But Adam exceeded our expectations and has been a tremendous help for us. We were introduced through referral via our agent and we are so grateful for the opportunity to cross paths with him. He is an EXCEPTIONAL loan officer/broker and we couldn't be happier with his service. We had a lot of questions regarding the process and were searching at a time where rates were extremely challenging, but Adam helped us find an incredible low rate, which made purchasing a home possible. We shopped around, and trust us, you cannot beat his rates! He is straight forward, honest, demystified all things mortgage/lending, and was razor sharp the whole time. With his support, we closed fast, smoothly, efficiently and he made sure it was painless. We had a planned week trip during our closing period, and he made sure we had everything in place and communicated well so that we didn't have to worry. He puts his clients first and is responsive. Something we did not realize while purchasing our home was how an optimized portal makes a difference in the process. Adam's portal was easy to navigate and user friendly compared to other platforms. He's always one step ahead, which gave us a competitive edge to secure a home. We will be using him again when we refinance and have full confidence recommending him to everyone we know. Can't recommend Adam enough!

The level of customer service I received from both Gary and Gina at this branch was of a caliber I would only anticipate being able to access with extraordinary dollar volumes. They offered me the kind of personal care, attention and genuine concrete help that even the most prestigious banking client would be happy to pay for. Both Gary and Gina went above and beyond to make sure I was able to close on an out of state property in a timely fashion. Due to errors on my end, the funds were not scheduled to be available until a week after the scheduled close. But thanks to the pro-active follow-up of both Gary & Gina in manually coordinating efforts with their back office and the institution from where the funds were coming from, the funds were released so that I was able to close timely. I am truly grateful for their excellent service. I HIGHLY recommend this bank and this branch!

A week later a banker informed me she had finally applied the interest rate, but the following week, still no rate and I was left calling in again to get information. The banker finally called and informed me I never qualified for the promotional rate. No apology, no we made a mistake, just go bank somewhere else. A follow-up complaint to a manager produced no result. This combination of sloppy work and miserable customer service has caused me mainly great frustration, but for others it could be financially costly.

With fewer and fewer options within the retail banking market, I realized there are not as many big names there once was. Then it dawned on me, my wife does her banking at Patelco. They Staff at Patelco Understand That It Is My Deposits That Facilitate Their Revenue Stream. The level of professionalism the staff conducted themselves with was as refreshing as the complimentary cup of coffee. My hope is that this message get the attention of some other folks that manage businesses, and that they are encouraged to STEP UP THIER GAME, and not just engage in a competition of less for more when it comes to their competitors. I have a feeling that this will be a long and prosperous relationship. As of now, Patelco in Livermore has my endorsement.

We recently had the opportunity to refinance and without hesitation, Stephen reached out directly to us as soon as he noticed rates were coming down. This was a new program announced by press release, which I read about in a Yahoo! Finance article, through a link on Google News. Having worked previously in real estate and finance, I knew what the key points were to our situation, so I included those in the message to Stephen, asking whether he would be able to do the loan. Stephen responded abruptly by saying that he would have to talk with me by phone, to discuss "details." After I called him, he proceeded to try to browbeat me into accepting a different program at a higher interest rate. His approach was to use old-fashioned psychological pressure tactics, along the lines of: "Are you so naïve that you think you could actually get such a loan? That rate is just a teaser that you would never actually get." He was crude, demeaning and even insulting. I informed him, politely, that I had a background in real estate and finance, so I was not naïve about these things, offering him one last chance to do business with us, if he was so inclined. But he insisted that the loan would not be possible for us, so I thanked him and said goodbye. Shortly thereafter, I found a straightforward loan broker who in fact did the loan for us, on exactly the terms I had in mind: 1.99% 15-year fixed, with a reasonable fee. We closed in less than three weeks and none of the things that Stephen said were obstacles turned out to be an issue. I am pleased to report that my wife and I are now enjoying substantially lower monthly payments. BOTTOM LINE: If you want someone with an "old-school" approach to sales--involving psychological games, pressure tactics and absence of transparency (resulting in your not getting the best deal that you could)--Stephen Wong may be a good fit for you. Anyone interested in connecting with the straightforward broker we ultimately used is welcome to send me a private message, as I'm not allowed to include that information in my review.
