Seen this place every time we head out to Buntzen Lake or Belcarra and finally decided to try it. It is in a strip mall complex so plenty of parking. Inside was bigger than we thought. The lunch menu had plenty of items and their specialty roll prices are a little cheaper than other places. We got the Lion King roll and it was only $12.50. Normally specialty rolls are $14 and up. The roll was good, the seared salmon on top was fresh and the fried yam & potato gave it a good crunch to compliment the sushi. The poke bowl combo is worth it for $18.15. It has thr good size poke bowl, boneless chicken karaage, ebi sunomono, green salad and miso soup. If you just get a poke bowl at a poke place, just the poke bowl would have been $15+.To get the other items, it is worth the price for what you get. It is filling. Recently visited Hana Yuki to finally try out their lunch menu and was very happy I did!! Compared to their dinner menu they have really great lunch combos that is bang for your bucks!! I ordered the Deluxe Combo and it came with sooo much food including teriyaki chicken with rice, a shrimp tempura, sashimi, octopus appy, tuna tataki, salad, chicken karaage and Aburi sushi! It was enough to feed two people! This combo is perfect for the indecisive eaters who always like a taste of everything!! Overall it is a great family sushi restaurant to pickup a quick meal! It was a first-time dining experience for us, at this still rather new to the area, Japanese restaurant located in the 'Heritage Mountain Shopping Centre'. Access, and parking was quick and easy -- we arrived about 11:10 am, found parking immediately in front of the restaurant, and used the time before it opened, to browse and shop at a couple of nearby stores. Service: We were warmly-greeted by staff upon entering, and shown to a 4-place table on the window-side of the restaurant. Menus, and mugs of good, and 'nice & hot' tea came quickly. Very very happy that this sushi restaurant opened up near me!! Ginza is one of my favourite sushi places (in Poco), and Hanayuki is a sister restaurant :) I LOVE their menu and their special rolls are to die for. My personal favourite is the popping roll. They also have the best yam tempura roll I have ever had. It is huge in size and always incredibly crispy. The quality of their fish is also always top notch. I always get their toro nigiri (huge slabs of fresh toro), and their chopped scallop nigiri (again, very big). I have also seen people get the ramen lately which looked incredible, I will definitely be trying it next! On a side note, their service at the moment can be a little choppy due to being a new restaurant and getting in a groove (sometimes there is miscommunication between the servers and chefs), but it doesn't stop me from coming weekly! read more

I ordered their special rolls, OMG roll, which was very yummy and fresh. The sauce goes so well with the ingredients. They have an interesting menu which tailors to everyday food lovers and adventurous foodies. Besides the regular rolls, sushi, sashimi, nigiri, bento box, yakisoba, yaki udon, udon, ramen, donburi, teriyaki, katsu, tempura, you name it, they also serve oshi (box-pressed sushi and flame seared on top), aburi (flame seared sushi) and some Korean dishes such as hot stone bowl (bibimbap), and Korean style spicy chicken. Gotta try them next time! The waitresses were nice although it was a bit slow when I wanted to order. I'd give it a solids 3.5 stars. The staffs are usually friendly but not attentive. My friend asked for one warm water because she can't have anything cold, she gave us two glasses of ice water. I asked her a second time if she could have hot water instead, not cold. She said okay and came back with a pot of cold water. We decided to order first before telling her again because it became repetitive and awkward at this point. There's lots of options for food and they came out looking very appetizing. They tastes good but a bit too heavy for me. Wish they didn't have that much sauce on their rolls because it was over powering the taste as a whole. Once we had one roll on the table, I asked the waitress again if my friend could have hot water, then explained she can't have anything cold. She nodded and left and never came back. After 45mins when we asked for the bill and she brought the machine...that's when she gave my friend a cup of hot water.....it's not a bad place but with the service being so inconsistent and sometimes nonexistent and the food is too heavy that I feel like I'm eating sauce and not seafood so I don't think I'd be going back again. You literally blink and someone has taken it upon themselves to refill your water or tea. Delicious and unique sushi rolls. The tataki attack roll was amazing and their teriyaki chicken is the best I've had by far!! Delicious teriyaki sauce, and the chicken is actually crispy and juicy and all meat no fat, comes sizzling in a skillet dish. Very satisfied with the food, it's a must try! The only thing that was my concern was lack of service, server didn't come to our table for at least 15 minutes, when she finally came she dropped off 2 glasses of water and ran off without saying a word! I've visited Hanayuki Sushi a couple of times. The atmosphere, food, and service is stellar. Some of their food has a different take on classical Japanese food (for example, their green tea is made with different ingredients), but not in a bad way. It still maintains the wonderful Japanese food with a slight twist. The place is well decorated, feels cozy and good for family meals. The price is a little expensive, but definitely worth it. My one qualm is ordering food from here. When it is busy, my food has been ready much later than they promised. I've learned to arrive 30 minutes later than the takeout time promised. read more

The value for money is quite poor, and service is mediocre; it seems the restaurant is understaffed as there were only 2 people serving the entire place, which was quite full when we were there. We were also disappointed that the tamago nigiri arrived cold, when it should arrive warm (ie- freshly made), I suspect they make many of their items in advance instead of preparing them fresh. Been here a few times for lunch and it's been great. It's probably the best sushi spot these days in the Newport/Suterbrook area. They are Korean owned and so if you were feeling for a little bit of Korean on the side they have that as well. What Koreans do know is fried chicken. The chicken teriyaki bento box for $11 for lunch is a good deal as they give you lots of perfectly deep fried chicken and a whole load of tempura. Lots of specialty rolls to choose from as well which I've enjoyed. Delicious! read more
