Must've caught her on a bad day. She doesn't seem to like dogs. On initial contact, I informed a young lady (Kate?) that Mo, suffered from separation anxiety which caused excessive barking and I was hoping that "daycare" would help. I got the sense that she "uh-huhed" me and didn't pay attention to what I was saying. Mo regularly attends dog parks with no incident and has successfully boarded in the past. I left Mo with her for an evaluation today. Within 10 minutes, I got a call, "Does he (sic) have separation anxiety? He is barking a lot." About an hour later I got a call and was told that my dog was too nervous and barked too much to stay there. I guess Harvard or Yale are out of the question now. read more

I took my dog here every once in a while for less than a year, and they never pronounced his name right (minor issue but shows the lack of caring) and they were never very friendly. Your dog is in a kennel until at least 9am and again after 3pm, so if you drop off/pick up before/after work they spend a lot of the day sitting in a kennel. My dog always had to pee immediately after getting out of their building. I didn't realize just how much I didn't like doggy daycare this was until I went somewhere else and had a great experience. read more

I used to work downtown near Crown Center, and Kate's Canine Resort was a handy place to drop off my dog for daycare. I like to take him to daycare every once awhile just to give him a chance to play for a day instead of being stuck at home by himself all day, and also to keep him socialized. Kate's is a great little place. It's fairly small compared to most of the dog daycares around here, but it's friendly place and Muggle seems to always have fun when he's there. There are separate areas for big dogs and small dogs, which I like. My dog THINKS he's a big dog, and usually ends up getting trampled by much larger dogs when he tries to rough 'em up. If your dog isn't feeling well or is older or even just a new puppy, they are kept behind the front desk in their own little area where they can get special care. All of the staff I have met here are very nice people and a lot of the customers seem to be regulars. I know that Kate's offers boarding and grooming as well, though I've never had the opportunity to try them out. Kate's is very reasonably priced! I pay $15 a day to keep Muggle in daycare. By far the cheapest daycare in KC that I'm aware of! read more

I'm not sure if this place necessarily deserves 2 stars, but i definitely HAVE experienced better. (although it is possible that my only other kennel experience was so good that it's ruined me for everybody else. See my Cottonwood Kennels review) Like any other kennel, they require your dog be up-to-date on shots. Unlike other kennels, they don't keep those records on file, they just briefly glance and say "okay". It made me not feel as comfortable, that's for sure. It seemed like there were a lot of REALLY big dogs there, and in not the biggest of areas. I was worried b/c my dog can be intimidated fairly easily by huge dogs. I don't know how it went down while i was gone, but they told me she was very timid the entire time she was there. That's not like my dog at all, unless she's freaked the fuck out. She was there for 1 night. I had just bathed and groomed her 2 days before. She reeked of pee when i picked her up. She also could NOT get out of the place faster. She wanted nothing more than to not be there. On the positive, the location is very convenient and Kate is a VERY friendly lady. I may use this place again for daycare, but i doubt that i'll be kenneling her overnight again. If i have a better experience the next time i send her to daycare, i'll update my review and reconsider kenneling. read more

I've been taking my lab mix to Kate's for over a year now. I absolutely love the place! Tracy, the owner, is so good at dealing with my dogs quirky personality. She likes him regardless of some things that could drive her crazy and it's nice to drop him off with someone I can trust him with! He is a jumper and can scale the privacy fence around their outdoor play area. She knows to watch out for this and keeps perfect track of him. I took my dog to Kate's before Tracy took over. Kate was still running the place and I don't have a single complaint about either owner. When Tracy came she put her personal touch on the place and it's looking really nice. I was happy when she had the floors sealed and redid some of the kennel area. It is a place run by dogs and she took the initiative to deal with this fact by doing these things. I caught myself giggling a bit at the negative reviews. I take my dog both to daycare and to Penn Dog park down the road. People complaining about their dogs smelling a bit after being around so many other dogs is a bit silly, isn't it? Every once and a while my dog will get peed on at the park. I can't imagine the silly things the dogs do to each other at daycare. They get slobber on each other and are going to play enough that yes, they might end up smelling like dogs! There was a day when Freud (my mutt) got sick at daycare and Tracy felt awful and offered to give him bath. If the other owners would have even eluded to the fact that they were upset Tracy would have jumped to fix the problem. I know this because on another day Freud's collar broke while he was playing with another dog. Tracy felt offered repeatedly to replace it. She cares! read more

I work at Children's Mercy Hospital and bring my active Foxhound to Kate's as much as possible. It is clean and safe and he absolutely loves it there! He has incredible fun at Daycare and is never in a hurry to leave. He comes home happily tired and sleeps all night every night. And I never worry about him.:) Prices are very fair and he is treated very very well. read more

I went to Kates for a good year anytime I would leave town. My dog can be very skittish and doesn't do well with being boarded. I took my dog to Kates multiple times as the staff has always been great with my dog and the fact she gets to play with other dogs while she's there's brings her anxiety levels down. When I pick her up she always seems happy and tired which is great. Also have had my dog groomed here and they did a great job as well. Would really recommend kates for dog boarding, great staff, dogs get to play and not sit in kennels and reasonable pricing. If I was still a resident of Kansas City my dog would still be a regular here. read more

I brought my two pooches, a Pomeranian/Maltese mix and a border collie/lab mix to Kate's since the beginning of 2016. I needed a place that was conveniently located between home and work, decently priced, with good reviews, and someone I could trust with my two fur babies. Fortunately, I found Kate's and I loved bringing my pups in a few days a week to play and expend their extra energy. Plus, they have boarding services that were helpful when work called to be out of town. Tracey and her staff are great! They are friendly and engaging, as well as flexible with impromptu schedule changes. Our two pups were happy and exhausted from their day of play when I picked them up. I would still take them to Kate's Canine Resort, but we moved out of state a few months ago. I highly recommend Kate's for your daycare and boarding needs! read more

I think these people are irresponsible. I visited them today at 12:05 Noon and the dogs were locked up inside with nobody in sight. It appears they were left alone. I called their phone number with no answer three times and left a message. I also called the KCMO action line, but apparently that is permitted. Please beware! I wish I could take this place with me when I moved. I heard of this place through some people at the dog park and they were so right. It has the friendliest and most loving, caring staff. I have boarded my beloved pup here for a month and when I picked him up, he was happy, healthy and even got a brushing. Plus, they are priced very reasonably last time I checked. They fill up fast for boarding so call way ahead of time. read more

Couldn't be happier with Kate's Canine Resort. My golden retriever has been going there for doggy daycare since August 2018 and we couldn't be happier with the services. Dogs are well cared for, friendly staff, and my pup comes home exhausted and happy! Not to mention if you purchase a package, the prices for daycare are very competitive for the area. I live in Cape Girardeau, MO. I go to KC frequently to see my daughter. I take my two Golden-doodles and they stay at Kate's Canine resort when we go out. May not be the biggest or fanciest, but there is more love and attention in that place that any I have seen. I use kennels a lot wherever I go and I do not know of any that pay closer attention than Katie. It is a fabulous place, centrally located. I would highly recommend. read more

We had to leave our dog here while we were at our Annual Military Training for two weeks. When we came to pick him up he smelled like poop, had nicks and scrapes all over him (I don't know if other dogs were attacking him but he doesn't fight with dogs, he loves to play), his dog tags and collar were missing, and he looked like he lost weight. When we asked about his collar and tags she didn't even offer us a discount or money to get them replaced. She said she would give us a discount on his next stay...LIKE WE'RE BRINGING HIM BACK LADY! I guess you get what you pay for. Maybe we had a bad experience, but I would never leave my dog there over night! read more

We've brought our lab puppy Vader to Kate's since he was 3 months old and he's always loved it! The best part is he's EXHAUSTED after we pick him up and he sleeps like a baby all night. Kate is amazing with all the dogs and Vader is never in a hurry to leave. We've boarded him over weekends and he even stayed 6 nights over the holiday's and I was so happy to not have to worry about his well being. Kate is amazing and her resort is exactly what KC puppies need. read more

I have been taking my Golden doodle since she was 6 months and now she is 10 months old. Needless to say this puppy needs a lot of attention and plenty of room to play I couldn't ask for a better place than Kate's Canine Resort. I've been taking my husky mix here for over a year now and I couldn't be happier. Tracy and the team there take great care of him. My dog is very shy and skiddish around most people, but he really likes everyone there, so that says a lot. Prices are fair, location is great if you work or live downtown, and my dog loves it -- that's enough for me! I also board him here frequently when I'm out of town and groom him here - always had a great experience. Highly recommend! read more

I haven't been going to Kate's for long, but I've had nothing but good experiences. I work late so I have to board him overnight when he goes, but have never had any problems. Taz (beagle/jack russell mix) absolutely loves going. He doesn't even look back at me when I try to say goodbye. He comes home smelling like other dogs, but never like urine. And he is always so tired when he comes home, he sleeps all day long! I would definitely recommend Kate's to anyone with active and social dogs! read more

Horrible experience is an understatement. I honestly don't know how they have so many good reviews. I wanted to start my bulldog puppy (1 yr old) in daycare because our other dog recently passed and we wanted to keep her getting some playtime with winter coming. She loves going to the dog park and has never had a single ounce of aggression. She loves being around other dogs, kids and anyone that will give her some attention. During her trial day, they called me to tell me she was mean, aggressive and couldn't come back until she had more experience being around other dogs. Absurd. She was so excited to be there, she was likely hyper and needed some understanding of this crazy, new environment. She is far from a perfect dog, but she is definitely not the beast they painted her out to be. When the owner called me to tell me how awful she was, she said that they would show me a video when I picked her up, but when I went in, within an hour, the girl behind the counter had no idea what I was referring to when I asked to see this video. She came home smelling so bad, covered in feces, she needed 2 baths to get the odor away and get completely clean. On top of that, they have no yard space for dogs to run, they are simply taken out twice a day to pee and go back into the extreme loud chaos of a pen with too many dogs for the space. They didn't greet my dog or even acknowledge her at all. When I went to pick her up, the girl pointed me to where her leash was and then the puppy was sent bolting into the lobby, unleashed, with no control at all. I could go on with more details, but I hope this gives a good picture to never take your dog here. I took her to another place the very next day that is amazing and loves my dog as much as I do. read more

I started taking my mini goldendoodle here when he has 8 months old. My first poor encounter occurred just a couple of months later. When I picked him up he had a large gash on his tail. It looked as if his tail got caught under a door. It was a bad injury, which I had to take him to the vet for, and I'm sure he would have cried loudly when it occurred. When I confronted Kate's about the injury they denied knowing anything about the gash. I was shocked that nobody noticed. They then told me that he has quite a bit of energy, and that some of the older dogs may be getting frustrated with him. I thought daycare was supposed to be for friendly dogs with energy. The daycare said that they would take a video of him playing with the other dogs so I could see his interactions. They never did. The final straw came when Kate's asked that I take him to puppy classes before bringing him back. My dog is extremely friendly and plays well with all dogs. He picks up on cues from other dogs extremely well and knows not to play with certain dogs if they clearly don't want to play. The whole situation was unsettling and sketchy. I do not recommend Kate's to anybody. It is not worth the wellbeing of your pet. I now take my dog to Dawg Pawz and love it! They always have great things to say about him. Further, it is better staffed and much cleaner than Kate's. Kate's is cheap for a reason. read more

Two thumbs up! I love Kate's and more importantly so does Winston! I've been taking Winston to Kate's since I adopted him several years ago. There was a switch in ownership in February and I could not be happier with all the improvements that are being made. It is definitely cleaner, more organized, the smell has radically improved (still smells a touch like dog, but remember there are tons of dogs there-that is to be expected) and I love the environment they are creating for the dogs. Kate's is locally owned, which is a big plus in my book, by a couple that cares about our community as well as our dogs. With that said, it's not the fancy dancy place that some of the big chains are, so if that is what you are looking for I would not recommend Kate's, but if you are looking for a welcoming environment for your dog to have a great experience playing and socializing Kate's is the place for you and your best friend. Winston comes home wore out from his play time outside and inside with his buddies and gets excited to go back to Kate's to see all his friends. The dogs are well cared for by a staff that invests time and energy into the care of my dog and I am very thankful that he is cared for by them as well as he is at home. read more

Heard about Kate's from a friend and was disappointed. The place smelled horrible because there is urine and feces at the front area. Our two dogs came home sick and needed an immediate bath. We do not recommend this "resort" to anyone. read more
