    Before - bathroom

We've lived in our house for eight years, and this was our first big remodel--kitchen, bathroom, and laundry room--so we were nervous going in. But working with Pearl Remodeling, and especially our contractor Avi, made the experience not only manageable but genuinely positive. From the start, Avi was professional, responsive, and clearly experienced. He helped guide us through the entire process, and I always felt like we were in good hands. The team was efficient, kept us in the loop with regular updates, and delivered results that matched exactly what we envisioned. Like any renovation, there were a few bumps along the way--some rain that delayed drying times for the primer and paint, and a delay from the custom cabinet maker due to material shortages--but nothing that felt unmanageable. What impressed me most was how Avi handled those inevitable hiccups. He was always communicating, offering solutions, and shifting timelines to keep the project moving forward however he could. Now that it's done, I can say I'm extremely happy with how everything turned out. The kitchen is beautiful, the bathroom feels like a spa, and the laundry room is better than I imagined (never thought I'd say that about a laundry room!). I would absolutely work with Pearl Remodeling again, and I've already recommended them to friends and family. If you're considering a remodel and want a team that's trustworthy, communicative, and delivers great work--ask for Avi.

I just completed a whole house remodeling project with Pearl Remodeling and I am very much impressed by the quality and efficiency of their work as well as the great team that I've worked with. Gal G was my Project Manager and I have nothing but fantastic feedback about him. Gal is on top of everything. He's very responsive which is always my top priority when selecting a PM. I appreciate Gal's positivity through the project that he always focuses on solutions when we encounter hurdles and setbacks. This positive mindset is crucial for any remodeling project with all kinds of moving targets to deal with. The rest of the crew were all very professional and a pleasure to work with- particularly Kevin and George who pay close attention to details and quality of the job at each critical path of the project. Pearl also selects first-class subcontractors i.e. electrician and plumber who delivered outstanding results. I highly recommend Pearl Remodeling. They've made my first major remodel project a great experience.

We decided to go with Pearl after seeing the work they were doing for a friend who was in the middle of a kitchen remodel themselves. ------------------------------------------ 1) A little background: We've lived in our house for 11 years and updating our kitchen has been on our mind for bit, but we decided to wait due to the pandemic. Our kitchen remodel wasn't a complete redesign. We didn't move any walls or re-configure the layout. Our goal was to basically update the old and bring in the new. Our house originally came with a 2007 era IKEA kitchen that was red - a lot of red. The countertops were butcher block that were already in rough shape when we purchased the home. ------------------------------------------ 2) The plan: I'm a graphic designer and illustrator so I was able to mock up what we wanted things to look like by drawing over a photo I took of our existing kitchen. This was a huge help for us to visualize what the end result should look like. We basically wanted to replace our existing IKEA kitchen with a new IKEA kitchen. ------------------------------------------ 3) What we hired Pearl for: * Demolition of the old kitchen * Bringing electrical and plumbing up to code (of which there was a LOT of updating to do). * Installing a new 3/4 natural gas line * Routing a new trench in our concrete floor to run the correct kind of water line to our fridge. * Tile work (both floor and backplash). We went with cement tile from Zia Tile which required extra care during installation and additional steps post install involving multiple coats of sealant and a special wax. My wife and I opted to seal the tiles ourselves so we could take our time. * Drywall repair, baseboards, painting, finish plumbing Pearl was not hired to: * Design our new kitchen * Source any materials for the kitchen. My wife and I sourced everything and had all the materials on-hand for Pearl down to the tile edging and floor transition strips. * Install our new IKEA kitchen * Install any appliances (they don't install appliances for liability reasons) * Install countertops. I made arrangements with another business on my own. ------------------------------------------ 4) Contractor review: * Ben: He was my main contact from start to finish. Overall, I was really happy with my experience working with him. Communication: 4 of 5 stars He's running multiple jobs at once and getting a hold of him was sometimes immediate, and sometimes there was a delay. It's just the nature of the business. What I can say is that he always got back to me when it was critical. I never got frustrated or upset at my inability to reach him. * Ramon: The main foreman for my job. He handled the demolition, drywall repair, tile, and any other finish work that was required. Ramon always showed up on time when he was supposed to barring a few instances here and there where things were delayed a day or two due to unforeseen circumstances at another job site. Acceptable in my book. GOOD: * I felt that Ben, his foreman Ramon, and his sub contractors (plumber, electrician) listened to my concerns when they came up and addressed them. I never once felt like they made me feel like I was in the wrong. ISSUES: The two workmanship issues (not unexpected costs) that came up all were both related to the tile work. Thankfully these were all remedied. 1. FLOOR: Our floor tile has clear geometric pattern and when you have a geometric design it needs to be straight. When the floor tile was being laid, I came out to inspect progress. At the time they were about 20 tiles in when I noticed the design was veering left a small amount which would have ruined the design if left unchecked. I immediately let Ramon and his second tile worker know and they fixed it immediately. Had I not been home or if this was a remote project, this would have been catastrophic if the thinset was allowed to cure. Prior to installation, I provided Ramon detailed illustrated diagrams showing how the tile should be arranged and in what direction. Is this kind of step overkill? In most cases, yes, but I wanted everything to be on the record and left nothing to be assumed. We only get one shot at the floor. 2. BACKSPLASH: The stove/sink side of the backsplash had to be removed and re-done because a few of the tile sheets were installed in the wrong direction. This threw off the entire pattern in a cascading fashion. While a shocking discovery at first, Ramon took care of the problem immediately by removing the tile he had unfortunately just laid the following morning. We had to purchase replacement tile, but Ben credited us for the materials. No fault was placed on me and Ramon owned up to the mistake. -------------- Overall, I'm satisfied with my experience with Pearl. A kitchen remodel is something you do maybe once in your lifetime and I'm happy that it's finished now.

Truthfully, no one came close to the knowledge, honesty, and thoroughness of Solomon and the Sunshine team. What stood out most was that they never tried to oversell me. They were straightforward about what needed to be done and what didn't. The dirt removal ended up taking about twice as long as originally estimated (not their fault - there was was just way more dirt than was viable), but they still did not hit me with a change order. Finding a contractor that is honest, communicative, and actually sticks to their word feels almost impossible, but Sunshine did exactly that. I also asked them to move the start date up by two weeks because of our move-in timeline, which was a huge ask. My husband and I knew we should get earthquake insurance but the cost blew our minds but when we heard that you can get a 25% discount if you complete the retrofit, we explored what it would entail. Well the EBB subsidy which came out to $3,000 was a huge motivator. Selection: To select a company to work with I went overboard reading reviews, not just looking at ratings- Yelp, Google, Angi, Houzz. Plus, I always look at Next Door because our city is finicky so I wanted to see which companies had delivered excellent experiences for homeowners in our city and lastly I look at Reddit. I invited 3 highly rated companies with excellent track records to provide quotes based on the work required. Out if the 3, two came, went into our crawl space and provided a detailed breakdown of the necessary work and cost with photos. The third company provided a quote over Yelp without coming in person to do a visual inspection. So they were eliminated from consideration. The remaining two which included Sunshine were excellent and after putting together a side by side comparison of the work and costs along with their answers to some initial and follow up questions from my husband ( who was a 35 yr construction industry executive), we selected Sunshine and specifically Adam who was the lead that came to our house and who provided detailed and technical responses that instilled so much confidence. EBB approval: Well from there, it was like we had a retrofit concierge with Diana guiding me through every step which is necessary because there are things that need to be done on the EBB website to ensure compliance to receive approval and given Sunshine's vast experience, they have it down to a science which eliminates a ton of confusion I am sure I would have had to face without them. The retrofit work: The team was on time, had detailed instructions, and worked diligently the entire time they were here and they provided photos of their work. And a bonus was I didn't have any clean up to do afterwards. I need to note that out of an abundance of caution Adam ( who is also a licensed electrician) came back out to take care of a wire that looked suspicious but was probably not an issue. If he had not mentioned it, we would not have known City inspection and approval: A breeze! The gentleman that dealt with the city came by after to give us the good news and it was apparent he was trusted by the city inspector. Retrofit completion certificate Diana expeditiously provided the certificate i needed to provide my insurance broker to get quotes after instructing me on how to complete the final EBB steps Success! We now have earthquake insurance and saved 25% off the premium. Side note: get your quote from GeoVera and not the Earthquake Authority. our quote for better coverage by a more highly rated company saved $1,500 in annual premiums So, for a project that seemingly would have been a bear, it was probably the easiest construction like project and process I could have imagined that gives us added confidence in protecting our home. Do it and include Sunshine in your short list. you will be happy you did.
