The location off Roe (and yours) has the chicken finger snack. At the location on Roe it's freaking incredible. The coffee bbq sauce is next level.. but at the Lawrence location it's overly greasy and the chicken is shaped weird. You also didn't give me the coffee bbq and that made me wanna cry. Also I know Lawrence has a bag ban but pleaseeeee give paper bags. I don't like my crappy chicken strips or girl breakfast flying around my car Also not great matcha. I really like your lattes and cake though! I never go inside because it's too crowded.. so obviously you're doing something right when the inside gets so full. Also love the vibe. Anyway I have mixed feelings as you can tell. Byeeeee!

It's too pricey for the quality. The location is nice and I do like the interior. It is fashioned to be very neo-quaint (I made that up). Everything is very eye catching and pleasing. They sell t-shirts, caps, dry tea and coffee. You can get all sorts of knick-knacks at this restaurant. The food is order at the counter style and they bring it to your table. I was here with a friend and we told the cashier we were eating in the restaurant. The funny thing is they brought us all disposable utensils. People at other tables had glass drinking cups but we had paper. Very odd and my friend was not too happy about us being singled out in this manner. I love biscuits and gravy and I thought the McLain's version was both good and bad. The biscuits and gravy were good but it came with a scrambled egg and hash browns. They were terrible. Microwave oven best. They don't give you a choice of egg- which is telling. You automatically get scrambled. I guess that's the best the microwave could off up. The total price on the biscuits and gravy and microwaved scrambled egg and hash browns was almost $10. Not worth it at all. My friend had the Farmer sandwich. It looked good and it was very big but my friend was unimpressed. All the items on their menu seemed overpriced. Bottom line for me is that it's just OK, nothing special. The restaurant is easy to access and visually appealing. There are no issues with staff and everyone seemed pleasant enough. I just think this place could be better.

Everything flows. It's organized chaos done right. The seasonal drinks are consistently creative and actually good. Not just pretty for Instagram. Balanced, thoughtful, and well executed. And the bakery? Dangerous. The display case is pure temptation. Cinnamon rolls, pecan twists, danishes, cookies, scones. Everything looks like the right choice, which makes choosing impossible. They also have solid brunch plates and sandwiches if you're trying to pretend you're here for something other than sugar and caffeine. Now for the one miss. I ordered the pepper jack breakfast burrito, and unfortunately, it didn't live up to the rest of the experience. Flat flavors, mushy texture, no real identity. The hot sauce was doing most of the work. It felt out of place in a spot that clearly cares about quality. Thankfully, the bakery and coffee saved the day. The pecan twist was flaky, buttery, and just sweet enough. The seasonal latte with cold foam was smooth, balanced, and dialed in. Overall, McLain's is a Kansas City staple for a reason. Efficient, welcoming, and consistently good at what they do. One menu tweak away from being near-perfect. Solid 4-star spot. Would happily come back.

I wasn't the only one with the idea to head to McLain's this morning either. The drive-thru had quite the line-up and there were plenty of folks inside too! This place has great energy. It's colorful and fun with plenty to look at including an amazing bakery case, plenty of packaged food items to go (both sweet and savory), a small retail area, a cool balloon decoration on the wall, and of course the friendly staff and buzzing customers all around. Everything on the menu looks amazing, so it was a challenge to figure out what to order. I ended up going with the market latte with oat milk, the steel cut oats, and a "Plain + Simple," which is "McLain's classic scrambled eggs, bacon, and cheddar, on english muffin toast." My daughter ended up having the P+S and seemed to enjoy it! I also enjoyed my latte and oats. I now know why McLain's is recommended by so many people in the area and how they have 5 locations around town. I would absolutely return!

A few months ago my sister and I hosted a baby shower for our other sister and after looking around an options we decided to go with McLains. It was a smaller group, and we were doing a brunch theme, and our sister LOVES sweets. That paired with our desire to support local, and our shared love of McLains, this was just the most obvious choice. We ended up ordering a cake and first of all I have to say their cake flavor choices are insane - I think we settled on a chocolate cake with peanut butter filling (YUM), but I don't think you can go wrong here. We also ordered one of their pre-set pastry bundles for pick up and honestly everything was wonderful. I think I placed the order about a week out and it was ready when I came to pick it up. What pushed this experience into five star category for me? Just the friendliness of the staff, the serving tools they send you home with, and how thoughtful everyone was. The food was also really just exactly what we needed and it was so good there were hardly any leftovers, I think the kids cleared us out by lunch! At any rate, if you're on the hunt for a great spot to support for your next brunch event consider McLains - they won't let you down!

The pick-up is so quick and easy - just order online, pop-in, and grab your order off the shelves to the left of the entry door. You can't go wrong with the food here from girl breakfast, to the plain + simple breakfast sandwich, to the pepperjack burrito, to the market bowl, lunch menu and their many many mouthwatering pastries. And don't forget about the coffee! They have both real mugs and to-go cups. I love their regular drip coffee, cold brew, cappuccinos and lattes. The cafe's interior design is modern, chic and comfortable with a mix of booth and table seating. I can usually find a seat for 2-4 people, groups larger than that may have a hard time finding a seat during peak times like weekend mornings. Seasonally, McLain's offers outdoor seating, too. Best of all, the staff makes you feel right at home - welcoming, friendly, helpful, hardworking and clean. Parking is angled street parking out front. I ordered and had my drink within a minute, and my food came out shortly after. I ordered the Vanilla Sky specialty latte and the Sunrise sandwich. The latte was pretty mediocre, not bad but not great either. The coffee itself didn't taste anything special, and for the price I was expecting a little more from it. The sandwich, though, was really good. Everything was cooked perfectly: velvety runny egg, crunchy bacon, melted gouda (although I couldn't taste it much), and an earthy basil mayo. All the flavors worked really well together, and it was a solid-sized sandwich too. My biggest issue was the price. I spent over $20 here, and honestly I feel like I could make a sandwich and coffee similar to this at home for cheaper and probably better.

Then paired with a cold brew mixed with Coca-Cola and topped with a cherry-vanilla cold top. Phenomenal. Just as incredible was the bakery case. After a tough decision making process, I took home a cookie, Lemon Goat Cheesecake, and blueberry pop-tart. The nutty bitterness from the fontina added a little bit too much contrast for me. This would be a good choice for people who like sweet and salty things. Overall, each component was tasty, but this particular sandwich wasn't exactly my preferred taste! The oat milk latte was good! Nice and foamy with a good amount of bitterness from the espresso. I was curious about their huge pastry case and would love to try those in the future.

Of the 4 shops we visited this was by far the weakest of the presentations and offerings. We received a 4oz sample of their Ranger Maple Latte and a 5 minute presentation on the business. I was surprised to learn that Front Range is owned by the "Made in Kansas City" retail chain. No offense to the presenter, she was welcoming and friendly, I just think a more detailed presentation of the company as a whole could have been given.
