I would provide a "zero star" if this were an option. I have filed a complaint as well to the GA medical review board. Avoid visiting this Doctor. His billing practices are unethical at best. He tried to bill my wife for a routing colonoscopy for anyone over age 50 as a medical necssity and not under the normal rules where it is covered under government rules and guidelines. Please see copy of my complaint filed with the GA medical review board below to understand the cruxt of my complaint:
I am filing this complaint against Dr Gani and his lack of ethics in billing for services. I was seen by Dr Gani for scheduling a routine colonoscopy (covered under Obamacare rules over age 50). My primary care physician referred me to this specialist as a professional courtesy. A referral is not required per my insurance company plan through BCBS.
When I saw Dr Gani, my family history was reviewed, as well as the fact that I had a colonoscopy in 2006 (due to my family history). A few days after leaving the office, I was advised to schedule the procedure. Much to my surprise, when I called the
number to call to schedule the procedure, I was informed I would neeed to pay in advance a dollar amount for a procedure that should be covered once I reached age 50 and above. My husband did not agree that this was correct in that they were
telling me I owed in advance due to unmet deductibles with my insurance plan. My husband even called our insurance provider, BCBS, on December 10, 2014. He spoke to Dayna XXXXXXX at BCBS (direct number/line 844-871-0068, ext.XXXXXXX. We were advised this was not correct and the procedure should be covered. I decided to cancel my procedure.
I later recieved a bill for what I consider excessive charges for visiitng a specialist. I went to see the doctor who did my last procedure in 2006 after my husband looked up the information. The new doctor, Dr Early of Medical Associates of north
Georgia. His office bill, prior to my procedure was a "normal" $106.77 per BCBS.
Dr Gani has magically billed an excessive amount for just an office visit for the samd procedure of $265.37 as determined by BCBS.
I beleive Dr Gani has found a way around current governmental laws and escessivley billing patients for office procedures. Furthermore, his refusal to bill the colonoscopy procedure as allowed by law over age 50 shows his willingness to overbill patients by not using the correct billing practices for the appropriate procedure.
I have made several attempts, as well as my insurance company, to correct and dispute these amounts with his office. The attempts have all ended in failure. Dr Gani must be questioned on his ethics and billing practices. I suspect I am not the only
person who has had complaints for his office and practices.
I have now received a collection notice after BCBS spoke to his billing office directly on 2/9/15. The notice arrived on 2/19. The first bill was not recieved until 1/2/15.
I am asking for the medical review board to investigate his practice for unethical billing procedures to insurance and patients.
This is the basic complaint filed to the medical review board. I would advise everyone who reads this post stay away from this practice. Another note, when you call the office for billing and scheduling, you will find the automated answering machine message is very rude. The femaie on the answering machine is a bit aggressive in her statements about calling more than once and leaving a message. She states it will only delay her returning your phone call. I find this rude and offensive for any staff in a customer service arena. read more
