So, I don't think I'll be visiting him any time soon. Since moving here to East Tennessee ten years ago, I've had two eye doctors but neither really did it for me. I was without insurance for two years, and so when I got new insurance, I began my search. I wanted an established practice with a great reputation that was nearby. My search included Hardin Valley Eye Care and because it was nearest to my house, I made an appointment. The minute I walked into the office, I was encouraged. COVID protocols are still being practiced - 1st star; reception and staff were super friendly - 2nd star; I was seen at my appointment time instead of waiting around like other offices - 3rd star; When I met Dr. Travis Thompson, the deal was sealed - 4th star; and they have a large selection of frames - 5th star. I could go on with more stars, but they've already secured my business for years to come. I picked up my glasses today and I haven't seen with such clarity since my eye doctor in California. They are IN NETWORK on my insurance. They charged me $45 that day, and today I received a bill for $150 more to be paid. The total charge for a standard eye exam for contact lenses was $483.00!!!!!! FOUR HUNDRED EIGHTY THREE!!! I have a $10 co-pay on an eye exam. And they have billed me $195. Thank goodness my insurance covered some of the charges. I can't imagine if I didn't have coverage! I must return to pick up my contacts and hopefully the new ones are correct. I can't imagine what I will be charged if I need an adjusted prescription! Once I am all set with contacts I will NEVER use this group again. My husband has also been a patient of this group in the past but will find a new provider for his exam this year. Dr. Cunningham did cataract surgery on my left eye. That didn't work for me so I had to have Lasix…read moresurgery. Dr. Cunningham and 2 ladies came in the surgery room, Dr. Cunningham let on of the women do the Lasix surgery ended up getting a very bad infection in it so I had to go to the Dr every 3 days to see if it was getting well. not happy at all with what has transpired here with my surgery. went in for a lens replacement and…read moreended up with a bad outcome. the wait times are never less than 3 hours each time. I went in with 20/20 vision and came out with 20/400 and a paralyzed iris. communications are terrible and nothing is explained in any detail at all. I had a 8OD lens in previous and came out with a 18 OD. no visual correction at all. the nerve block which was never discussed left my pupil paralyzed with no fix for that. nothing was double checked with me before or during the surgery at all. There is no dialogue from anyone at any time through the process and unless you know the questions to ask, nothing is explained to satisfaction. the correct lens would at least made this less scary and disappointing. not acceptable.
