I was recently inspired to find a new bank, (if you know what I mean.) So I went directly across the street and found much of the same. With fewer and fewer options within the retail banking market, I realized there are not as many big names there once was. Then it dawned on me, my wife does her banking at Patelco. Personal finance can be broken down in one sentence. "Poor people spend their money and save what's left and Rich people save their money and spend what's left." They Staff at Patelco Understand That It Is My Deposits That Facilitate Their Revenue Stream. The level of professionalism the staff conducted themselves with was as refreshing as the complimentary cup of coffee. My hope is that this message get the attention of some other folks that manage businesses, and that they are encouraged to STEP UP THIER GAME, and not just engage in a competition of less for more when it comes to their competitors. I have a feeling that this will be a long and prosperous relationship. As of now, Patelco in Livermore has my endorsement. read more

It doesn't seem as if people review this bank very often, but I'm going to share my experience anyway in the hopes that somebody who cares about this kind of thing might read it and change the current process. My husband and I had our mortgage here at one point until we paid it off and we've always had CD's here because we live in Livermore and want to keep some of our money locally, both for personal reasons and the benefit of others where a credit union is involved. When you have a CD here they notify you by mail and you either have to go into the branch, FAX (yes, I said FAX) or mail back (snail mail) what you would like done when it expires. You have a ten day grace period before it's permanently rolled over into their lowest tier CD available. We chose to go into the branch and renew the CD with their rate of 4% for 9 months. We were told the teller could do it for us, but we've always liked sitting down with somebody considering the amount of money involved and going over our options. Since the wait time would be quit substantial, we agreed to just use the teller. After pulling up our CD we were told we had two options, one was to renew for 3.5% instead of the advertised 4% or we could open a checking account and do a direct deposit every month of a minimum of $500 into this new checking account in order to keep the 4% rate. We explained that Marcus currently had 4.2% but we wanted to keep our money there for the reasons I've already stated, but we didn't need a checking account and we don't have anything that direct deposits. We were told we could manually transfer in $500 every month from another account to meet the requirement for the 4%. Why? I get you want to drive new business there in other forms, but it seems detrimental to your existing customer when there are better rates elsewhere. So, we took our substantial amount of money in that CD and had it transferred over to Marcus yesterday at 4.2% and now our balance at Patelco is zero and it's going to stay that way. I'm putting three stars instead of one or two because in the past we've always sat down with the manager to renew our CD's and we always come in with my Mom who also does it at the same time as us and he's such a lovely guy and always very helpful. Also, they were great when we needed to refinance our home loan and the tellers celebrated with us years later when we went to the bank during COVID to pay off our mortgage. read more

I had an appointment with Kelly Burdick earlier today for home mortgage and the experience was beyond bad. She was 20 minutes late to the appointment. No apologies, no nothing, red flag number 1. The more I talked to her, the more I know that she doesn't know what she was doing and when I asked for clarification on some of the ridiculous details that she made up, she got mad and started raising her voice to the point it sounded like she's yelling, stating that she had processed hundreds of loans from Chase to JP Morgan to here. She was very arrogant, unwilling to help and rude. When she knew she wouldn't be able to talk me into the high interest mortgages, she shoved me out of the room and didn't forget to tell me to hurry up while I was gathering my stuff. While I was leaving, she rudely yelled "don't come back." I said "excuse me?" just to give her a chance to fix her language but she repeated "people shouldn't look to buy a house when they're broke." She acted entitled and is not a good fit to the company, no wonder why she changed jobs so often. What a nightmare! I'm still emotionally damaged by the appointment with. Patelco in Livermore has top notch customer service. The branch manager, Joey has been so amazing to work with. He helped me with my mom's trust account when she passed. He is very attentive and compassionate. He made my experience very easy especially during a very hard time. We have since had to have his help with other accounts and when I felt uncomfortable pulling out a large amount of cash, he took care of everything and his staff was very discreet. Worst customer service ever. I've been jerked around trying to close an account for a deceased parent. NO ONE will call me back despite multiple assurances that the "back office" will contact you in 1 - 2 business days. Before my father passed he asked me to move money for him (he was in hospice) and I sent in Durable Power of Attorney and the "back office" sat on it for 2 weeks. Now I'm simple trying to close the account. I've spent hours on hold over the past 4 weeks and gotten no where. It's stressful enough having to deal with with the passing of a parent. I'm dealing with 8 separate entities for the estate and Patelco is, hands down, the WORST to deal with. read more

Today I needed to make a large deposit that I didn't Saturday. Because of a line outside. When approaching the bank. There where a couple people waiting their turn to get in. This Pandemic allows the bank only so many people in during business hours. A person in front me and myself had waited at least a good 5 to 8 minutes. This review is all about Lucy, a teller that helped me back in February. Shame on me for not thinking to write a yelp review sooner. I had made some feeble attempts to contact Patelco through their website but they don't appear to have a simple way to give kudos. Anyway, I rarely go into branches. Banking is much so simpler with direct deposit and bill paying by mail. Unfortunately, I had gotten hurt at work and was receiving temporary disability checks. No direct deposit for those, so i went into the branch to make the deposit. While I was there, I asked Lucy how much lead time I needed in order to place an order for some new $20 bills. Chinese New Year was approaching and I needed some crisp new bills to stuff red envelopes with. Lucy stated that she wasn't sure but she would be happy to find out and contact me later. Two days later, she called me. I had forgotten. After she told me about the lead time and that there was no guarantee that the bills would be new, she also mentioned that she had brand new $10 bills in stock. I asked if she had a particular amount and asked her to put them aside for me. I picked them up that day. It was also cool that she remembered me by name when she saw me. Excellent customer service is rare in so many industries now. Which is crazy considering how many people say that we're turning into a service industry nation. Kudos to Lucy! read more

She spent as much time as I needed to get everything figured out. She explained everything to me and didn't rush anything. I had to go back again today to take some documents and she again was absolutely wonderful. I am feeling very good about my choice to switch financial institutions. I came to this Patelco location as we headed to some local winery in Livermore. This was a small location, but overall it's conveniently located. My review is for a staff name Carly! She assisted my friend for basic stuff- I just cannot apprehend how I am able to hear the conversation all the way from 10 feet away. Patelco, may we share our thoughts with you that while we appreciated how friendly and courteous your staff can be, members privacy is already compromised as I can hear her repeating members account information, etc... I had to tell my friend that in the future, should he needs to conduct his transactions in smaller branch to please ask the teller to write out his info and not cheerfully blasted out for everyone to hear! My husband and I just bought a house in Livermore and decided we wanted to open our first joint account at Patelco Credit Union based on our experience with credit unions in the past. We did not want to go to a "big bank", as they tend to not provide as much of a personal connection and building trust is important when it comes to who you bank with. There were a couple people in line ahead of us, but the wait was only a few minutes. While we were waiting, we read many signs on the wall, which gave us an idea of what type of services Patelco provides, even before talking to anyone. We weren't aware that having an appointment to meet with a banker would be helpful, but it turned out the banker (Dawn Cooper) was available to meet with us immediately! The approval process for joining the credit union was quick and easy and Dawn was very professional and knowledgeable. She asked us all of the right questions to find out what accounts were best for us to start with and let us know we could contact her directly if we have any questions or would like to make any changes or upgrades to our accounts once we get settled in and figure out if any of the other services would be helpful to needs. We enjoyed our time with her and look forward to visiting her again. It is very likely my husband and I will be closing our other bank accounts and bank primarily with Patelco. read more

I used to be a BIG fan of credit unions. Small banking institutions with good, caring customer service and products. I have been a Patelco member for almost 28 years and started when membership was limited to Pacific Telephone Company (aka Pac*Bell, SBC, and now AT&T) employee. Something happened when credit unions won the right to accept any customers, they started thinking like big banks. Well, if I am going to be treated like a big bank customer I'd at least like some of the benefits of banking with a big bank: world-wide locations, 24 hour service, highly polished web sites, lots of branches, etc. This year Patelco did something that I find totally inexcusable. They changed their overseas credit card use policy to require that they be given prior notification that the card will be used outside the US. Otherwise, they will reject the attempt to use the card. That is not good, but what is worse is that this was done with NO notice to the members. Since I was ALREADY outside the US when the policy changed, I ended up being totally embarrassed when my card was refused. Their response, it was for my protection! I still think a CU is probably better than a big bank, but I also think you can probably do better than with Patelco. read more

When we financed our car through Patelco, we purchased the Route 66 extended car warranty which was well worth it. We decided to sell our car which still had a loan balance and the warranty company stated that they needed a notarized bill of sale in order to transfer the warranty to the new owner. The new owner was only going to buy the car because of the warranty. We walked into this branch at 1PM on A Wednesday with no appointment and Karen took us almost immediately and helped us through the whole Process. Karen was extremely nice and answered any questions we or the buyer asked. I wish I lived closer to this location to experience the customer service Karen and this branch provided. read more
