worth a visit. The space is classic industrial, small brewery spartan: garage setting, straight from the tanks tap setup, beer garden in the parking lot, porto-potty restroom - all the classics. What the brewery lacks in amenities it more than makes up for in quality - the beer is the star of the show here. We were well versed in their flagship Kolsch (it's ubiquitous on taps around the area). For anyone who like's beer flavored beer - its a must. A simply excellent example of the style. They offer several variations of IPA (not my vibe but reported to be delicious). They offer the obligatory Oyster Stout which always begs the question: Who started this seaside trend and which do they hate more - beer or oysters? The surprise of the visit was their Red Ale - a beautiful, nutty example of the style, very well brewed. Finally, they have a fabulous Table Beer with a tiny footprint (4.0% ABV) which is perfect for a last beer (or if you want to enjoy a few like the aforementioned oysters). No food to speak of, but plenty of dogs and some quality merch so who's complaining. If you visit the Cape and find yourself near the elbow, Devil's Purse is a great way to kill an hour or two. Great to have another micro on Cape Cod. Inventive beers. I liked but none blew me away as some other new breweries have done this winter. Tasting room experience worth it-- 4 for $5. Stand to taste, fine. Nice and hard working owners/staff. I found their beer growler Crowler prices higher than other NE micro breweries but they look like they are on a roll. I will return and am happy Devil's Purse is in the cape neighborhood. PS only tasting room I have ever visited without a bathroom. Guys, fix that issue. Even portables, please. read more

Devils Purse is all about the beer and the beer is superb. Pollock RIP IPA stands out in a crowded field of hop bombs for its balanced malt backbone. One of my favorites. The Surfmans Check ESB revives a worthy style from the early micro brew days. Handline Kolsch is a crisp yet full bodied lager, perfect for summer sipping. Intertidal Oyster Stout is a rich, earthy beer brewed with different varieties of locally harvested oysters. Pairs perfectly with oysters, duh. Beyond these standards are unique and seasonal offerings. Lastly, the staff here are knowledgeable, committed, and personable. I can't wait to go back! read more

Great brewery for visiting on the Cape. It's a bit hard to find in the industrial area, but super worth it. The beers are delicious and they have a large variety on tap at any given time. Lots of cool gear and growlers to go, in a variety of sizes. They have outdoor tables when the weather warrants, but otherwise the tasting room is on the smaller size. Dogs very welcome and there were multiple hanging out. The ESB and Skywave were some of our favorites. read more

Wish those MA Commonwealth laws were more lenient, because I'd love to hang out here and drink more than a pint before heading out the door with my purchases! Devil's Purse has a varied and creative beer selection; always coming out with more styles and varieties each month. I'm an IPA nut, so I'm a little biased towards the fact that they always have 3-4 IPA varietals at any given time in the tasting room, which is great for me! Their brewhouse is barren (i.e., it's a warehouse!), but the atmosphere is warmed up by the friendly brewers, barkeeps and fellow patrons. Wish that port-a-potty was inside during the winter months, but they're working with what they got right now! Gear is also awesome - I'm in love with their winter hats and three-quarter length LS tees. Definitely stop by when you're at the Cape. It's worth the trek to Dennis! read more
