Taking the Level One class now with my young dog I recently adopted. Classes are once a week in a park and I really like it. All training is using treats for positive reinforcement (lots of treats!). The teacher is available for one on one and various specific issues that you're having with your dog and she's very experienced. Most of the dogs in the class are fairly good, so not sure how it would work with a super aggressive dog or aggression issues, but I'd highly recommend the class. I did puppy kindergarten through Karma which was just the ticket. We went through the seven key commands every puppy should learn, and our Clementine got a chance to socialize with other puppies. She did however still have a little trouble controlling her impulse to nip while playing (as shibas are a very mouthy breed) and insisted on eating all sorts of mysterious objects we encountered on our walks. Because of this we enlisted Holly Lyons for three private training sessions, and the work she did with Clementine was absolutely phenomenal. She made the "leave it" command into a game that Clem loved to play, and showed us how to shift Clementine's focus during her nippy episodes onto appropriate objects to nibble. As a result, we have a wonderfully trained little lady, and when we adopt a companion for her we will definitely be requesting Holly again. Matt is amazing. He did an evaluation with my 14 month old puppy who has been showing resource-guarding / aggression for the past month. He's an energetic dog who needs to run and I don't trust him around other dogs right now, so dog parks are out and it's been stressful. First, Matt is totally chill and someone I was completely comfortable having in my house. Pup loved him too. And then, Matt was straight with me about how much work it will take on my part and time to change puppy's behavior, which I appreciated. He recommended we come to the dog class on Saturdays because I can't afford weekly private training, and supplement with some privates as needed to progress. He also recommended trying a different food and some calming supplements, both of which are easy switches. Most importantly, I felt good and positive when he left. Like this situation was correctable with work and time. Which I'm willing to put in. Conversely, I had a terrible experience with another comany's trainer prior to Matt/Karma, who essentially came over and told me I was doing everything wrong, my puppy had "far too many privileges" and I needed to tether him to furniture until we re-established boundaries. No sleeping on bed, no sitting on furniture, he needed to be retaught his place. That approach was not for me. It's not my vibe and it's not my interest to have a dominated militantly-trained dog. I want him to be relaxed and not aggressive, but I am very happy having him in my bed, on the couch, or wherever he chooses to snuggle. We had an amazing experience with Erik from Karma Dog Training with our 5 month old cavapoo puppy. Erik did personal, at-home training and taught our puppy commands, leash walking, fetching, dropping, and general obedience. My husband and I brought home our [then] 10 week old boxer puppy on a Thursday a couple of weeks ago. We knew we wanted to enroll her in a puppy kindergarten in order to socialize with other puppies and humans before all of her shots were administered. We came across Karma Dog Training online and found nothing but amazing reviews so we signed her right up! We noticed they also offered private training sessions but didn't think we'd need them. How hard could it be raising a puppy, right? Come Monday, we quickly realized how wrong we were. Brie, our pup, immediately panicked when we left for work. She even climbed out of her pen. I frantically emailed Jeff at Karma asking for guidance on what to do with her since we weren't able to take anymore time off work. Jeff got back to me right away and connected us with Roger, who was finishing working with a dog in Texas, in order to complete a five day Happy Home Intensive. Since Roger was unable to start with Brie until that Thursday, Jeff stayed in contact with me all day and made sure that he found a sitter, Elise, to come and stay with Brie that Tuesday and Wednesday. Jeff made us feel like he understood and was sympathetic to our issues and concerns. He let us know that he wouldn't go home until he was able to help us resolve them. Starting on Thursday, Roger came to our home and worked with Brie for five days (not including Saturday and Sunday). They worked on her basic skills (sit, stay, come, leave it, go to bed, etc), potty training and her separation issues. Brie fell in love with Roger immediately and was eager to learn and play with him every day. His demeanor towards her and the way he speaks about past clients shows his true passion for dogs and helping people to foster amazing relationships with their dogs. We initially chose to do the Happy Home Intensive with Roger to focus on Brie's issues with separation, but now see how much more we got out of it. I can't imagine how we, as first time puppy parents, would have been able to translate everything we read on the internet into effective training with Brie. Roger and Karma Dog Training gave us a tool set that we didn't even realize we needed. It's only been a week but Brie already loves to show off all she has learned. We are confident that this foundation will help us to continue to mold Brie into an amazing, well behaved and happy dog. Elise, the sitter that watched Brie before her training, will be coming back to hang out with Brie for a couple more days and I know Brie will be excited to see her again! You can see Elise's love and knowledge of dogs in the way she takes care of them. We feel comfortable knowing Brie is in good hands with Elise while we are at work. We have only been to one class of puppy kindergarten so far so I will update when we have attended more. Creating a relationship with Karma Dog Training is a no-brainer. Lexi came to my house to help train my 1 1/2 year old pup, who is very sweet but VERY excitable and hyper. For the 90 minutes, Lexi worked with me on several techniques to help my dog listen to me, and calm down when there are stimuli that would otherwise get her riled up. Lexi was very patient and calm, and not only did she help my dog, she really taught me a lot of tools that would apply to many situations. It was only one session, but it made a world of difference. Our pug pup Beignet just finished his puppy kindergarten with Mandy Duffey. She was an excellent trainer and teacher for both parents and pups. Class are well structured with learning and play time, the play time was great for the socialization of the pups while they are young. Without puppy class i'm not sure when we would have a chance for Beignet to play with another dog is secure in environment. Learned a lot about pet psychology and how to read your pup's behavior. He has now graduated from puppy class and we are now planning to enroll him in the obedience class. We also intend to have Jessica work with Harrison in private classes. Last year right before Christmas I adopted my pitbull Terry from the East Valley Shelter. He's was a 7 year old owner surrender, very sweet and affectionate. I knew in order to bring him into my house with my other dogs, I needed to make the transition smooth for everyone. After keeping him separate for a couple weeks, and doing everything slow and carefully, he mingled right in and my pack and he accepted eachother with zero problems. I thought I had adopted the most free and easy dog ever! Well, when I took him out for his first walk in the first week I saw a different dog. He was super aggressive and fearful, pulled like crazy, barked and moaned and groaned you name it. After 2 weeks of this I realized I needed help. I researched online for trainers ( I've used a few in the past) that specialize in pitbulls. I found Karma's website and loved what I read about their approach and philosophy about being reward based etc. I called and spoke to Jeff, the founder and I loved this guy from the beginning. He was so supportive of me rescuing Terry and committed to get us the help we needed. He assigned his behaviorist Anastasia to the case and she showed up ready for anything. She gave me a realistic time frame for ironing out Terry's problems and lots of tools and methods for desensitizing him to the outdoors/people/dogs. I felt safe with her and completely trusted her expertise. Terry liked her a lot too! I felt the fee for the training was fair and Anastasia followed up with me by email and made herself available whenever I needed her. She is super sought after, however, so I had to schedule way in advance. I just scheduled Karma to stay here at my house for the holidays. I know I can leave without any worries. These guys are the real deal and want to help and have the insight, experience and training to help with dog behavior issues. read more
