We brought our Golden doodle up for 2 days while we were out of town. Purchased him a suite. When arriving to pick him up the woman at the counter informed me that Emmett seemed to be limping a little due to the gravel in the back. (Keeping in mind that he was outside when I picked him up) I took him home and watched him slowly getting around and whimpering. I laid him down and looked at his paws to see that he has what was confirmed by our vet to be burns from either chemicals or heat of pavement. (He was leaning more to chemical) When it was brought to their attention they claimed that some dogs have issues with the gravel outside. (Which may be true) We responded with what our vet has informed us and they denied that this was the issue. My issue with the employees and establishment is that she knowingly allowed my pet to continue on outside with his limping and pain rather than cleaning the area and treating it properly. If it was in fact the gravel that caused the issue then they were completely neglectful and honestly abusive toward my dog during his visit. We asked on the phone if they have any intentions of changing their cleaning products (since it's likely a chemical burn) and she informed that they would not. They also denied any assistance with vet bill or reimbursement for his visit. Basically they didn't care at all. Save your pet from the pain they will endure after boarding here read more

My Butters is a 5yo cattle dog mix I adopted a few yrs ago. She's high energy with separation anxiety, and I thought there were certain behaviors that would always remain. Then when I moved near Elkhound and was closing my old house, I saw an opportunity to do the board and train. She has mentally matured soooo much over just several weeks! She also has become very fond of crates as her designated place to unwind. I was worried about everything that she learned would disappear, so I've continued to use the advice given upon picking her up. *I think that is important for any potential clients to remember! Don't think that your pup will magically continue doing everything they've learned. You have to put in the work afterwards.* I also noticed that the staff form close connections with each dog, and you should always look for a place where every staff member knows your dog by name and personality. I officially decided this will be our go-to boarding for all of my vacations (unless Butters is going with me). They have a boarding option that includes daily training to keep up the skills. I've been taking my dog, Milo, to Elkhound Ranch for well over a year now and they're great. I love that my dog gets an indoor/outdoor room instead of having to be cooped up all day. My dog always seems happy to get there and happy when I pick him up. They've been great about scheduling and I've never had any issues. Only reason I'm not giving a 5/5 is the pick-up policy - To pick up on a Sunday there is a very short timeframe and a fee to do so which ends up being about as much as just having them stay the additional night. Pick-up time otherwise without additional charges is 3pm, which is a challenge for those not able to work from home. read more

My husband and I had to place our one-year-old golden in a kennel for the first time while we were travelling and had to stop in Kansas City for work. We stayed in a hotel for 7 nights. I thought it was really weird that Elkhound would not allow us to provide our dog with blankets, toys, or chews. She is a golden and is always carrying something in her mouth. Because of inactivity and lying on a hard surface, her legs had callouses on them when she left--her first injuries ever ocurred at this kennel. It has been five months and still have not completely healed. In addition, she developed a nervous habit of chewing at her paws--partly (at least) because she wasn't allowed anything in her mouth! Those too took time to heal. The people at the kennel were nice enough. But obviously, they do not know what a golden retriever needs as a baseline to stay healthy. We thought she would get a lot of activity there, but it does not seem she did. They should take the time to care for pets properly. I now know, after her staying at other kennels, that the treatment she received at Elkhound is NOT NORMAL. We have encountered no other place denies a pet parent wishing to provide toys and blankets for their pet--not in CO, NM, MI. All other places have attentive staff that take enough care and time to assure no territorial or possessive sqauabbles take place over toys, chews, and blankets. I hate to think of our poor dog in Elkhound Ranch's quarters. I would never recommend this place. read more

I recently went through a divorce and had to board my Great Pyrenees, Dolly. I wanted to make sure she was in a safe, comfortable environment while I closed on a new home for us. I had to board her for a total of 35 days. As you can imagine this has been a fairly large expense but I was willing to pay for her to have the best care while away from me. I was strongly discouraged by staff from visiting her since she would be a long time stay and seeing her would make her need to re-adjust again and again. I didn't want to cause he any additional stress so abided but their suggestion and boy do I wish I hadn't. I called several times and was always told she was doing great. As soon as I picked her up yesterday I could tell something was off. She wasn't being her normal, excited and loving self. I got her home and had her in our new back yard when so noticed she had used the restroom and I could visibly see worms in her stool. I was shocked and immediately called the kennel. They told me that a manager would call me back. A lady named Kristen called me, told me that any dog could get worms, it's totally normal, dogs get them from even licking a flea. By that logic every dog in the universe must have worms but I digress. She asked if she was on heartworm or flea and tick prevention which I thought was an odd question. I was under the assumption every dog boarded there had to be vaccinated and on flea and tick prevention and I provided her vet records before boarding. She tried to tell me that Dolly would have had to have had the worms prior to being boarded. I explained that Dolly was boarded for 35 days. If she did have them prior how in the world did no one at the kennel notice worms crawling out of her poop for 35 days!? She has also had a consistent cough since I picked her up. I got home from work this evening and she she's been coughing up large amounts of saliva and phlegmy. I have to assume she has some sort of respiratory infection. I also noticed a sore on her back left leg. The soonest I could get her in with her vet is tomorrow morning. I will be having her stool tested to confirm the worm type and get medication and to see what can be done about her cough. I was never informed she had any sort of worm issue, any coughing or breathing issues or that anything had happened to her back leg. After speaking with Kristen I was offered no solution other than to take my dog to their vet and good luck with the situation. I was asked to call back and let them know what kind of worms because she was simply curious to know. I had assumed I would have been offered a refund or help with the vet bills since my dog had been in their care for over a month. I was offered no explanation, no apology, no refund and no help with the vet bill. Instead I was offered a poor excuse, bad science and accused of not having her on proper medications. I wouldn't recommend this kennel to anyone for any reason, even if you are going to board for only a few days. You will be paying to risk the health and well being of your dog. read more

I've been using Elkhound Ranch for a year now. A parent became ill hospitalized and last minute after just getting my new dog I needed boarding. Other family members use them and I reached out to Elkhound's last minute. I was so impressed with them explaining services to me & getting my dog right in. During the stay I was getting updates on Reid and how he was doing. Now a year later Reid loves going to each visit. He is a regular visitor. Staff are great with the pets. Check-ins and pickups go very smoothly. I know what the cost will be upfront. The cost is reasonable for this area. I know when I drop off Reid he is in excellent hands and I don't have to worry. Don't not take your pet to this Kennel! My Pup was injuried in their care and management seemed not to care about the welfare of her after I told them about her injuries. They also returned my dog covered in mud (she was groomed and cleaned when I dropped her off) and one of the workers suggested I pay extra to have her bathed at their facility. It wasn't until I treathened to take legal action is when they decided to care and pay for the vet bills. My dog had to be put under and received 4 staples in her neck to treat the laceration she sustained. read more

I have been taking my 2 large dogs here for 3 years. We've boarded them and also put them in daycare/ group play probably 15 times. We have always had great experiences. The dogs come home happy and exhausted. The prices are very reasonable. They are open for a few hours for Sunday pick-up, which is rare. The family that runs it is very nice and care about their customers. Their girls always remember my dogs names and are excited to see them come through the door. The mom, who typically runs the front, has actually found ways to decrease my bill without me even asking or complaining or anything - she charged me for a day of group play instead of an extra night of boarding when I came after the pick up time. They've also thrown in free baths and small thank you gifts at the holidays. They are located next to woods and have lots of room for the dogs in the outdoor play areas and the indoor/outdoor kennels are good sized - I put both my Boxers in the same one and it's fine. I have recommended Elkhound to my friends and convinced my mom to leave her precious corgi here for 2 weeks. She drove over an hour to leave her dog at Elkhound because they would take her on walks in the woods and I told her she could trust them with her dog (who is more like her child). read more

I've had several experiences , including kenneling and training, with Elkhound and they've all been fantastic! A general overview so others know what to expect would include: a location that's near a wooded area which allows them to have plenty of space for dogs to be outside enjoy themselves. There's also a dog park and nature walk path. The actual building itself is not brand new but not run down either. It's clean (with a doggy smell- as expected) and has a very friendly and caring staff. There were so many people dropping off their dogs for doggie day care and the staff knew all of the dogs by name. It was definitely a friendly and happy environment. Now on to my experiences... I kenneled my two dogs along with my parents dogs during the fall, due to a chaotic wedding weekend. They stayed a total of 3 days and seemed to have had a wonderful time! We opted for my rescue dog to receive some training and extra attention by choosing the "Ranch Camper" package. In addition to standard potty breaks, she went walks in the woods, had play time, snacks and training sessions. Our other dogs had the basic option although we paid to add daily walks. We got positive feedback from the staff even though none of the dogs had been kenneled before and were quite nervous. This was a huge plus considering that my rescue dog is very scared and anxious, which sometimes leads to aggressive type behavior. They were very understanding and worked so well with her. We were also able to pick them up on a Sunday afternoon which was really convenient. I know they offer other services such as grooming, doggie day care and training services. My rescue has also received training from Kevin and it was very beneficial. I'm very impressed with the facility, staff and quality of care available to the dogs! I just love dog people :) read more

Excellent experience. Boarded Shimo, my 4 month old Samoyed for 3 days, and when I went to pick him up he was so happy and energetic. Came out a bit dirty, but that just means he had alot of fun outside! I was originally worried that as a young puppy, the experience would be overwhelming for him, but he showed no sign of fear from entering on Friday, to leaving on Monday. Now he's back at my feet, playing with his chew toy and falling asleep like nothing happened. Pricing and policies are both very reasonable and affordable. I actually couldn't make the Sunday pick up time, and they accommodated Shimo an extra night no problem, no questions asked. Overall I'm very happy with how they treated my pup! One thing I would recommend doing is giving sort of a status update/summary at the time of pick-up (like when he was last fed or taken out to pee, how he behaved, etc) so I can gauge how he tolerated boarding, be aware of any behavioral issues that need working on, and know where to continue on his daily schedule. I just moved to Belton, Missouri and while I was still in Florida I found Elkhound on the Internet. They are very inexpensive and extremely friendly. We were driving to Missouri from Florida and didn't want to make our cats have to take the 20 hour drive. We flew my 3 cats to Kansas City and the owner picked them up at the airport for me and took care of my babies for 2 days. I even received a phone call from Sara, the owner, before hand just to see what my babies like to eat. This is a great place to board your pets. We decided to board our 60lb mix at Elkhound because they offered a run and outdoor time, and a large dog needs such space. When we dropped Truman off, he was in perfect health. Upon picking him up after just a week, he had an evident tail sprain and eye infection. Vet told us this was likely due to improper care/excessive force, or unsupervised time with other dogs. read more

I just picked up my dog and she looked very happy! I heard she played with other dogs all weekend, and I can tell she's super tired from all that play! This place has tons out outdoor space, which really was a huge plus for me. You can put your dog in the day care portion during their stay, and they will be let out with other dogs throughout the day for open playtime. My dog loves to be outside, and she had plenty of opportunities for that here. Her kennel was an indoor/outdoor, which means she had a private doggie door to go back and forth between and exterior and an inter kennel. Each kennel comes with a soft bed for the dog, and if you forget your food, they have food available at no extra cost. I'm super picky about where I take my dog for boarding, but this place had everything I needed. Definitely will be booking her again for out next trip. read more

While this place always seems great and our dog comes out clean and fresh, I am a little disappointed on how they cheat the consumer. We could have picked up our dog before 3 pm on Sunday, which is when they would charge you for an extra night. However, they are only open from 4-5 pm on Sunday. That in itself is no issue for me. My problem is that they charge an extra $25 for a night because they chose to open after 3 pm. That is not putting the customer first and very disappointing. read more

I have used Elkhound Ranch Kennels twice for my medium-sized corgi - once, for a few days of boarding; and another time, for the Furminator grooming service. Both times, I was very impressed with the service. The owner and employees are knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful - when I called to check up on my dog during his boarding, they gave a lot of reassuring feedback about what a good time he was having. And this past summer when he started shedding heavily, the Furminator service was amazing - it took several hours to complete, but he was much more comfortable afterward. I would definitely use Elkhound Ranch for any future grooming/boarding needs for my dog; and would enthusiastically recommend them to any other pet-owners. They're the best! :) read more

**NEW OWNERS - WARNING!! DO NOT BOARD HERE** I've used Elkhound Ranch in the past and they were wonderful. The owner was responsive, the place was clean, my dog looked forward to visiting. Two years later I bring my 10 month old Great Dane puppy for a two night stay. I could tell immediately it was new owners/management. The place was chaotic, the staff was indifferent. I gave written and verbal instructions for my dog who needed antibiotic twice a day (it also said that on the bottle) and he had specific food instructions (great dane's are picky eaters). When I got him back he was emaciated, dehydrated, and the amount of pills left was not right. They only gave him the antibiotics once a day. To be that apathetic towards a puppy's health when you're in the business of caring for animals is abhorrent. He also smelled of urine and feces but was supposed to have had access to an outside area 24/7. These people do not care about your pet, nor your business, apparently. I've tried getting answers from them but they don't answer their phones or return calls. read more

Left my 6 month old puppy there for a two week board and train. When I picked him up he had sores all over his legs and paws. When I asked why I was told that they weren't there before and they didn't know what happened. After a visit to the vet it was discovered that there were bacterial and fungal infections. Also, I spend a lot of time training my dog and had made pretty good progress on his basic obedience for a 6 month old. I was very excited to see the progress he had made during a two week board and train and was shocked to see that he made no progress and in many ways had regressed. So I spent hundreds of dollars and got back a dog with wounds on his body and no progress made on his training. I've been texting the trainer for 5 days to give me a call to discuss all of this and she has not called me back. read more

Milo is a one year old standard golden doodle. He has been going to Elkhound for daycare for two months now. Prior to this he spent a month with them for training. I was very nervous leaving him there but my fears were relieved. I think the best praise is that Milo is excited to go there. He gets play time while the humans go work and then is happy to come home and rest with us. read more

i would not bring my dog back here. This was our first experience. At dropoff they were not welcoming and ushered our dog off before we could say goodbye. I asked to see the kennel and they wouldn't allow me back. they don't allow blankets, toys or bones. These are all things that make my dog feel comfortable and at home. i was told to take it all with me. I called to check on her and was never called back. I picked her up two days ago and she has been sick and i had to take her to the vet. you can't leave a dog with out any comforts of home! Stay clear of here. read more

My dog came back scared to death, dirty, and covered in her own pee. She had eaten and peed on her bed multiple times, and this is a full grown, independent-natured dog who is perfectly comfortable being crated on a daily basis, and has no history of destructive behavior. I have never seen my dog so desperate to see me. I can only infer that she was left for very long periods without attention or care and wasn't let out to relieve herself often enough. She was obviously very distressed and they acted like it was perfectly normal behavior, so I'm not sure how much their employees know about dogs. I also got a glimpse of some of the kennels and they did not look very well maintained. I will not be going back. read more

I'm pretty disappointed. I left my cat and dog here for a week while I was away for a business trip. Whenever I got my cat back, she was screaming of terror and her collar was stuck on to her leg and the employees didn't even want to fix that. My dog seemed kinda scared and weird too. When I got home, they were so hungry that both my cat and dog ate triple than what they would. I don't think they were feed like supposed too. Also my cat case came back with random throw up on it? Ew. Also, my flight came at 4 so I was late one hour after check out and they charged me extra $150. I'm never taking my pets here again, it might be the cheapest around but I rather have my pets in better care next time. read more

This is by far the best kennel I have boarded my dogs at! I find it hard to believe anyone having a bad experience with Elkhound after boarding my two blue heelers weekly with them for the past year. They have treated my dogs and me both wonderfully and are always flexible with any questions or concerns I have. They have taken my two rescue dogs that were both hyper and one being aggressive with others. With David's help in training they have made Amazing progress. Elkhound has a drop off policy and for good reason, which states after 3 pm a new day starts. However, the one time when I was running late, much the same as the experience another individual had where she stated elkhound overcharged her $150, I had the exact opposite experience. My flight got delayed and I knew I wasn't going to make the 3:00pm deadline; the responsible adult that I am, I called and informed Sara that my flight was delayed. she assured me it wasn't an issue and they would wave the extra charge. At the end of the day there are policies and rules that they have as a business which are clearly stated on the walls, desk and waiver sheet when you board, if you choose not to follow them, that's your own damn fault. I would highly recommend this place, and it's the only place I trust to take care of my pups while I'm traveling for business. We have been boarding our dogs here for several years, and have received excellent care and customer service. I cannot recommend them enough. They treat our dogs like their own, are very flexible, and easy to do business with. We take our 2 dogs to doggie day care 3 days a week, and board them when we go on vacation.
