I hardly ever write negative reviews. However, I feel that this one is warranted. I went to Kari Ryan Dentistry for routine dentistry needs and annual cleanings. I was told that I needed 2 crowns and a filling. I underwent the initial crown on my tooth about 3 years ago and it did fine for a year, but then it started causing severe pain. I returned to the office for evaluation, but they could not figure out why it was hurting, and so I lived with the pain and not being able to chew on one side of my mouth for over a year. Finally, one day the crown just fell off. It was obviously loose which is why it was hurting for a year. In the interim, I had the second crown and the filling performed about 2 years ago. The second crown color did not match my teeth. I was surprised the the dentist who performed it, either did not catch it at the time, or just decided not to fix it at the time. When I looked in the mirror at the office and clearly noticed the poor matching of the color, the dentist said that to fix it, I could whiten the other teeth so it would match better. However, instead of offering to perform an in-office professional whiting to correct the mistake, she gave me an over the counter product, and then charged me an additional $60 for it. I was dismayed to be paying additional money to correct her mistake. Unfortunately, the filling that was performed at the same time, was sensitive from the day it was performed. I returned that very day to let her know that it did not feel right and was told the sensitivity should resolve with time. I even returned and a different dentist there who also tried to fix it, but the sensitivity never went away. I also had difficulty flossing at that tooth and so I continued to mention it at subsequent cleanings and visits over the course of a year. Dr. Ryan finally performed a revision filling, but it was worse and more sensitive afterwards. No one ever called or checked to see if the symptoms had improved, and by that point, I was not returning to that practice. I then went to another dentistry practice. They revised both the crown that fell off and the filling that was chronically sensitive. I am finally pain free without sensitivy for the first time in almost 2 years. I probably wouldn't have written this except that recently I was sent a bill from Kari Ryan Dentistry. The bill was texted to me of a general nature without specifying what it was for. I texted back that my recent visit for the filling was a revision and Dr. Ryan said that I would not be billed or charged for it. I continued to get the bill and so I called and told them the same. I expected it would be taken care of. However, I continued to get texts and bills without any specific information of what it was for, and now it was overdue. I called again and spoke with the manager and asked what it was for and why I kept getting it. She said that it was a bill from my initial crown that they performed 3 YEARS ago and that they had just forgotten to bill it at the time. This made no sense, but I paid it just to get rid of it. The entire staff is friend and competent. I've been receiving excellent care for a year and a half. Dr. Alexe does excellent work. I had crowns and a partial plate done there and had no problems with it. Are you also go every three months for gum care and cleaning? I'd recommend the office to anyone. read more

very expensive will add charges to your bill when you are in the chair. like we charge extra for fluoride, i could have stayed home and just brushed my own teeth or I can pay an extra 50.00 for proper cleaning. If mistakes are made they are not her or the dental hygienist, that is in school fault. Save your money and teeth and seek help with better options. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Kari for several years and have consistently received good service with a friendly staff. I recently had Lois as a dental hygienist and couldn't ask for better! She was efficient, professional and answered all of my questions. This last visit was a bit different in that a sleep questionnaire was offered followed by information about sleep apnea and options for treatment. I want to believe this new service is being offered because of concern for patient care and not to extend profit. The test seems a slightly skewed toward suggesting there may be a problem but I was assured that there was no immediate need, and then given information about sleep apnea for consideration. I personally don't give any credence to a review of a dental office unless the reviewer had a drill in their mouth - anyone can give a 5-star cleaning, but the real test is when restoration work is needed. I'm one of those people who is cursed with bad teeth, and as a result I have a mouth full of fillings. I've had fillings done by probably 8 different dentists over the past 8 years (I've moved around a lot), and without a doubt, Dr. Kari Ryan provided the most pleasant experience I've had to date. Over the course of 2 visits with Dr. Kari, they've done x-rays, a cleaning, a filling, and a crown. Every member of her staff that I've encountered has been so friendly and comforting, including Dr. Kari herself. She sat down with me before my filling and crown procedures and asked me what specific parts I was anxious about, and we talked through the whole procedure and what to expect, which was so comforting for someone like me who gets especially anxious in The Chair. They also provided a pair of sunglasses and headphones, which were connected to a tablet where I got to pick a Pandora station to listen to during the procedure. And she even offered laughing gas for the procedures, which I ultimately declined - but it was nice to know it was an option. One of the things I appreciated the most was that she actually believed me when I told her that I always require 2 injections of lidocaine to achieve full numbness. Most dentists in the past have insisted on doing just 1 and then seeing how it goes, which always ends up with me feeling the drill and yelling in pain. Another huge plus was that they actually have the equipment in-office to make the crowns there, so I didn't have to return for a second appointment to get the permanent crown - it just took about 30 minutes for them to make it there. Very convenient. She sent me home with clear instructions on what to expect in terms of recovery, as well as a follow-up email with even more detailed instructions on what to expect. Great communication! Overall, I am so thrilled to have found a dentist that I can trust and who does excellent work. I'll certainly never *look forward* to going to the dentist, but at least Dr. Kari makes the experience as pain-free as possible :) read more

If you're looking for a great dental practice, look no further - this one is it! I'm just in Mount Pleasant for a few months for work but had been told by dentist back home I needed a crown for a cavity under a filling. I didn't feel comfortable with my current hometown dentist so after reading an article in a MP magazine, decided to have it done while here. I did a little research then made an appointment. Best decision. From the moment I arrived until the moment I left every one was very friendly and helpful. Lindsey and Dr. Alexa (Williamson) were fantastic! Lindsey explained everything thoroughly, took x-rays, pictures and images for CEREC one-day crown. She has a great gentle touch and very personable chairside manner. Dr. Alexa explained her findings and recommendations and then followed through in performing an excellent restoration on a bad situation. Did I mention I had absolutely no discomfort throughout? None! The professionalism, skill and confidence of Dr. Alex and Lindsey put me totally at ease. I definitely recommend this practice. read more

I chipped a piece of an old crown last week which finally pushed me to find a dentist. I really wanted to have the crown done in one appointment. I was able to get an appointment in one week. The staff was great. Friendly, supportive and helpful. The appointment was long but worth it. I was able to watch the crown being made which was very cool. I am very glad to have found a friendly dental practice that is so good at their job. read more

Dr Kari had been my dentist for several years now and thanks to her encouragement and support I even got the braces that I had desperately needed my entire life. Unfortunately, I will be looking for a new care provider. Recently, the office operations have changed and these charges manifest themselves in very subtle ways but the sum effect is that I feel less welcome as a patient. I am only home for a few days every few months and I usually call when I land and they squeeze me into their appointment book. We did this yesterday, making an appointment for less than 24 hours later. I was called by my work and forced to leave early and I called to cancel my appointment and was told that they would be charging me 50 dollars for a late cancellation. I understand the policy, I also understand that my situation is different than most and, quite simply, if you won't with with me I will find someone else who will. Dr. Ryan has been my dentist for several years. As always my recent visit was a positive experience. I was greeted by name by the front desk when i walked in the door. The hygienist was right on time and welcoming. She was very efficient and gentle. She was aware of my past history, and made adjustments. In little time she had cleaned by teeth and made entries on my chart. Dr. Ryan was called in to examine my teeth and check out past work/concerns, but first a little time to make connections.
