The designers and engineers and installers were incredibly knowledgeable, and they knew how to work with my local town to get permits and everything. The app is great too. Very happy and significantly reduced our energy bill. If the Trump Administration hadn't eliminated the Inflation Reduction Act, I was ready to install an even larger array. Installation was fine...we had an issue that was caused by squirrels getting underneath the panels that cost us an additional $10,000.00 to repair. We monitor our usage through Solar Edge, but that is not working. Have sent emails to company owner- NO RESPONSE...called several numbers to ask about Solar edge monignoring- NO RESPONSE- was switched around to numbers thst rang off the hook- NO RESPONSE.....the customer service contacts have been made over the past couple of months. The person we had dealt with for years apparently left, and we have not been able to talk to anyone . So, customer service stinks! Be careful! read more

Kasselman was very good at explaining how the system worked and did an excellent job of installing the panels. They were prompt and completed the project in a day. But about a year later one of the panels failed. After four phone calls where I left messages they finally got back to me and told me it would be four months before they could repair the system. Four months! This company is great at selling you the product but terrible at servicing it when things go wrong. They told me if I went to someone else to repair it it would void the warranty. We have nothing but good things to say about our dealings with Kasselman Solar. We had a solar system installed with 10 panels. The person who gave us our quote was knowledgeable and experienced, treated us like adults, and didn't try to sell us more solar panels than we needed. I had done my research beforehand and the quote was right on the mark. They also included an electrical panel upgrade, which we needed, and was smart because since it's included as part of a solar install, it qualifies for the same tax credits. The install was basically done in one day plus an hour or two, solar panels, electrical panels and all. After the third party inspection and meter replacement by the power company, we were up in running about 8 days after the install. So far, so good. The panels are producing more power than we need (see attached chart) which is good because we will have to bank credits to use in the summer. The only thing is that we weren't warned that the power would be down fora few hours because of the electrical panel upgrade. But that is such a "duh" thing I should've realized on my own, I am not deducting a star because of it. read more

Biggest REGRET relative to our home that we have been gradually updating. 4/2/23 - this review is being edited based upon the owner's BS response to my initial review. I could tell you how sleazy I found this company to be, or what a nightmare the entire project is, but I'll just provide the facts based off of my emails to the owner which were never replied to. Funny how he responds when it's made public (case in point as to sleazy?). Funny how they are so quick to show up with the sale but then disappear without constant prodding. Aug 26, 2021 - email to company owner, Steve Kasselman: I am quite concerned about the installation of the solar panels on our home due to the continued unprofessional behavior of your company employees. I emailed the following to Alex (our supposed project manager) on August 19th but never received a response from him: The gentlemen that were here today need to come back because, how I understand it, they weren't provided the tools in order to finish the job. I would like to know why they weren't provided with the materials they needed for the three lines coming from my roof, rather than two. I would also like to know why I wasn't told that I would be without power for 6-7 hours, more than a day in advance. I had just filled my freezer with frozen specialty foods which I now don't trust. I had a tooth pulled yesterday else I would have bought ice and prepped the food in order to save it - if I had been told going in that the power would be off for such an extended period of time, I would have also made plans to ensure that I didn't lose an entire day of work. Awaiting your response. My email to Alex was after my call to him get his his staff to stop shouting obscenities from my roof, which my neighbors could also undoubtedly hear. I was very embarrassed to have to yell up to grown men to cease the loud usage of the f word, etc. The inspector came today and told me that he will advise your company that there are loose wires that are freely hanging from the solar panels. Why are there loose wires? What else is loose up there? I can't possibly get on my roof to look and wouldn't know what I was looking at anyhow. When will the wires be fixed? I complained to Jay the last day that he was here that the way my downstairs kitchenette was left after their "handy-work" in installing new wiring and panel was inexcusable. See attached photos [showing gouges in my walls, etc.]. His response was that he isn't a taper, and that he would tell the company about it but I have heard from no one. Who is going to come and fix my wall??? We have put over $150k in this house in improvements the past two years and refuse to allow this damage to sit. Also, your boys left their thank you mess on the window sill and ground outside. Thanks for another show of sloppy work. Again - how do I know the solar panels are installed correctly? The inspector didn't climb up on the roof. I called the office several times to speak with Steve Kasselman but was always told he was not there. On one instance, I was told he was on a job site in Florida but an hour later one of his employees unknowingly let me know that he was just speaking with Steve in the office LOCALLY, in person. Shortly after installation on of the microinverters failed. It took well over 2 months to get fixed and I had to point out to them that there was a problem despite advertising that they monitor your roof. Monday morning I found a metal fabrication of some sort that can only have come from the roof or perhaps from an aircraft overhead. I reported the incident and sent a picture to the Kasselman website and still have not heard back 2 days later. PS I do not appreciate your technician showing up and climbing up on my roof without knocking on my door to announce their arrival. PPS Kasselman employee confirmed this was a part that someone dropped in the snow and dropped to the ground when the snow melted. read more

Had a great experience with them all the way through the sale. Very responsive and helpful. Then after 2 years I had roof leak issues on 1 occasion and panel malfunction on another. Nearly impossible to get help after they made their sale. Dozens of phone calls before I finally for to a manager to fix my leak problem that leaked into my babies bedroom. They didn't care except that I was getting upset. The second problem was only that the panels quit working. They didn't care whatsoever and never returned my calls or helped. Really great to work with and I'm very satisfied. I'm an architect and homeowner so i am pretty picky with contractors but Kasselman were responsive and professional throughout the entire PV planning, design, permitting and installation process. We had quite a bit of back-and-forth during the first 8 weeks on system size, number of panels and attachment methodology (we have a flat roof so we were motivated to minimize penetrations as far as possible). The team was patient and courteous throughout. Install process was super organized with advance notice of exactly when the crew would arrive, and the electricians cleaned up in my garage well. Post installation service (we had one or two teething issues the first week) was also very good. I would recommend them to any homeowner in the upper NY area. read more

It's unfortunate that I'am not able to utilize their services at this time. I do have a huge tree that blocks direct sunlight to our house which basically makes our home not viable for solar energy. I talked to Mr. James Stewart one of their lead PV Engineer, who gave me a ton of info. He did not push me into getting the sales like some other solar companies I have talked to. That's why I'm writing this review for all of you out there who is looking for a solar company to hire. Please give this Company a call and you won't regret it. I was so impressed with their honesty and integrity. If only they had a tree service with them. I would sign in a heartbeat. I have been a customer of Kasselman for 4 years. I will start by saying the install was done very clean but that is only due to the fact I am in the industry and was able to watch them work. I have had nothing but issues with the equipment since the install and along with the horrible customer service this company provides. I have spoken with the owner, you would think he would care about his company, but I was sadly mistaken. I would also like to add that this company sent a very unqualified person to open my MSP and check the wiring that they had previously installed. When this so called "electrician" which he was not left my home. I proceeded to check the MSP to see what was completed only to find my generator breaker jammed into the on position. The scary part it was jammed under the safety lock that does not allow both breakers to be on at once. The two breakers I am referring to is your Main and the generator 50-amp breaker. Oh, to make it worse they installed this so that adds to how disturbed I am by the lack of knowledge and also lack of safety on Kasselman's part since he was not a licensed electrician working in a main panel Please realize this business sends unlicensed and unqualified people to work on the electric at your home never considering the safety of their clients and families. This is not something to play with especially when they are performing work that is supposed to be done by someone licensed and are just a step away from burning a home or business down I will be taking my complaint to the state licensing board and push for this company to be evaluated. This is just a recipe for disaster gambling with people lives by not following state electrical guidelines along with NYSERDA's. They claim to be on the up and up, but I have had the privilege of speaking with the techs there and they said they do this all the time and don't care about how the work gets done as long as they get paid! Let me begin by stating I do not know anyone that works at Kasselman Solar nor do I know the owner.  I began my quest for a Solar Company over 7 years ago.  To make a long story short, after obtaining 4 quotes from four separate Solar Companies, I settled on Kasselman.  I was convinced they were the complete package and all I can say is, boy was I right for once in my life.   At the time, I was satified with how everything went and encouraged 3 other family members and friends who were also in the market for solar to go with Kasselman.  In the end, four of us bought our systems through them.  Fast forward 7 years and for some reason (possibly storm related) my daughter's system had a catastrophic failure.  I contacted Kasselman who actually scheduled a service call MUCH quicker than I would have anticipated.  They sent a service crew over and narrowed the problem down over a two day period.  It turned out that 19 of 30 inverters had failed and needed to be replaced.  Of the four solar systems bought through Kasselman, none of us had EVER had a single problem over all these years.  From the Kasselman office service contact I dealt with (Serena) to the technicians (Hector, Eric, and Tim amongst two others), I can't say enough about how great the communication, service, and professionalism they all exhibited.  I was told the inverters were still under warranty and the issue would be resolved at no cost to my daughter under her warranty.   I am sixty-six years old and can honestly say, I haven't seen this level of customer service in a very long time.  Mr. Kasselman, I thank you for your company and clearly you have the "right kind" of ambassadors working for you.  To any of you out there who are currently considering solar, when you get off the fence and decide to move forward, I HIGHLY recommend this company.  Clearly they stand behind their product and their work.   With my utmost appreciation and respect, John DeSieno read more

I would recommend steering clear of this company. They got a deposit out of me under false pretenses with a bogus financing quote. After 2 1/2 months I'm still waiting for my system to be installed but at this point I'm very likely to back out of it. I understand it can take some time to get materials these days. Sometimes it's best to cut your losses as soon as a lack of integrity shows itself. They will have an opportunity to make good on their quote and change my opinion. We'll see. Update: the system was finally installed. A guy almost killed himself when he narrowly missed falling off the roof while carrying a panel. One of the electricians was blazing in my driveway in between splices. This company bungled every step of the process and my system is only online because I intervened with the power company to get the approval process completed. I would say there isn't a single competent person, but I can't really complain about the grunts who loaded the panels on the roof- aside from the one they broke, but they had an extra. Oh, and there would probably have been medical emergencies on the hottest day of the summer if I hadn't been there to provide water. read more

I have been a customer of Kasselman solars since 2015, and it has been nothing but trouble from the start. They have not turned out to be what I would call a top-rated company. In the beginning, the panels were not producing as much energy as was guaranteed; despite putting an expansion after arguing for 2-3 years, it continued not to produce enough energy. I had to utilize local government funds to finally cut down trees to produce the minimal amount promised. Around that time, my roof began to leak because of poor installation. Initially, they fixed the first leak. However, the roof continued to leak due to poor planning and not utilizing engineers as they should have because I have a unique roof like many people in my area. When I contacted them, they told me leaks were due to the drainage system, not poor installation. I have had many experts in the roofing business that state that leaks are not due to the drainage system but by poor engerinring and not correctly installing the solar panels (they should not have been directly drilled into the roof and installed right next to the drain). In my attempts to resolve issues during an entire year and a half, I have called and have been ignored, and my calls get sent to voice mail. I have attempted to call and resolve the issues with the parent company and finally was able to get a callback. I was informed they would not come to assess the damage unless I paid an additional $350 fee--the company had already written off the damage as my problem. I had my insurance company and four separate contractors come to assess the roof; they sent out an expert to evaluate the roof, and it was deemed by the insurance company as well as the four contractors that the company was negligent and the panels were not installed properly. The company continued to disagree and did not attempt to correct the issues. They continued to push me to pay the $350 fee to have someone come to assess the roof; I was told that since they had already written off the roof as not their problem, I would be wasting my money. I even had a Kassleman solar sight asser and roofer state that they do not install solar panels the same method that was utilized on my roof--leading me to believe this method was not appropriate for most roofs. I had no choice but to replace my entire roof due to the extensive damage from installing solar panels. It would be between 9-10 thousand dollars for them to re-install the panels properly and use the ballard system, which should have been installed in the first place. When scheduling for the panels to be removed so I could have new roofing installed, they prioritized new customers over re-installing panels, leading to more damage to my roof while I waited for availability. In spring 2022, I could have the company remove the panels with a promise from the company that they would adequately re-install the solar panels within 3-4 weeks. The panels are still off; it has been three months without my panels re-installed. I continue to be ignored when I call back with no resolution. So I now total $2100 from the new roof. $2800 for the company to take the solar panels off, and now my panels are in my yard, not producing any energy as I pay more for my energy. I would not recommend Kasselman solars. Additionally, I was told I would have to hire for engineering outside the company costing $800-1500. read more

You definitely want to stay away from these guys. We signed a contract because they had a special and needed to sign right away. The salesperson told us we'd be breaking ground in about 5 months. Fast forward and it's been several years, multiple promises, pricing changes and embarrassing town board meetings where Kasselman staff was fumbling over simple questions. These guys overpromise on their knowledge and experience only to underdeliver when the time comes to get to work. If you place a deposit, don't expect to see your money back when they realize they're in over their heads. You'll have one person for the sale who will promise you the world, another person sweet talking you to keep you on the hook, another person for permitting, and a higher level, but equally incompetent person, who will tell you to go away after they've taken your money. After talking with other people over the past few years who have hired Kasselman we've realized they had the same experience. Hidden additional fees, systems that underperform and no call back on service calls are all the norm. We're probably lucky they only took us for the deposit. My recommendation, and the unofficial recommendation of those who have experience with the permitting process , is to use Apex or Plug PV...anyone but Kasselman! read more

We purchased a 28 panel solar system from kassleman, the person who first came to our house lied about the system and what we could expect and the follow up people once it was installed were nonexistent on telling us how to turn it on. Although the people constructing the system and the electricians were excellent. We called them to have additional panels installed but they will not return our calls. I had been interested in converting to solar for a few years, did my research and decided I was interested in doing business with Kasselman. We found David T. at the Home Expo in February. We were immediately impressed by his knowledge, his charisma for the industry and willingness to answer even the silliest of questions in order to help educate us on the process. We had spoken to some other companies about solar in the last few years, but David's approach was exactly what was needed. Educated, but not pushy. He was relatable and a great first impression for the company. We signed a contract a week later at the end of February and began working with Allison P. on the project. What a great service the team provides: contact information for financing options, handling all paperwork for local permits, Federal and State credit and a liaison with National Grid. I appreciated all of the little things Allison did to keep us informed. She has great energy, very informative and was an absolute pleasure to work with. Everyone was so professional. Our whole project was completed in less than 8 weeks, which was a shock for us! Given the time of year and then the late snowstorm, we are so excited to be generating energy before summer begins! It's been over a year since the crew from Kasselman installed solar panels on my roof. I have been unable to see any reduction in my electricity bills and am not sure that we are even producing solar electricity. As far as I could tell, the crew did an acceptable job (explains the 1 star) but they installed the panels on a Friday afternoon and ,as I live 4 hours away, they were understandably in a hurry to get home when I asked questions. Instead, I was told that the project manager would be here to answer my questions. This never happened. My emails have been ignored. I am now in a situation where I have to find a local contractor to assure me that I'm even producing solar power so that we can install a storage system. Hopefu;lly, those panels are usable and not just decoration. read more

I contracted with Kasselman solar to install a system on my house. At the time the salesman stated that a $500 fee would be required if I needed a new roof and panels needed to be removed- I agreed to this promotional price. Fast forward 2 years and I called Kasselman to inform them I'd be getting a new roof (btw the salesman told me to wait to get a new roof because I had a few years left on my roof and it would only cost $500 to remove panel - what he was really doing was not trying to lose a sale ) after I informed Kasselman about my plans on getting a new roof they said they would give me a quote to remove panels- I informed them that I had a promotion to remove and install panels after a reroof for $500 ! They said it wasn't in writing and they would not HONOR that promotional price - I was shocked and furious- I asked how I would come up with that price of $500 ?? They said they had offered that promotion but since it wasn't in writing they wouldn't honor it - and quoted me $5200 !!! Shocked again they said if I had someone else remove panels it would void my warranty- I was again furious and would not recommend Kasselman- btw they have been to my house 10 times since chasing problems after the reroof and when I saw what the problem was and suggested how to rectify the problem the workers stated that this is the way they have to do it and although it was problematic they had no choice- GET IT IN WRITING AND LOOK AROUND- Kasselman salesman never returned my calls to verify my claim ! I tried to contact Steve Kasselman to discuss this and state my case - but the coordinator would never let me contact him or give him my number- he may be unaware but I doubt it. Kasselman Solar did a fantastic job installing our new solar electric system. I highly recommend them to anyone that is considering a solar install. They don't do solar leases which, in my opinion, look great up front but are only good if you have no other options. You will save more by buying your system outright. And if you have to sell your home, the installed system will be considered an asset instead of a liability. Everyone that I worked with at Kasselman was excellent. They were on time with everything and actually installed the system ahead of schedule. The original timeline was for the system to be installed in six to eight weeks after the contract was finalized. They actually did our install a little over five weeks from the original arrangement. Kasselman employs electricians for their main business. During our system install, there wasn't enough room in our old main electric panel to do a 'side line tap'. So they replaced my entire main panel including all of the breakers and didn't charge anything extra! I offered to pay something extra as I know this was a hugh expense and a benefit to me. They refused to accept any additional money for the extra work! I can't say enough about what a great job they did. They exceeded all of our expectations! Our old system was installed by GroSolar: We already had a 4.59k solar system installed nine years ago. That system provides about half of our electric needs for each year. The old system uses two string inverters to convert DC power to AC power before it feeds into our main power panel. They did an excellent job on that install as well and it still performs very well today considering it is using the older technology. Our new system that was installed by Kasselman Solar: We added another 5.41k system in May of 2016. The system utilizes microinverters on each of 19 - 285 watt SolarWorld panels, made in Hillsboro, Oregon (USA). This newer technology allows each panel to operate independently and operate on different plains. This means the panels can be at different angles compared to other panels. If there is shading on one panel, it doesn't impact the output of other panels. This was a big consideration for us because our old system was installed on one roof all together. Our new system has panels on different roofs, facing in different directions and at different angles to the sun. The electricity is converted to AC, by a microinverter at each panel, fed to a central box and then into our main electric panel. We can monitor our system on our phones. Also, Kasselman monitors each panel individually and can identify any panel issues remotely. The system has been running for almost a month and our electric meter is flying backwards! Adam Jordan was the main person I worked with to get my contract finalized. He and everyone at Kasselman are top notch! Between our two systems, we should get about 100% of our electricity from solar every year! read more

The team as Kasselman were great to work with and used all the experience they have gained as electricians in this new industry. It all started with the insistence on meeting face to face to talk about their solution, the costs, the differentiators etc. and continued with an incredible, professional installation team, a project manager who communicated very well, and ended with the CEO coming to drop off and setup the last few pieces. All in all it was well worth it and I cannot wait to upgrade to grid tied battery system when it comes out. The technology is cutting edge, with micro-inverters, and web based monitoring. If there was any tiny piece I could ding them on, it was the fact that I was lost with the financing through NYSERDA and the third party bridge piece.
