Today I went in to order TAKEOUT before heading back home. I ordered two small plates of chicken over rice. Come time to pay, there was no option to give no tip, so I crossed out all the tip options to express that I did not want to tip. When the guy took back the screen, he claimed "oh let me see what you did" and proceeded to give HIMSELF a tip. My frustration with this is that I felt targeted by him as a Latina woman. From when I first came into the restaurant, he spoke to me in a condescending voice and made me feel like I did not know how to order my food. I truly feel like I was taken advantage of for being woman and a Latina woman at that. My experience was distasteful and I am saddened to write this review because I used to come all the time with my children and recently passed Arab husband. The driest food you will ever have !! This is the 3rd time and it's been super dry every time but we kept giving them a chance! Not only did the order take for ever to get to my house (over an hour) it was waaay to dry. The falafels were tasty but very dry, the hummus and the babaganoush were delicious, the chicken may look amazing but unfortunately it really isn't. We literally just moved here yesterday and I was craving some really good shawarma a d this place looked like it might deliver so we decided to check it out. Starting off, just looking through the window I knew I was going to like the food. They had 2 of the vertical rotisseries of meat going as well as some whole chicken's roasting. They had a case full of different savory pies, including my favorite, za'atar. Employees were polite but straight to the point which I really appreciated. Hubby and I both got the beef shawarma wrap and a za'atar pie to share. I was back in the Middle East with my first bite of food. The flatbread was soft and perfect and the toppings and fillings were so flavorful and delicious, I seriously wanted to cry. Bad and unhealthy food. The temperature inside the place helps spoil the food. My wife had intestinal cramps as soon as she ate shawarma. If you look at my kebab order, it's like human excrement. The taste of kebab is bad. It's something else that I don't know and I've never seen it before. I was introduced to this place for their tabouleh and roast chicken with garlic sauce and OH MY GOD...I am a fan!!! I don't think I've ever had Lebanese food before but I've had middle eastern food and I'm not a big fan of lamb so it's never been my favorite cuisine. I've only had this chicken and garlic sauce once and I've been dreaming about eating it again ever since. For $8, you get half a chicken with some pickle sides and garlic sauce. There are a bunch of items I would go back and try for sure. This place is dingy and not easy on the eye but once you overlook the decor, you get amazing food. I don't know what happened to Karam, I used to eat here all the time but the quality of the food has drastically declined. Sometime in the past year and a half, the recipes have changed and the food is way below average, it's not even the same restaurant. The 1/2 chicken that was once delicious is now crap, the chicken is extremely dry and the rice tastes half cooked. The shawarma which was also once delicious, is now stringy, dry and flavorless. Last but not least, I used to love their garlic sauce but they've completely changed the recipe and flavor, now it has a strange spiciness to it and tastes terrible. Karam, what have you done?!! Hole in the wall, very cramp inside and the service is not good. You usually have to yell out your order three times before they make it for you. No line either and there are people who would try to skip you if you didn't order when you get a chance. They do have great chicken shawarma, which I enjoy so much that I still venture to get from time to time since it is tasty. I probably would come more often if the service wasn't so bad. Btw, the hummus is good too, I ask them to put it in my chicken shawarma. Yum! So really I would give it a four star, but due to the horrible service I'm going to have to say three stars. read more

If u don't like garlic than stay from their sauces. Here what we had. Chicken and beef pie- was good but crust a bit thick. Mixed grilled platter - was ok. Meat was a bit burned. Turn off Chicken kebab sandwich - ok. Chicken was a bit dry. Everything was ok. I will not go back as I can find better choice of food around. read more

Every couple years, I seem to wind up here for one reason or another. This time it was due to a vague effort to eat on the cheap to make up for spending way too much $$$$ stuffing my face on a recent trip to Philly: Now to back up for a minute, I remember when this eatery used to make one of the best Chicken Shawarmas with Garlic Sauce in NYC. At one point, there was even a Midtown outpost that ultimately closed. So let's just say that me and Karam have a history together. Flash forward to now... On a Saturday night, this place was every bit the claustrophobic mob scene that I remember, drawing a seeming mix of locals, cabbies, and random outliers like hubby and me. Maybe it's my imagination, but it seems to have gotten even dingier since my last visit, boasting greasy, crumb strewn tabletops that didn't look like they were going to be wiped down anytime soon. Lady that I am, I was a wee bit grossed out, so I grabbed a few napkins to clear off some eating space. This spot displays an 'A' rating from the Health Department in the window. Um, okay... I've got some strong, potentially libelous opinions on that which I'll refrain from sharing, but yeah. Alright already! How was the food? Chicken Shawarma: Prior to this, to my recollection, the Shawarmas here were always pressed into something resembling a compact burrito, only with thin pita standing in for a tortilla. This time, it was simply rolled in a loose, half-assed way that made it much more challenging to eat. The chicken didn't taste like it had been marinated or seasoned in any way. It wasn't horrible, but nowhere near the glory I know Karam is capable of. Lamb Kabab Sandwich: Same issues with haphazard construction, compounded by chewy meat. Baba Ganouj: Finally, a winner! ULTRA Smoky and delicious. Hubby and I had originally set out to try nearby newish Al Basha Express, but it was too empty and depressing for a Saturday night, so we decided to come here instead, figuring it would likely draw a crowd. We weren't wrong, but after this visit, my question is 'Why?' Based on this experience, Karam is coasting on its long ago accolades and has become complacent and careless. I've been a long time fan of Karam. They are my go to for a chicken shawarma sandwich. Their tahini or garlic sauce (not sure which sauce is in the sandwich) has a very strong flavor, the taste will linger in your mouth for a while, so be prepared for that. The large chicken shawarma plate which comes with two cold appetizers whereas the small is just the chicken with rice or salad is very filling. They are very generous with their portions. We ordered for pick up recently, they called when they had a question about the order and it was ready for pick up in time. I love their babaghanoush, I would probably choose this over their hummus (which is also good). Definitely a decent amount of food you get for the price. Their kibbeh balls are very flavorful. Their falafels are a good size but I do find them on the drier side. Definitely a good spot in the neighborhood, they never disappoint. read more

Yes i ordered a mixed shawarmas which had beef, chicken and lamb and I can tell you it was delicious. The meat was well seasoned and had a lot of flavor; the sandwich itself was tasty. My who is a vegetarian ordered a falafel shawarma and she said it was fresh and tasted good. We also had a side of taboulé and Zataar pie. First time having Lebanese food and I am impressed by the flavors and portions. I'm always looking to try new foods so I got a mix of different things. I got the lamb combo with grape leaves and house salad. My husband got the chicken combo with rice and babaghanouj. The chicken was more flavorful and juicy than the lamb. The combos also came with 2 large pieces of flatbread with a dip. Also had the kibbeh ball and small meat pie both were pretty good. Delivery took some time about an hour from when I ordered but the guy was nice and friendly. I'll definitely order again and try the chicken shawarma sandwich next time around. read more

I have been living in Brooklyn for 6 years, and this is by far my family's best encounter with Lebanese food in the US! Lebanese food is one of the best middle eastern cuisines, but we rarely find a middle eastern restaurant with the same quality as restaurants in the Middle East. Very tasty, has a home-cooked meal freshness to it, and is light! I ordered 3 different mixed plates (mixed grill, chicken, and kefte). The food is super yummy, and has a true authentic Lebanese taste. It's my first time ordering from Karam, so I thought I'd try the rice pudding (riz be haleeb, as Lebanese say it) and it was s u p e r b. I work close by to this location. So I tried it a couple times. Most of my friends who are not middle eastern thinks this place is amazing and has the best shawarma. I tried both their chicken shawarma and the meat shawarma. I would probably give this place a 2.5 stars given that I have had amazing shawarma in the Middle East. The meat itself is really no bueno and dry. The flavor is mostly coming from the pickles and the sauce. Good shawarma should be able to have amazing flavor on its own without having to add anything to it. There are a couple good shawarma spots in NYC (one in bay ridge and one in Astoria). If you want the absolute best shawarma in the US, you need to go to Michigan though.. you can DM me and I will give you those recs if you ask nicely :p read more

Walking in to place an order in this restaurant is a nightmare during rush hours. No structure what so ever with the line being a virtual circle of people wanting different things. Within that circle of people were those having already placed their orders waiting to get their food , people ordering from doordash and other pickup services, and walk-in's waiting to place their orders . This disorder is a recipe for an argument of which I was lucky to witness two!! During my nearly 15 minutes of wait time.
