It's been 4 years since I have danced with an instructor. I was struggling with finding a dance studio for adults. When I found Karina's School of Dance and saw her schedule, I thought I'd give it a try! Karina's dance class was great! She is super nice and very motivating! My three year old has started going to ballet classes here and loves it. My only gripe was the total enrollment cost which came out to $90. But after that, it should be around $50 a month. The waiting area for parents is kind of small but the kids all sound like they're having a great time in the studio. read more

I wanted to try out Zumba so I bought a $25 groupon for 10 classes. When I arrived, I had to pay an additional $20 fee. Which is fine because it did state this fee in the groupon. However, each Zumba class is $5 so I saved 50 cents a class... Besides that, the instructor is really nice and talented. The class is really fun and I always leave class sweating. After two classes, my lower back was a little sore. At first, it was kind of hard but you get used to it after a few classes. The class usually has about 10-15 people. read more

My friend and I wanted to try out zumba, so we each bought a zumba groupon. It cost $25, but you also have to pay $20 for registration. This is typical at many dance studios, but it lowers the savings that you think you initially think you're receiving. They only have one class time- 7-7:45 pm. There are usually a small group of people attending the classes. The age of the group varies. I have seen some people stop during class or leave because they were too tired to keep going, but they don't seem too strict about that. Classes are Mon, Tues, and Thursdays. I wish they had more times/days available, but since it's a small studio, it's understandable that they can't offer as many times due to balancing out the schedule for kids classes and private lessons. Overall, it's a fun, no judgment zone where you can zumba it up with your fellow class mates. No exp required! read more

Lady on the phone was very nice and answered all our question. She indicated we can come and visit during a class. When we went there the front desk lady wouldn't let us observe the class. Very irritating, since the class is on a weekday, we had to leave work early. Bad management when you can't have consistent between people that works there. read more

My daughter attended Karinas for 3 months. We chose this school because it was close to our home. In March they informed us they would be moving. I told the receptionist on April 1, the first day at the new location, that the drive was 45 minutes for us and we would see how the month went. She NEVER told me to submit this in writing. They have charged my card UNAUTHORIZED and have refused to return my phone call. I emailed them trying to get some communication and the response email did not address my concerns and they did not show any understanding for the situation. I would not have paid the registration fee if I knew they would be moving. Now i have to pay another registration fee to a new school and the money I have paid them is wasted. I understand contracts but i also know you can have more understanding when you have moved your business location so far. I am extremely upset at the business practices and complete disregard of understanding. read more

My daughter (6.5years) has been attending dance lessons at KSOD for last 6 months. A month ago she had a performance. That was our first opportunity to evaluate and decide whether continue or not. Looking at the choreography we realized that her instructor Ms Karina has really worked hard with kids and in such short time my daughter already learnt couple of moves. Now I have decided to stick with this school. Owner is polite and knows how to motivate young kids. read more

At first I was happy with this school but then after a couple of months I saw that the owners didn't even care about the kids, all they cared about was that they get their money. You would think that after you pay that you and your family would be able to see your child perform but NO! Place is too small and only 2 people per child are allowed. Also, I didn't see improvement in any of the children. Don't bring your child here!!!!! read more

I heard some negative things about Karina's School of Dance but wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. You will be nickel and dimed here, unfortunately. We were charged for an extra month of classes when we had not attended any the previous month. They even bought a coffee maker so they can charge you a couple bucks to drink a cup while you wait for your child in class. Overall, they practice bad/ unfair business. Carefully read their "policy statement" before you sign up. Sadly disappointed ex customer. read more

Meet the Business Owner: Karina G.

Karina Gonzalez is the owner and director of Karina's School of Dance. She has studied ballet, pointe, modern, contemporary, jazz, lyrical, hip-hop, ZUMBA and choreography among many others. Karina began dancing as a child and attended Lopez High School and Fine Arts Academy in Brownsville Texas. She continued her passion for dance at Texas State University in San Marcos TX. While at Texas State, Karina was a dancer on the Harambe Dance Group and Step Team as well as served on the Board of Directors. She was also a member of Orchesis Dance Company, and Phi Sigma Pi National Honor Fraternity. Her dance works were shown in the Texas State Choreographers Showcase and she received the American College Dance Festival Scholarship for her commitment and dedication. Prior to entering the world of entrepreneurship, Mrs. Karina has been the Assistant Director of the Marshall High School Mystics Dance Team in Missouri City, and the Director of the Red Jacket Dance Team at Southside HS.

No, they don't have multiple classes running every hour of the day in multiple studios. But Met Dance has been around for a long time (they're celebrating their 30th anniversary this year) and it is obvious that they are an integral part of Houston's dance heritage. I have never taken a class here where I felt judged by my skill, my body, my outfit, or anything else. All of the instructors I have taken class with (mainly the ballet instructors) are amazing and each have their own unique strengths, so you really cannot go wrong with any or all of them. Roberta is an efficient instructor who runs a solid class; Alisa is great for beginners as she is thorough with breaking down steps; Michelle is kind and encouraging; Dominique is lovely and gives the BEST grand allegro combinations; Pattie is an absolute queen and strikes a great balance between perfecting your technique while also developing you're a artistry. Michelle and Pattie also run pointe classes for adults who are interested in getting on pointe, and all of the instructors I've taken class with are agreeable to me doing barre en pointe since the pointe classes don't fit in my schedule. Most of them are beg or beg/int classes, but the instructors trust you to modify as needed. Last but not least, the community at Met is incredible. The instructors remember your name, your story, and welcome you warmly every time. I'm glad to have found this dance family in Houston :)

Hector, Sarah, & Claudia Vasquez are the instructors. Hector is a straight to the point person, and keeps the class moving on schedule. We were able to knock out a fairly complex dance routine in one hour. I consider the routine upper intermediate considering the speed of the steps required to finish the pattern. If you are new to salsa, this would have been a difficult pattern to figure out. We had time to practice during the lesson with multiple partners. You don't need to bring any dance partner with you, many of the students came solo. The lesson started at 9:30 pm on Tuesday and we finished around 10:30. What I really liked was they started playing music right after and opened the dance floor to practice some more. And they offered wine, crackers, and cheese to socialize & schmooze as well. Nice touch. CultureBeat held a salsa social dance here last night. It's a BYOB with $10 cover, and Although the rain was pouring, people were flocking in. Lots of dance space, and slick dance floor. They played salsa, bachata, and kizomba as well... And again great atmosphere! Worth mentioning, the venue has its own parking lot however, the building is located east of down town in a not so great neighborhood, and that's the only reason I did not give a full 5 stars. Otherwise, as I always say, Viva La Salsa!!

The feedback that…read moreI am getting about Dorian's Creole Soul food, D-Ray Enterprises decorations, Kakes by Karen, VJ's Fruit Displays, Jay Aubrey's Photography, Parties of Elegance photographer, and the Level 1 Band have all been superb!!! My experience with them was pleasant and professional. They exceeded every expectation. Many people were in awe of the venue, "The Studio" where everything was 1st class. However, it grieves me to report that I personally would not recommend the use of this facility. Unfortunately, working with Mr. J.R. was difficult. He consistently over promised and under delivered. He promised all day access to the facility, but eventually said that He wouldn't open it until 5p.m. for my event starting at 6p.m. It took a frustrating conversation to get him to agree to let my caterer, decorater, fruit display coordinator, and cake decorater in to set up from 11 to 1pm, but of course none of the food items could be put out that early. Some professionals were coming from out-of-town, others had to miss church, all had to go to the facility twice, both morning and evening to get it all done. He promised the use of all rooms at the location as a part of the package, and I was able to ultimately use them, however, only after frustrating negotiations about already agreed upon and paid for services. The feedback that I received from the professionals that needed to set-up was also negative concerning Mr. J.R. They reported him to be arrogant, with unreasonable demands, making comments that they found difficult to overlook. He also reportedly made uncomfortable advances towards one of my married guest. The Studio gets a thumbs up, but Mr. J. R. is bad for business. For as long as I have been on Facebook, I don't recall making one negative post, but I felt it my duty to warn.

There is also about 300 less seats here than at the Alley so get your tickets while they last!

I was buying some ballerina attire at Dance Galaxy because my 7 year old daughter had been showing a lot of interest in Ballet. One of the owners recommended Karina's School of Dance because it was right down the road (Galleria area). So right after the purchase was complete we drove over to the dance studio. Upon entering into the lobby, we immediately felt a "positive vibe" from the employees. They were very friendly to us and helpful with explaining each different dance style and level. Even though I had gone to sign her up for ballet, i ended up enrolling her for ballet, jazz, & hip-hop! I couldn't help it! My daughter had gotten excited just by listening to the descriptions! The prices were good to begin with, but in actuality, the more classes you add, the more money you save because each additional class gets a discount. That's why I decided to register for 3 classes instead of 1. Its been about 5 months now and this is definitely our "home studio". My daughter is happy so I'm happy! I don't ever write review (this is my first time) but I wanted to do so because the yelp reviews helped me in choosing a dance studio for my daughter. She is 7 and had been showing some interest in dancing so I searched yelp for suggestions and recommendations in the Houston area. I was pleased with the commentary/ reviews I found under Karina' s School of Dance so we decided to give it a try. They were very nice accommodating my daughter even though we showed up without calling ahead or anything. Once there, the jazz teacher seemed very knowledgeable and after class she suggested a dance level and classes for my girl. (This was her very first formal dance lesson). I was pleased and my daughter was happy to be there so we enrolled. They don't require you to sign up for an entire year, semester, season, etc. so it was a go for me. I hope this helps someone like other reviews helped me, but be careful, because a lot of the reviews I read, where under "filtered" for this as well as other places. I'm not sure why....still happy I found this place. Thank you yelp! read more

Karina's School of Dance is one of the few studios that takes infants as young as two. My little girl is 2 and a half and we had already called five other studios that told us our child was too young to take class, and we would have to wait until she turned three. Then I came across this dance studio and was very happy that they were willing to take my babygirl! Not only that, but their prices are very reasonable. At this point I was willing to pay an outragous amount to any studio that would take my daughter, even if for a private session. However, Karina's School of Dance is not just any studio- they actually take the time to get to know their clients, and the instructor has so much patience with the little ones. Not all adults have the luxury of being able to handle teenagers, let alone infants. My advice to other parents: If you are having trouble finding a studio for your little one because of their age, look no further. Plus, they are in a pretty nuetral/ central location. read more

I have nothing but GOOD to say about this dance studio, the location is great, and the prices are very affordable, even for my budget! I'm 30 years old and have never learned how to dance until about a month ago. My fiancee and I are getting married at the end of the year, which gives me plenty of lessons to take before we tie the knot.. I really needed to know how to move on the dance floor so I wont make a complete fool of myself. Thanks to the help of Karina at Karinas School of Dance, my confidence on the dance floor is at its all time high, I'm starting to get a left and a right foot now and no longer have two left feet! The studio is very private, so I can literally dance like crazy and not feel crazy in front of a bunch of people. So, to any guys out there that don't know how to dance or want to learn a different style of dancing, I highly recommend Karinas School Of Dance and look forward to taking more lessons, see ya there! read more

I dropped of my kids for Karina's School of Dance's weekly "Parents Night Out" and my husband and I went to get some dinner together, and then we went shopping. I absolutely love my children, but it was nice to have some "alone time". It had been awhile since we had gone to dinner on an actual "dinner date" and it was nice to know that the children were having a good time as well, on their own. They got to watch a movie, and also play some dancing games. They got to meet some other kiddos and are looking forward to going again. (I think my husband and I are looking forward to making this a scheduled Friday night event, every Friday!) I wonder if we can pre-pay for the entire month and reserve our spot early? Oh, and by the way, the staff at KSOD is certified in CPR and First Aid. (Always a plus!) read more

I first heard of Karina's School of Dance by Health and fitness magazine. I thought, sure, why wouldn't I give it a try. My top ten reasons to try: 1. Dynamic instructor 2. Instructor IS the owner so she does this out of love for dance 3. ages 2 and infinity can enroll 4. Vast amounts of classes available 5. You get your money's worth. 6. Zumba and the rest of her classes are just fantastic 7. Convenient location 8. multicultural 9 comfortable environment 10. Karina (owner) has multiple years of experience So, I invite everyone to join for class. I usually do not write reviews for places but I firmly believe Karina's School of Dance deserves a chance to be recognized. Believe this when I say it, if I took the time to write a review, it is definately a keeper. read more

Karina's School of Dance is ABSOLUTELY the BEST! Karina not only has danced for years and has a vast experience but she has a degree in Dance from the University. And that allows you to know that you are paying for the best. My daughter loves attending her ballet class. She has a way with children that helps them to stay engaged and learning. She has some very neat ideas, like the Health Fair which had great information.... "Parents Night Out" that is great to get some adult time or do some Galleria Shopping..YEAY! I also attended the ZUMBA class and had a blast! It is so much fun. Karina is so energetic and that is transmitted as she dances and helps us get fit! I LOVE IT! read more

My Daughter 3.5yr old going there from last 8 months and she loving it. she love to dance now,, and they have performance also that build stage confidence in kids at very early age. She love to dance now and show me some steps too...I am very happy with the Instructor she is very nice and cooperative with kids,, when we went for vocation for one month Miss Karina gave her make up classes.. I find it very useful to boost confidence in my Daughter. and adding one more thing that they give some drawings at the end of the class to painting..This is very good dance school. read more

Took my daughter in for dance classes at the beginning of January for a trial class, and we ended up signing up for an entire year worth of classes! the classes are great and each one is for a specific level, age group, etc. But my favorite thing is that dance moms get to take zumba classes for only $5! So what I usually do is take my daughter to dance class and then I just stay for zumba afterwards. Very convenient. read more

My 4 year old daughter has been taking pre-ballet classes since last July, and she has shown a great improvement. Ms. Karina is wonderful and talented ballet teacher, and all her students love her. I got a $ 125 grupon for 3 month classes (2 classes per week) plus registration; it was a great deal. My daughter enjoys coming to class. Excellent Zumba workout! I purchased a Groupon special online for 20 classes at 50% off AND a reduced registration fee! (registration fee is paid when you arrive for your first class.) Good workout group and the instructor makes us sweat! All in all, great deal to take advantage of, and you can continue to take classes even after your pre-paid classes are up. read more

Karina is amazing. My husband and I needed help with our social dancing because our daughter is getting married in December. She gave us some private lessons on dancing that is not even on her schedule. We are so happy that we wont be embarrassed. Also, ZUMBA is great. read more
