My family and I can't say enough good things about Karma Remodel. Shai & Arnon's hardworking crew demoed our shoebox-sized kitchen down to the studs and transformed it into a gorgeous and functional space that is a joy to cook and entertain in. The job involved knocking down two walls (one weight-bearing), adding support to the attic and under the house, upgrading our electrical panel, replacing a side door, refinishing/expanding our wood floors and constructing a laundry closet for our washer-dryer stack in the hallway to free up more space in the kitchen area. They also added ceiling lights, new counters, tile, sink fixtures and paint. All of our inspections passed with flying colors. Everyone on their team was honest, kind, professional and easy to work with, especially Matias, our foreman; Eno, our electrician; and Michelle, the office manager. We found Shai and Arnon friendly, down-to-earth and helpful. They were also compassionate. When a close relative of ours died unexpectedly, Karma understood our need to postpone work for a week and made a generous donation to our cousins' go-fund-me account. That meant a lot to us. We were so pleased with the quality of their work that we kept adding more to the job: the crew converted our little-used coat closet into a utility closet, refreshed our guest bathroom with new paint and fixtures, painted our kid's bedroom, replaced an exterior door into the garage and took care of my honey-do list. After years of planning and dealing with unreliable contractors, it was a delight to discover Karma Remodel. We lived in our home during most of the construction and felt comfortable with the respectful crew. We are currently on our third project with Karma Remodel and there is a reason we keep coming back! Shai, Arnie and Michelle are fully committed to making our project perfect. The first job we did with Karma was a garage conversion to an ADU plus addition. This was during the pandemic and considering the circumstances and lead times, this project was a breeze. Next, we upgraded parts of our current house including a bathroom remodel, replacing all windows and doors, adding siding and full exterior paint. Arnon's team was excellent. We needed a valuation or work and consulted with Shai about a construction remodel that was done without a permit by another contractor. Shai was extremely informative, thorough and observant throughout the evaluation. He produced a well-written report later that same day, that was complete and even-handed. I've been confused for over two years how and why they have such strong reviews. We used them in the past, are currently doing a huge remodel and I would never rehire them. My friends who referred Karma to us would also not. - Shai, the owner was nice when we first met him; seemed trustworthy and likable. As soon as work begun, arrogance and smugness replaced that. Here's one example: I was 6 months pregnant. Shai is in my house regularly telling me how "weird" our designs were. Pics attached- not weird or niche in anyway; have received many compliments from others. Just a standard bathroom. Imagine being pregnant (feeling terrible) with a man in your home and personal space consistently telling you how weird you are. For this reason alone, I would never recommend him. - Arnon (Arnie), the foreman: this man has no boundaries and doesn't understand boundaries, for this reason I do not recommend him. When Arnon first came over, Shai never told us he was our foreman. He was an old friend of Shai's who I thought was coming to look at the project. I was glad to never see him again as he is rough around the edges, lacks social skills and stinks of cigarette smoke. Then we learn he is our foreman only because he starts showing up in our house everyday. If you need someone in your home who can read social cues, communicate and have boundaries, this guy is not for you. Examples: - Left the country for two weeks at the height of the project and didn't tell us. After a week of not returning messages, I asked Shai if he was okay, and Shai told us he had gone on vacation for two weeks. - Would show up every morning at 8:50 when I was walking out the door to get my daughter to school and bombard me with the questions, make me go back in the house to discuss things. It was very clear I was trying to get my daughter to school on time everyday. He never understood this and my daughter was constantly late to school- constantly- because he "had to know things right away." Why didn't ask me the night before, or wait 30 minutes until I was home? This added a lot of chaos to our lives. - Being pregnant and going through renovations, I made a room for all baby items to be kept sterile. I blocked this area off to protect it and workers were not allowed in. One day Arnon follows me in there (again, poor boundaries, lack of reading social cues). He wreaks of cigarette smoke, which he will bring into your house when he works. I'm doing every social cue to signal to him to get out of the room. Since he lacks reading social cues, I finally just leave the room to get him to follow me out. I text that night to remind him that I don't want him going in there and he denies going in there. One example of how hard it was to communicate with him. - Michelle- runs the admin. The last time we worked with Michelle (to have someone come back to fix many errors from the work), every interaction was error after error- adding so much stress. One example out of many: asked her to have Arnon stop bombarding me with questions while I am walking out of the house to get my daughter to school. She understands, tells him not to. Instead, she does it herself by text that morning. I have a long list of other examples that made doing the admin with her very challenging. If you need it easy and handled, this is not your girl. Without writing a long laundry list of things, here is what I texted Shai: Hi Shai, do with this what you want- I want to give you feedback that I think you need to know. Michelle is very nice, but makes mistakes constantly and has terrible communication. It's very very very hard working with her. In fact, I don't think we will use Karma Remodelers again because of all of her errors and communication issues- it's constant! I'm sharing this because I imagine that other clients have been affected and you may be losing business. If it were me, I would not have her work for the company. Again, she is very nice, she's just isn't really thinking or acting clearly. -Paint job- I would never recommend their painter. We have so many holes in our paint, painter's tape they put up on our wall and just painted over (and left so it's totally uneven), and uneven lines. Even with Arnon coming back to try to fix some of them after the job was done, there are still many errors I find all the time. With all of that, their prices are on the high end. Mateo, the lead construction worker is a gem and does amazing work. Find a way to just hire him as a contractor on your own to avoid the company. read more

I've had some bad experiences in the past with poor contractors so I had been putting off this remodel for a long time due to fear and anxiety. I finely mustered up the courage to make the first phone call to Shai at Karma R&D after doing some basic research. After my initial phone conversation with him, I had a good impression. Shai was very attentive, polite, and considerate and we scheduled a day for him to see the house. At his first visit, he came and took a look at the house, listened to what I was looking for in the remodel, and then quickly drafted a design on his laptop with his vision of how he could make our kitchen more beautiful, but also more functional and open. By the end of the first visit, he had already made an itemized list of what needed to be done with a timeline. After having lots of input into the remodeling of our kitchen, we chose to have Shai at Karma Construction lead the project. Because it can be hard to visualize, Shai took the time to create a computerized mock up to assist us in making some of the larger decisions particularly in the layout of our kitchen remodel. They remodeled a master bathroom in a high end house to turn it into a showcase. I will try to post a photo here. We hired Karma 10 months ago for several major outdoor upgrades to our aging home. Either Uzi or Arnon was there almost everyday to monitor the project which was piece of mind for us since we both work during the day. They were great about always contacting us to make decisions along the way. First, they replaced the entire front and side walkways and driveway with beautiful tumbled pavers. The paver crew was super nice, friendly and came everyday, even in the scorching sun, until the job was finished. We had never seen pavers like the ones we chose, which is what we wanted (not to look like everyone else's on our street). Our pavers are larger, thicker and more substantial looking. Karma also recommended we widen our walkways, which makes a bigger statement from the street. As the project developed, we made some changes and Karma was very accommodating. We couldn't be happier. They look fantastic! Next, they retiled our 35,000 gallon pool and spa and resurfaced it with mini pebbles. We were concerned about the texture being rough on the feet and clothes, but they assured me we would like it. They were right! Not only is it stunningly beautiful, with a rich, deep color, but it feels smooth and pleasing. During this project, Karma recommended we repipe most of the pool and spa and upgrade our pool equipment, which was on its last legs. We were a little hesitant because it wasn't in our original plan, but we decided to go for it. We now have the latest and greatest lights, pool heater, filter, cleaner, pumps and controller, all controlled through a remote or, if we choose, though an app on our phones. We couldn't be happier and the heating time for both the pool and spa has been drastically reduced and is more environmentally friendly and cost efficient for us. Additionally, Arnon recommended we get an automatic water placement system. At the time we felt it was an extra item we didn't really need, but now that we have used it for 10 months, we have NOT ONCE had to add water to the pool. Another great recommendation from Karma!! The true test of a good contractor is when time has passed, and you call them for any issues that have come up. That happened to us. It was a small issue, and when we called them about it, Arnon and Shai reacted immediately and fixed the issue within 2 days. We are so impressed with Karma's commitment to their customer, even 10 months later. We needed a complete remodel of an old and dated bathroom and contacted Karma Remodel at the recommendation of a neighbor. Shai was very professional, helpful, and extremely responsive throughout the whole process. We've been in our house for a year and decided to move forward with remodeling our main bathroom. I initially looked at another contractor that told me it would be 2 to 3 times my budget because we had tile wainscoting and they would need to rip the wall down to the studs to complete the remodel. That seemed excessive so I went through Yelp and found a couple of other licensed contractors and Karma was the first to call me back. Shai came out within the next day or so and we discussed our plans. We discussed budget and then he sat down, drew out as discussed and gave me a quote that was almost within budget (10% higher, compared to 250% overage with initial company) and did not include taking down all of the dry wall. One caveat was that I needed to purchase all materials, which was great as it gave me the control to really pick out what I wanted. We just completed our main bathroom remodel and we could not be happier with the outcome. The room looks so light and bright and just plain pretty. Construction is not fun, especially during the past month when it has rained more days than not (in LA that is an amazing thing!) but their team was great. Overall, Shai and Arnon and team did wonderful work from the initial visit through the last day. We LOVE our new bathroom. read more

My hesitation stemmed from hearing horror stories about contractors' misdeeds and the disruption of life in the house during the construction. When I was finally at the point of going ahead with the remodel, I had Shai Reb come out and give us his input. My wife and I were both impressed with Shai's confidence and go-at-it attitude. Based upon that meeting, we decided to go ahead with the remodel. Shai and then Arnaud did not disappoint. We had a terrific experience working with them. Arnaud can do anything and he does it all with meticulousness and integrity. Arnaud was around a great deal of the time and was always responsive to questions, concerns, etc. Then there is the Karma crew. Incredibly capable guys but always happy, cheerful, courteous and neat. They never left the house after a day of work without thoroughly cleaning up. The kitchen turned out beautifully and exceeded my expectations. I have so much confidence in Arnaud's abilities that I have begun to think of other projects in the house, things that I would not have contemplated before. I had heard of frequent "change orders" with contractors where the cost of the project, initially agreed upon, would be increased due to "unanticipated" problems. That never occurred with Shai and there were definitely some unanticipated problems that were encountered. All I can say is that Shai and Arnaud, as a team, are as good as they come. read more

Awesome, easy and reliable. I've redone much of my house and used many contractors over time. Shai is amazing. I will use him going forward and have already referred him to friends. It usually takes me years between projects because they are so painful. Dealing with contractors, always feeling like you are being taken advantage of, the mess. Shai is the none of those things. He is: - Super easy to work with - Reasonable - Partners with you to develop a clear list of what you need before he starts to make it smooth - Started on time. His crews were always there on time. - Clean. His crews were clean...even in the middle of construction. They cleaned up every day. - Has great suggestions. All make sense. Make the project better. Easy to talk things through with. - When invariable issues came up he dealt with them gracefully without serious setbacks. He let me know anything additional I needed to get several days in advance so I wasn't scrambling at the last minute. - Any changes which were mine were quoted at a VERY reasonable cost. Here is were most contractors know you are over a barrel and charge an inflated price. Shai is not one of those. All add ons extremely reasonable, even less than bringing someone in independently since his crew was already there. - Clearly communicates what is happening. Where you are in the project and what's next. - Answers calls and texts promptly. Ok, I just realized I've been through all of this and haven't even talked about his crew's work. Amazing. Detailed. Clean lines. From my point of view they treat it like they are working on their own house. The even think of the little details. I'd name them but there are too many to name to even start. One last thing. I'm crazy busy at work. My day is non-stop from the time I get in the car to the time I get hojme. I can't tell you how nice it was knowing I didn't have to worry about anything. Didn't have to worry about what was happening at the house. Was it being done right. I wan't being screwed. None of those. I already have a list of projects I want Shai to work on. I just have to finish my own design work before I have him begin. Honestly, and I never thought I would say this about working with a contractor, I can't wait to work on them. We had a condo remodel that included new cabinets in the kitchen, master bath, and guest bath with new quartz counter tops, faucets, sinks, mirrors, and lights. Also painting and electrical work. The entire project cost less than we had budgeted and completed faster than we expected. Our main concern was not being there to oversee the work. We live out in La Quinta and relied on the expertise of Shai, Ari, and their crew. They kept us updated on their progress and sent pictures as each stage was completed.
