these guys have got to step up their game. We had steak it was gristle all through. It couldn't chew it. I left my steak on the plate. By the time the vegetables arrived on my plate. Everything was cold. I know I eat in stages I've been here before, but we were very disappointed. The mustard sauce has changed flavors. It's not as good as it used to be. it doesn't even taste like mustard sauce anymore.They just use 1000 island dressing on their salad which is different as well. The chairs are falling apart and too low for the table you're sitting at, the windows are greasy. It's just crazy. The whole restaurant seems to have gone downhill. I was so disappointed. Our reservation was for 6 PM and at 6:02 the waitress wanted our food order because the other six people had already been seated. The food was immediately started and we had to eat one thing at a time so it didn't go cold while the rest was cooking the second the chef was done the waitress was trying to clear whatever plates she could and within 10 minutes she had to go boxes put by our plate. The whole experience lasted less than an hour before our bill was presented for $120 not including tip. We were never asked if we wanted another drink or how the meal was. My friend drove over an hour from North Van, and there was no chance to socialize before he had to go back. The food was good no complaints with that, but it was a terrible experience. read more

When I went here (get this), they had NO salt and pepper shakers at the table. A place that does a big show of cooking and serving MEAT. After we were served, no salt for the MMMMMMMEAT was provided (instant FAIL). And when I asked fancy boy with the twirling spatulas for some, he just put some on my food from a bigassed wooden shaker, deciding himself how much salt I should have; then buggered off, without leaving it at the table. I mean seriously, how stupid is that? During his routine, he even dropped a spatula on the burner with a racket that may have been heard across the street; which I thought was funny. Amazing service all around!! Brought a 4 year old and the chef was so attentive to him! They have excellent food options (but not vegan). The food is fresh and bountiful! Salad was my favourite part because their dressing is so good. The soup is not vegetarian (chicken stock) but pretty good! The veggie are cooked on the same spot as the meats and a lot of butter was used. The veg combo is $26 but lots of veg is included. Would love to see a tofu option available. I come here quite often because the food is yummy! I LOVE their fried rice and the sauces that come on the side for your protein choice. You get a small soup and salad then enjoy the rest of the show, while they cook infront of you! The service is usually good, last time I went they almost forgot about our drinks.. Friendly and hard working chefs and the waitress is nice too. The waitress did make a mistake on one of our drink orders but fixed it right away, even before telling her. There's quite a few choices for drinks and food. Personally, I don't think it's a place for drinks. Unless out of the bottle wine or beer, their cocktails are just okay. The food is tasty but nothing memorable either. The fried rice was probably my favourite part of the menu. Though it might be heavy but it's actually perfectly seasoned and cooked. The veggies were good but the meat were a bit heavy. Too much sauce on all of them and some sauce itself are already pretty salty. The dogs are fine but the floor a bit slippery for heels. The prices are pretty reasonable but it's not a place I'd travel all the way for. It's not bad at all but didn't make it on my list for places to go back to. read more

I have a shellfish allergy so was too afraid to order anything! you can't talk to your group due to sitting side by side around a grill and again your with strangers! they use the same sauce on everything the group said everything tasted burnt and the same! I don't get the hype, just got back from a reservation tonight. The service was great, restaurant was clean hence the 2 stars, but rice served first was sitting cold on a plate for 15 min before meat was served and then another 10 min for veggies, seemed all to be in the wrong order and all out of sync...especially when you pay 125$ pre tax and top with no booze for two people. We came here for for a birthday celebration and had a great time. We were a table of 8 so we filled all the seats surrounding the grill. As soon as we sat down we were greeted promptly and the drinks were flowing after a short wait. We started off with some cold sake in a bamboo with little bamboo cut cups. My bf and I shared the Ebi Chili Mayo and Bacon wrapped scallops appetizers. The prawns were big and lightly battered, drizzled with ebi mayo all on some fresh greens. The scallops were a little small but they were perfectly cooked in their bacon blankets. The chef was very friendly and worked hard to give us a fun show. He was good with keeping us engaged and making sure the birthday boy was taken care of. I ordered the Hibachi steak teppanyaki. It was amazingly tender and flavourful. All the teppanyaki orders came with fried rice, vegetables, salad, shrimp appetizer and onion soup. We really enjoyed this teppanyaki experience and will probably be visiting again. read more

Amazing service , delicious food and great chefs with such a fun ambience ! Went for my husbands birthday and we ordered the Ebi Chilli Mayo for appetizers and it was very yummy . Although we had to ask for extra mayo as they serve very little to nothing mayo on the shrimp and it was a tad bit dry at first but with the side of mayo it was perfect. Just a suggestion if they can drizzle a little bit more mayo on the shrimp as the dish is called Ebi chilli mayo after all. Anywhoo I'm done with the mayo talk . Let's move on to the dinner part. We both went with Teppan Yaki and I ordered katana - which includes of chicken , giant lobster tail and tiger prawns and each item from Teppan yaki comes with a choice of delicious fried rice or steamed rice , wonderful salad with sesame dressing , vegetables and soup. Each item on their menu is so thoughtfully made and tastes amazing. My hubby ordered the Imperial Dinner - New York Steak, giant lobster tail and tiger prawns again with the side dishes . We both enjoyed our time there so much that we will definitely go back and next time with our parents . Why did I give them 4 star and not 5? Well so we went for my husbands bday dinner and the chef came and asked if any of us on the table were celebrating anything and so I said yah it's his bday. Then they brought out this drum roll and pineapple boat thing for him with sparklers which was very sweet . However without my knowledge they charged us for the pineapple boat . I mean why not let us know if u were gonna charge us to begin with. Not a big deal as I don't mind spending on my hubby but it could be an awkward situation for many . We brought the family here in February for our daughter's birthday. We all had an enjoyable time and the kids were mesmerized. The food was plentiful but not overly filling. The proteins are done to perfection. I had a streak and prawn combo and wow! I picked the right choice. Overall, the flavours are decent, but I think they could add a little more... something something... to the fried rice or the veggies. Not complaining tho. We'll be back because there's nothing like this on this side of the metro area, especially at a reasonable price. read more

So all seats are around the teppanyaki grill station which is pretty neat but I would request to sit in the front and not on the side or else it just feels weird to be at the edge. Service deserves a one star as I was the one thanking them for bringing me the dish, heard no utterance from the staff. After ordering just the appetizers, the waitress just left abruptly without saying thank you or taking the menus but promptly stormed off into the kitchen saying stuff loudly to the other staff. Hey if you have a minimum you want people to pay here then put it in or else show some decent manners or politeness. In any case good place to come if you like stuff soaked in sauce and grilled and don't mind about the taste. It's a large area so you can also have a party here but also make sure you wash your clothes right after like any BBQ place as your clothes will smell like it. Katanas has been a long time Langley go to for teppanyaki entertainment. It seems to me upon first impression that they do not appreciate your business. Extremely pushy and don't really care about your experience very much. The chefs how ever are generally very good and pleasant with the guests. Our experience was very similar to this. If you want a quick show and mediocre food this might do the trick. Don't expect great service or lots of smiles from the service staff but it is what it is. It is much cheaper than Kobe's downtown but the service is noticeably different. I probably won't be back for a long time just cause that place really bugs me, but my wife finds it fun so will probably be back. Don't expect much from these guys. read more

Second time we have been to Katana. Hoped it was better than the first time but found that it had not improved. We had to wait for the other guests to arrive for our table. The food and entertainment from the chef was excellent. As before, we froze. The men at our table even complained about the cold around their legs. They picked up the plates before everyone was finished eating and handed us the bill. We were going to order some tea and another drink however they came and cleaned the table before we had a chance to order indicating our service was over. We were in and out in one hour and twenty minutes. Rush, rush, rush. Not a relaxing meal or dining experience. They seem to be more interested in putting through as many people as possible for the $$$$$ and certainly not interested in customer service. read more

Katana is a great Teppanyaki House in Langley. Food is cooked in front of you on the grill. Typical dishes are steak, chicken, and seafood (scallops, prawns, etc). Dinner entrees come with rice (fried or steamed) and veggies. Each grill seats about 8 people, so if you're going in a group keep that in mind. With your own personal chef it's a good time. Ambiance: The interior was a kamikaze attack on your senses, much like a Japanese Moxies whereas Moxies is obviously trying very hard to be hip and Asian, Katana does it with little effort. Be warned, this is not your run of the mill eatery... although there is no dress code in effect the feel is definitely business casual - but sexy! The seats are very comfortable and the table-tops are very high. So if you are not exactly the tallest in the crowd you may consider a booster seat, or at very least a phone book to sit on. Food: Each dinner is divided into roughly five courses. We started off with separate appetizers consisting of gyoza and Ebi-Chili-Mayo (deep fried king size Tiger Prawns served with our special chili-mayo sauce, topped with corn chips). VBallguy ordered the chicken meal, Gunshow ordered the steak and prawns while JPo ordered the Katana (chef's special) consisting of chicken, shrimp and lobster. Prior to receiving the bulk of the meal everyone was served Japanese fried rice and a vegetable medley. Both items were equally outstanding. Very different, very good. The grilled veggies were cooked to perfection. The chicken was marinated and cooked well, the steak was marinated in sake and cooked medium-rare, the prawns and lobster were cooked and seasoned on the grill. I'm a BIG fan of teppanyaki and Kobe's is one of my favorites but I hate how they pack you in like a little sardine and I always feel a little bit rushed. Katana is an excellent alternative! The prices are a bit lower, the food is just as delicious and there are few differences. The veggies include mushrooms, onions and zucchini (just like Kobe's) but they also add broccoli and carrots! They don't do any sprouts though. They INCLUDE fried rice in your Teppan Yaki order where as Kobe's charges extra! It's absolutely delicious too. The atmosphere is very nice, the staff is exceptionally friendly and I really enjoyed my entire experience tonight. I would definitely recommend dropping by for a delicious meal. read more

I was once a regular, but now that I've moved out of the area I don't frequent as much. Not to mention, it hits the pocket book! Staff are great, the chefs are always friendly. We would always get an extra glass for the chef and he would always give us a weird look when we poured a shot of Sake in there for him and yelled 'Kanpai!' The sashimi salad was always a hit for me. The sashimi was perfect, and the sauce wasn't too much and not too little. A good appetizer before the main course - the all consuming Imperial Dinner! Lobster tail, new york steak, fried rice, too good to pass up. I have yet to find somewhere that has fried rice that is this tasty. The chefs all do different things, so on different nights you might get the same one, or a different one. They are well trained and keep you amused. The food was all really delicious, but the amount wasn't very much. Especially since it takes so long to cook everything on the grill and they do it a bit at a time. So by the time they cook the protein, your rice that was cooked first, is cold or already eaten if you are hungry. I didn't leave there full by any means. Came for a family dinner/celebration - was absolutely great. Most of us at the table had the filet mignon - I had it with prawns, others had it with scallops - it was amazing. You dont even need to chew - it is of such high quality meat and the 2 sauces they serve with it were yummy. Fried rice is a must - taste is unbelieveable. The 'show' the Chef puts on was really entertaining - we had a 16 month old with us - and although initially a little scared of the fireball, even he enjoyed it!! A bit pricey yes, but well worth it. We had to book 2 weeks in advance for a Sunday @ 6pm seating - there were 7 of us and the place was jam packed. We will definitely return! read more
