Very easy delivery that was prompt and service was good. I ordered some falafel wraps and shawarma wraps. There was a common theme among all the wraps was that the falafel and meat was overcooked. The flavors are there and the wraps have great flavor but the main ingredient should be cooked slightly less. My guess is the falafel/meat were sitting under a hot lamp to stay warm until they are ordered which overcooks them. If they fix this it will be a 4 star place. They add some beets (i think) to the wraps which adds great flavor and something I havent had in the wraps before. Not a bad lunch spot if you are in the mood for middle eastern cuisine. read more

Wow seriously that's the best Shawarma Sandwich I've ever had in NYC. Take the mixed Shawarma plus Hummus. This sandwich was like a journey. The garlic sauce is spicy and strong so just be careful. It's a tiny little restaurant and there is not much seating, maybe 8-10. I trekked out to the ends of the earth today for a sandwich, not just any old sandwich mind you but a chicken shawarma sammy. And perhaps I'm exaggerating when I say ends of the earth for this Bay Ridge joint is an hour subway ride tops. But all told, when I found out there was 'toum'-lebanese garlic dip to be had here this place became tops on my food faring adventures list. I first stumbled upon shawarmas and toum way back during my college years up in Ottawa. Owing due to a big Lebanese population, there's a shawarma joint on nearly every block downtown catering to the whims of both drunken students and cabbies. Anywhoo, once I got my chompers on a chicken shawarma I discovered that the robust garlicky toum and spit roasted chicken made a felicitous pairing in any combo of meat and pita. It's a bit of dealbreaker needless to say and when I saw that most places offered only tahini or hummus in manhattan I had to take my search elsewhere. Enter Karam, a tiny unassuming Lebanese take out joint in Bay Ridge. The guys here were a little aloof when I walked in but one of them perked up when I added "extra toum" in my order of a chicken shawarma sandwich. The beautiful sandwich came loaded on a toasted pita with a fistful of juicy chicken slathered in toum and topped with lettuce, tomatoes, pickled turnips (another must) and a smattering of tabbouleh. I was satisfied on the spot, although finishing the sandwich was a bit of work, for it was packed and the juices were bursting out like 'ole faithful. Just had a beef kebab platter and it was delicious. The kebab was put on the grill once I ordered, so I can attest to the fact that food is cooked freshly. The kebab was on salad, wanted rice but didn't get that since I'm currently on a low carb diet. The zatar pita was calling my name but I managed to resist. I haven't been to this place in some time so stopped in for a quick bit of lunch and based on a bunch of things to do I placed my order to go. On arrival the place was rather busy and they were dishing out the orders fast and furious. I didn't wait more than five minutes and ordered up a Falafel sandwich and an order of the grape leaves with beef and rice. This space is quite small and while there are a handful of tables there, each is made for no more than two patrons and you will be standing directly with folks at the counter ordering. Depending on the time of the day this could be annoying. Over the speakers, Arabic music was playing and some of the staff was humming along to it and if you need to speak the language as well the staff can definitely work with you there. The experience was quick but a pleasant enough one and my food was very tasty. Perhaps I will get there again soon and try some of the other offerings. If you are lucky enough to snag a table, the following patrons who enter after you will eyerape you until you are done eating. The cooks are friendly and efficient (no servers), and the food is so tasty you'll forget all their misgivings once a bite of succulent lamb (or chicken or beef) passes through your lips! We always get the combo platter which comes with a choice of kafta, lamb/chicken/beef kebab, or shawarma, and two cold appetizers (i.e. baba, hummus, tabouli), rice/salad, and pita. Inside has a type of mild garlic sauce. So delicious! Not the type of garlic sauce that will leave your breath kickin for the next few hours until you brush your teeth, it's just enough. It's a small place with about 6 tables, so if you stay you gotta try and find a seat. When I was eating inside there was continuously a line and people coming in and out. We came here for lunch with a group of three, and ordered a lot -- two chicken shawarma sandwiches, hommous, baba ghanouj, tabouleh, pita, falafel, and two pies (zaatar with tomatoes, and kichek). The chicken shawarma lived up to the hype -- it was really good, and on its own would have been worth the trip. There's no atmosphere to speak of, no waiter service, and there're only around 4 tables - so don't count on getting a seat, because it is popular! We got a couple of shawarma sandwiches, and they were very, very good. They're kind of Karam's signature dish, so if you come here, get them. Also got a lahmajeen, which was ok, but not the best I've had, and containers of hummus, tabbouleh, and labneh with cucumbers. Got some lemonade - the guy loves it, I thought it was nigh-undrinkable (too sweet!). Prices are kinda mid-range - a shawarma sandwich is only $6.50, but if you want a platter, it jumps up to $17. The mix shawarma platter was juicy, crunchy and well cooked, the rice was tasty as well and the one thing I loved in their salad was fresh yogurt which gave great taste to the whole platter. Also tried there Half Cheese and Half Meat pie and it was like I was eating pizza only Lebanese style lol it was delicious only thing it got cold rather quick. Sometimes even the rotisserie chicken but honestly it's because it goes well with the GARLIC SAUCE **EXTREMELY STRONG** which is to die for but you can order that on the side and keep some to use as dip for your chicken or whatever from other places. For the meats, it's whatever type floats your boat, they are all well-seasoned & delicious. The Schawarma sandwiches are regular priced, packed with good amount of meats and the right flavors. An old co-worker, who grew up in Bay Ridge and who was half Lebanese told me that this is THEE place to go for Lebanese food. The service is very friendly and accommodating. I think this is the first place I got to try most of the dishes they had- to see what Middle Eastern food is like. Everything tastes great here: the kofta, grape leaves, falafel, tabouli, hummus. I've tried their veggie platter, consisting of 3-4 veg options (babaganoush, a pickled string bean, fava beans). Tip: Instead of ordering a sandwich, order the kofta or grape leave separate, and a container of hummus, and ask for an extra pita on the side. Got the schwaerma delivered to my apartment, it actually came earlier than their listed opening time which was a nice surprise for my rumbly tumbly. As far as schwaerma goes, this was among the best with one caveat. The meat was well-spiced and moist, the pita was toasted and slightly crunchy, the garlic sauce incredibly pungent and powerful. Combined with the hefty portion-size, this was one heck of a meal. The only complain I could levy was that the pickled jicama was waay too overpoweringly tangy and the wet crunchiness distracted me from the soft savoriness of the meaty filling.
