Not wanting to take a chance with a 740 mile drive ahead of me, I looked up the highest rated ASE Mechanic in the area and that was Bruce's Auto Repair. Although he was swamped with business, the owner took time to test drive my car and tighten some things up, so I could safely get back home and have my local ASE mechanic check it out. While he didn't charge me despite my protests, I'd say that by the number of cars being repaired or waiting to be repaired his rates are reasonable. I'm back in LA now, but If I still lived in the O'Fallon, IL area, Bruce's Auto Repair would definitely be my mechanic!

I took my car here for an oil change thinking it would be less…read moreexpensive than the local mechanic I usually go to because I had a coupon and got a discount for placing my order online. However it turned out to be significantly more expensive even with the coupon and discount. When I dropped my car off the man working the counter was not friendly at all and did not make me feel welcome. Then, when he called to let me know the oil change was complete, he tried to scam me and lied about things my car "needed" that I knew it did not need. (For context, my check engine light/ABS light/traction control light were all on when I dropped the car off but they were all related to the car needing a new thermostat. I was told this by the local mechanic who explained that dealerships will often make multiple lights come on for 1 problem so people are more likely to get the car inspected. There was nothing wrong with my brakes or the ABS system. I didn't get it fixed then bc I had to buy new brake pads and planned to come back to get the thermostat replaced.) The sales rep at Meineke said I needed a new thermostat (true) and told me the cost of replacement ($200), only he tried to scam me by double charging for the labor, quoting $180 to replace the coolant which needed to be drained to get to the thermostat (false, bc replacing the coolant should be included in the thermostat replacement cost). He also claimed there was a faulty ABS sensor on my tire (false) and quoted me another $450 for it. Altogether I would have been looking at paying over $900. I declined the extra work knowing he was lying and decided I was never coming back there. Later on the local mechanic got the thermostat fixed for $200, didnt charge me extra labor for the coolant bc the cost of it was already included. Confirmed there was nothing wrong with my ABS sensor. Lesson learned to always use local family-owned places instead of corporations who want to scam you. Don't take your car here. Take it to Karius across the street instead. They're much more trustworthy and reliable.

I went to start my car to go to work on Monday morning and it was dead. I called Dobbs, to see if…read morethey could get me in, and had a coworker come give me a jump. I drove straight to Dobbs, and checked in, with my car still running. They tested everything and told me it was my battery and that it would be $380 to replace it. Even though that seems high to me, I was there and needed to get to work, so I had them do it. My car has been running great since then! I was at work by 10am, so they got me in fast. When they replaced the old weights, they slapped new weights on top of the old adhesives. They also did not align the new tires. He was so patient and understanding. All of the employees were working really hard. I was so impressed by their ability to multitask and still provide awesome, high-quality customer service. They apologized for my wait and explained that they were understaffed, but I didn't mind waiting at all because everyone was so nice! I drive an older Volvo, and resetting the oil change maintenance light is sometimes a bit tricky to figure out. Blake attempted to reset mine and said he wasn't sure how, but he immediately took out his phone and looked up a YouTube video to learn. Seriously so courteous!! I told him that I could play around with it when I got home because I didn't want to waste his time, especially while they were so busy. But I'm so grateful for his willingness to help! I also had a $10 off coupon, but Blake said he could give me a slightly better discount to thank me for my patience.
