I'm astounded by the 5 star reviews. While still sitting in the waiting room 30 minutes past my appointment time, I remembered that I was going to find another optometrist after my last visit for an eye exam since they couldn't keep their appointment time that time around either. This time it took 85 minutes to see the doctor for simple eye exam for glasses. The actual eye exam took about 6 minutes. I can't think of any reason to come back here other than forgetfulness. Easy to locate, parking lot has plenty of open spots. Lobby is beautiful. Plenty of clean chairs in the waiting room. The whole office is decorated nicely and lends to a relaxed environment. My husband saw Dr. Shane and I saw Dr. Michelle. Both were friendly and conversational. Michelle gave me great tips on dry eyes and recommended contacts that were good for people like me who deal with allergies and dry eyes. Very happy! To speed things up fill out paperwork online. VSP insurance is taken. The selection on glasses for women is fantastic. The selection for men is solid but limited. We arrived at 9:50 and left at 11:50. This mainly had to do with us talking to everyone Such a friendly staff. We loved Sarah. She took great care of us and explained prices and various options on glasses very well. read more

Dr. Shane saved my vision! We have been dealing with inflammation in both of my eyes for over 2 years and today I went for a recheck after having a stint and lens put in my left eye and was told I almost have 20/20 vision in that eye! Never in my life have in had that type of vision before. He wrote me a letter to be admitted into the hospital at UT so I could get in with a rheumatologist sooner and it worked!! The wait and need for a rheumatologist was going on 2 years! At the time I was pretty much blind. I will never see another eye doctor after Dr. Shane! He is my angel literally! I had gone here five years ago but had been working out of state, so I got my care elsewhere. I initially had chosen them then based on recommendations from friends. I started having some vision issues. My Lasix surgery needed to be updated, but the ophthalmologist recommended I wait. Well, I still needed to correct my problems. I went to a local optometrist, and it was "ok," but I left feeling like there weren't listening. So I went back two more times and still wasn't satisfied. I didn't think the prescription was correct. The contacts didn't fit great but were tolerable. In all fairness, I thought this was related to my past Lasix surgery. I had worn contacts for years before surgery, and they fit perfectly. However, I just wasn't satisfied and didn't feel like that optometrist would listen. I should mention that it all starts with the office staff; if they're rude, the entire experience is terrible. In this case, everyone was very accommodating and pleasant. Finally, I made an appointment here. Initially, I didn't say anything about my previous experience because I didn't want to affect the experience. I wanted to see how the staff and doctor would typically treat a patient. But, at some point, I did tell the doctor what I had been going through and my concerns. Anyway, the doctor was very accommodating and drove down and dialed in a better prescription. The prescription was reasonably different then what I was using. There was a noticeable difference in the fit of the new contacts. They were immediately more comfortable and fit perfectly. I left with a new prescription, a plan to adjust the prescription if needed, and some perfectly fitting contacts. read more

I am in a tight spot right now, since I had cataract surgery on Jan. 25th and the other eye is scheduled for Feb. 8. Because the change is so drastic, I could not continue to use my old glasses and had no way to see to drive or otherwise function in the meantime. Dr. Shane understood my panic and got me a pair of glasses to use in the interim so I can still function. He also volunteered one of his staff members to take me to the next surgery (and wait with me) in case I could not find someone else to take me. For years my family has gone to Karns Vision and were pleased with routine appointments. Unfortunately, I will never use them again after an emergency situation they neglected. My under 25 year old daughter started having double vision so I called Karns Vision to get her an appointment. They were quick to get her in, but said she had a flash burn and put her on steroid drops. They ignored her comments regarding the fact that she could see fine if looking with one eye, but when focusing using both eyes she had double vision. They told her to use the drops for 10 days and then call them back if needed. Everything online said in the case of flash burns you should come back in 48 hrs. after initial appt. for a follow up (nothing said to wait 10 days), but we were hopeful. After 10+ days, her vision was getting worse. So I placed an emergency; after hours, call to Dr. Michelle on Friday of a holiday weekend. I NEVER got a call back. So on Monday, I called again and expressed my concern and my frustration. I said if you cannot handle this diagnosis, we can go elsewhere. Dr. Michelle never got on the phone to ask questions, etc., the front desk came back on the line to basically say going elsewhere was probably best. So I immediately called an ophthalmologist and they were alarmed by the details provided (as well as the waiting 10 days not 48 hours) and they got her in the next day. Once they examined her eyes, they immediately sent her to the ER for an emergency MRI. They could see muscle swelling behind the eyes (using the same machine all eye offices have) and they wanted to rule out MS. She spent several hours at the emergency room to find out there were lesions on her brain and it looked likely that she in fact had MS. She has now been diagnosed with MS after a lumbar puncture. We would not have known this if we had kept going to Karns Vision, and that is scary to me. We wasted 10 days hoping the steroid drops would work, when in fact she did not have an active flash wound at all. Now we have to wait for over a month to get in to see a Neurologist. The 10 days spent using steroid drops have delayed her MS treatment and that is upsetting. I am making this comment because it is important to share with others - if you think something major is going on and you need something other than glasses, contacts or have pink eye, you may want to consider going elsewhere! read more
