I was a patient at the UW Rehab Hospital for 7 days. I found the physical and occupational…read moretherapists there to be not only pleasant and helpful but game-changers in my life. They were extraordinarily knowledgeable about things I needed help with, some of which I didn't even realize I had problems with. I am in much better shape after seeing them than I would have been, Be aware though, it is 3 hours a day of sometimes hard work, and its 6 days a week. The nursing and support staff were with rare exceptions very good to excellent. I was a difficult patient, even so, they treated me with kindness and respect as they laid down the law. Over time it appeared to me that the nurses and support staff needed more help. I'm no expert and no one ever said anything remotely close to the floor needing more staff. I may be thinking incorrectly since I was on the bone marrow transplant floor at the UW Hospital where you are almost swarmed by nurses at times. I have had a lot of experience with hospital food lately. (I have been in either St. Mary's or UW Hospital for 2+ months recently. BTW, from my perspective the food at St. Mary's was very good.) The food at the Rehab Hospital, by my simple standards, was good to very good. They achieved this by having a very limited menu. Speaking of limited menus, while I was at the rehab hospital the TV menu of stations was like nothing I had seen before. Let's just say the big dogs in the world of station numbering got no respect. With no obvious logic to the TV menu, it was hard to find stations. Also, the menu was on plain paper and easy to destroy or lose. If you are a liberal this may bother you. While the selection of cable news networks included Fox News, it did not include MSNBC. I questioned how that could be and received no response. I did eventually learn that listening to TV's while walking the halls indicated that many people were watching FOX News, Finally, you should be aware that the UW Health Rehabilitation Hospital is owned in its entirety by, and its employees are employees of, Kindred Healthcare. Kindred is [from their wesite] "the largest diversified provider of post-acute care services in the world ... with more than 102000 employees." As I said above I was happy with the service that I received (even during a, not discussed, period of ruptured pipes). I hope this helps you to make your own decisions.

Do not take your loved one here! My mother was in the memory care unit due to short term hospital…read moredelirium. She was supposed to have been placed in rehab. Little to no rehab occurred. Poor care - she waited for 60 minutes at times for support using the bathroom. Resulted in soiling herself which she hated. Soiled bedding was covered up with clean bedding rather than removed. Food was poor. Not uncommonly other residents were hollering for help when we were visiting mom. We actively looked for someone to help our mom and other residents. My mom ended up back in the hospital because of this place and the poor care. Following this second hospitalization, we insisted on a different facility. We refused to send her back. This place caused my mom to decline physically and mentally. She rebounded quickly after we moved her to a better facility.

Understaffed and overwhelmed. The front door of the facility has been left open for the past 2…read moredays, allowing anyone to walk in without any COVID screening and wander the halls where residents live. Meals delivered to residents in Styrofoam to go containers and zapped in a microwave. The tiny tables used in the dining areas don't provide enough legroom or space for the wheelchairs to fit comfortably. Residents who are no longer capable of eating are still brought down to meals, only to sit for the duration of the service at a table with others who are uncomfortable with the situation. Limited social activities, many of which take place in a separate building. This requires the limited staff to push the residents (in wheelchairs) across the street and back. There are many cozy looking corner rooms with furniture that nobody uses. Add more activities to encourage the residents to come out of their rooms. Welcome new residents with meet and greets. I've been to other facilities where there was more active socializing taking place on every floor. Did we choose the wrong building? If you have family members here, GET INVOLVED. Spend some time with the residents. To the owners of these facilities: build larger elevators. Build units with larger doors. Bring in some volunteers from the community and pay your staff better. I'm having a tough time seeing what we're getting for this $7500/month and already looking at other options. The pictures on yelp make me laugh. Most residents are in wheelchairs, so these pictures of chairs around tables aren't the reality. And people in wheelchairs aren't going to be lounging on any of this furniture
