I can't say enough great things about this place. We were nervous about boarding our little dog and her getting into trouble with big dogs but that has never happened. In fact, our little dog is treated like a rock star and looks happy and freshly bathed when we pick her up from boarding. Such a relief! When my dog was a little puppy, we'd drop him off at their Westport location mainly to burn energy off. He's become a sleepy old man who doesn't need that anymore, but we did need a one-night stay handled. Dog Pawz was good overall. The staff was friendly, and the prices were fair. I called vs booked online in order to avoid any confusion and I like that there wasn't a super strict drop-off or pick-up time. Our weekend was unique in that we had no idea how the schedule would play out (selling our house) and this was a nice perk. During Covid times, they came out to the car to leash him up and take him in. I checked in a few times on their webcam, and I don't know if they can get out from their contract with whoever provides it, but I'd recommend it. It's spotty at best, and difficult to navigate. We gave up because it didn't work. I did notice my little guy sleeping on the floor in the late evening, and we had requested a private room for him which he never received. I wasn't too upset about it, but did mention it to the staff. The manager called quickly and was honest about things (biz picking up as Covid eases, they didn't have one available, and their staff is very new) which I understand. All in all, I liked this spot. I was a tiny bit frustrated that he wasn't able to get what we requested, but at the end of the day it was OK. Oh and I also added a bath for him for just $10 (maybe $15, can't recall) which was so worth it. read more

Pretty sure I've left a review before but in case not here goes. Dog Pawz knows my pup Sam when he comes through door. Sam is so excited to go to doggie daycare he is hard to get a leash on and sometimes they just open the door and follow him in. He loves Dog Pawz. As soon as I turn onto State Line Rd he starts squealing and practically drags me in and he is only 20 pounds. We have taken our dog here since he was born and he loves them. We travel a lot, so we would go out of our way to make sure to be in Kansas City because this was the only place we trusted with our puppy. We haven't been much since they closed down all the locations and moved to one place as there was never an availability due to under staffing/lack of space. We still continued to try because , as I said....our dog loves it here. Yesterday we scheduled a last minute trip and fortunately they had an opening for our dog. I verified that he was current on all his vaccines. We went to drop him off this morning and were asked if he'd had the influenza shot. I told them no he had not. I was told this is a requirement now as of last fall. Not only is this a ridiculous requirement...:but it would have been helpful to know this YESTERDAY when I called verifying his vax status so I could have cancelled his reservation then and found another place to board. Hello, Our dog stayed at your facility from Thursday Morning to this past Sunday . I dropped her off Thursday and everything seemed fine. I was informed how to check in on her via the webcams and trusted that everything was going to be great. On Friday my wife and I checked in serval times on her and noticed right at noon (nap time) all the dogs were put up for the few hours. Once we checked back after nap time we noticed our dog wasn't amongst the others dogs playing. My wife gave it some time but after awhile our dog was never seen, so around 4pm my My wife called the desk and inquired about Our dog. She was told by someone at the desk: "That all Of the dogs that are boarding are staying in there areas due to the amount of dogs and not to overwhelming the Assitants working with them" My wife, then asked the person on the phone if that meant Our dog would be staying in area the rest of the afternoon ... and the person stated " Yes, those dogs that are boarding are only getting the morning session/half day of day care" . Obviously, this was a problem ....but due to being out of town there was nothing we could do at the time. I then came to pick up Our dog on Sunday at 1pm as I was told I could to only show up and wait outside for 25 minutes until someone even unlocked the front doors. I called numerous times while standing out front only to get no one to answer . We just moved to the area and was hoping this was the right place to take our pet. I went there recently to get more information about this place since I work next door.. and I swear to god the woman at the reception desk tried to refer me to her old job in Shawnee saying it was cheaper things and could take care of my other animals and then when I asked about the vet services she referred me to KC spay and neuter.. I was honestly too shocked to speak. I had to get my own information on the little note cards that were sitting on her desk since she wasn't the most knowledgeable about her own job... I would love to get proper information and not be discouraged since I'm pregnant and giving my dog a bath is just too much for me now. Wow. This place just cancelled my reservation and didn't notify me of it. The only reason I found out was because I thought to check my reservation online and saw that it was cancelled. I received no call and no email about it. When I called to inquire about it, I just got a flippant response that they were short staffed and had to cancel the reservation. Poor customer service. I've been boarding my dog here (Leawood location) for years, but I guess since they've moved to the new location they don't know how to run the business anymore. I have generally had a good experience here until they moved to their new location. I had checked in a few times today to see how my pup was doing and noticed that all of the large dogs had been individually kenneled from when I first checked (11am) until I went to grab my girl (215PM). As I drove up, I saw the usual employee who lets them out and monitors their play out smoking and when he finally went back in and to the front desk asked him why they had been kenneled for so long. His response was that it was their nap time from 12-2. That was an obvious lie and now have a puppy with more energy than if I let her run around the house all day. Also, what dogs have a 2hr nap time at a Play & Stay? It's not a prison. If your goal is to find a fun place for your puppy to actually socialize, play and burn energy I'd look elsewhere. Since I'm a full time student and have a part time job as well, I wanted my pup to be able to be free during the day and not in a crate. Dog Pawz is great, they let your dog just walk around and play while they watch them at all times. This place is great for someone who's a busy bee like me. My dog gets to run around and play while I can now relax and have peace of mind while I'm out of the house. I'm willing to fork over $25 a day for my dog to be happy and free instead of in her crate while I'm gone from 7 am to sometimes 5 pm. All I have to ask her is "do you want to go to daycare?" and she knows exactly where she's going. read more

It's a convenient place that's quick and easy to pick up/drop off. However, I don't think they pay much attention to the dogs. I don't think they ever get let out to go potty, my dog always comes home with wet stinky paws which makes me think the dogs just pee on the floor. Last week, I made the mistake of leaving my dogs bark collar on when I dropped her off. I picked her up and she was cowering and scared and I was absolutely heartbroken to realize her collar was on. It makes a loud buzz noise whenever she or another dog near her barks- so it would've been going off the entire time. It's loud enough for me to hear from when she's upstairs and barks. I'm upset that no one cared to take it off while she was there. They obviously don't really look after the dogs. Disappointed. read more

I took our dog Peaches here to get her nails cut and the staff was SO nice. They have two separate procedures for dog paws, one being a trim and the other having the nails filed. We went with the filed route, it's supposed to be better for them. Again, I cannot stress enough how nice the three staff members I encountered were. There were tons of dogs there playing in the 'play' area and everyone looked happy happy happy. We don't really take our dogs to 'play and stay' places but if we did, it would be this one! read more

The web-cam is a great feature offered and we will occassionally logon to see what our Vivien is doing. We also really like that we have the option to pick up Vivi after hours!! The best kept secret is Dog Pawz offers a "self-service dog bath room" which a nice touch. My dog had been going to this location for about 2 years with no major issues so when I boarded him at Dog Pawz while I was on vacation I thought I left him at a place that I could trust. When I picked him up after about 7 days he was breathing heavy, had lost a lot of weight and could hardly make it back my car. He was obviously very sick and I was immediately concerned. He is a 2 year old lab and typically very energetic so this was extremely abnormal for him. I took him straight to the emergency vet where they diagnosed him with pneumonia due to what they thought was probably kennel cough/respiratory virus. He was hospitalized for 2 days in the doggie ICU and thank goodness has now made a full recovery. He had been fully up-to-date on all vaccinations, however, I understand that by boarding him he is still at risk for catching viruses. I don't blame Dog Pawz for him getting a virus but I do blame them for not recognizing his very serve symptoms and notifying myself or taking him to see a vet. Per the emergency vet he could have died had I not taken him in to get help that day. I am extremely disappointed in their obvious neglect and will never be using them again. I did call to notify them that this happened and hardly got an apology. At the very least I would have liked a refund or maybe a legitimate apology as the emergency stay cost thousands of dollars. They said they could not show me where the big dogs stay but there were cameras if I wanted to see. I asked where the cameras were and she said "oops they're off." PLEASE don't take your dog here. I had been going here for grooming about 4 years. I generally had good experiences with a few minor issues. That is until they moved to their new location. My dog 6 years old at the time is a very healthy girl and when I picked her up on one occasion I had to bring her to the vet and she was diagnosed with kennel cough/respiratory virus. They mentioned nothing to me when I could clearly see and hear a really bad caugh. They said that she would not be around the dogs that were boarding so how did she get this?? When I mentioned it the manager she said that older dogs don't get kennel caugh. So I asked her what dogs do get it and she responded only young dogs. I told her the diagnoses and she acted as if my vet didn't know what he was talking about. The reason I kept going is that it is very hard to find a good groomer and she did a good job but after that I kept a close eye on the situation. I always have had bad experiences with the front staff and especially the manager. So I continued to look for a different place. So what broke the camels back sort of speak is this past few visits. Got her back with lots of mats in her fur. So I mentioned it to the front staff because for some reason now I can't talk to my groomer anymore. I received backlash it seems that if you advocate for you baby you get labeled a bad owner. I found out that she is just so busy with so many dogs that she can't give the good service I was so use to getting from her. I tried to pick her up after her being there for an 8hr grooming day and they said she was only washed and not brushed out and that it would be another 1 1/2 hr or so to conplete the service. I told them that I had a vet visit to take her to and that I would only pay for what was done. By the was who takes 8hrs to just bath a dog and nothing more?? Anyway they rushed me into a room to talk to a vet. I dont' know why I needed to take to the vet she doesn't know me or my dog... She said she want to help take care of the situation. I didn't have a situation I just wanted to get my dog and ONLY pay for what was done. My God daughter happen to be with me in the waiting room and she said when they hurried me into the room the manager came out of her office and the front desk people told her. She said she responded by yelling my name out and roleing her eyes and hurring back to where ever they put me in front of all the clients that were waiting in the waiting room. Talk about unprofessional that most certainly was and then some! I feel that it is a conveyor belt of dogs going in and out of there. They want as many dogs as possible to go through there with little to no reguard about how the job is done and how the dogs are treated. So the next day I get a message on my voice mail tell me I need to call them so we can discuss the situation that happened. The manager proceeded to berate me and how I handled the situation and that I upset her employees when I told they I would only pay for what was done and that I was no longer allowed to come back. I responded that I had no intentions on coming back with the poor service I received there and BY THE WAY YOU ARE FIRED you will no longer have the privilege of taking care of my Dog. Please stand up and say NO to the CONVEYOR BELT BUSINESSES OUT THERE. THAT CARE NOTHING FOR OUR ANIMALS. IT'S ONLY ABOUT MONEY FOR THEM. read more

THIS IS THE SECOND REVIEW I HAVE LEFT FOR DOG PAWZ. Somehow my 1st post has disappeared. This incident happened in the Fall of 2012-my dog was 5 months old. STAY FAR AWAY!!!!!!!!!!! We started taking our Labrador retriever to Dog Pawz as soon as he was eligible for day care, but his attendance at this facility did not last very long. I took him on a Tuesday & picked him up with a very positive report. I decided to take him the next day (Wednesday), as I had a long day of classes & felt that my dog would benefit from socializing all day. About 11am I received a disturbing phone call saying that my dog had been "put up" due to an incident that happened earlier that morning & I needed to pick him up as soon as I could. I was very upset & asked for an explanation of the situation. My dog supposedly had "aggressively bitten a worker." I apologized for this unexpected & unacceptable behavior, but I did NOT BELIEVE THESE PEOPLE FOR ONE SECOND. To this day (8 months later) my dog has NEVER bit another person or animal. He is so gentle & sweet. I have seen this with my own 2 eyes & he has visited 2 other area doggy daycare facilities who report the same! The daycare attendant went on to say "he was very aggressive the past few times you have brought him here." REALLY???! His report card stated that he had a blast & was well-behaved. If I had known that my dog had been aggressive, I never would have taken him 2 days in a row. BOTTOM LINE: they lied about my dogs behavior in order to increase profit, they wanted my money. As soon as I was off of work, I went straight to Dog Pawz to pick up my pup. I asked to speak to the person my dog supposedly bit-I wanted to see the damage- but of course this person's shift was over & I was unable to speak him. The front desk manager told me I could bring my dog back after he was fixed. As a new dog mom, I was traumatized & very upset. Dog Pawz did not seem to care but they blamed my dogs "aggressive" behavior on the fact that he had not been fixed yet. These people do not know what they are doing & they do not know how to run a doggy daycare business. As a long time nanny, I know how to handle misbehavior, & this is unacceptable treatment for a dog or human. I WOULD NEVER SET FOOT IN THIS FACILITY AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!! Instead, please go to Woof's or Pooches Paradise. read more

We used this business to board our dog, Mia, while we went on vacation for 5 days. Reviews seemed great, even if we weren't thrilled that they didn't have an outdoor area for them to play. They did have a big play area indoors and even a doggy cam app on which you could watch your dog play. When we dropped her off, Mia proceeded to immediately pee and poop on the floor, and they were awesome about it, graceful about our embarrassment and apologies. Like I said, seemed great. Then the sh*t started, literally. When we picked her up, not only did she reek, she was covered in dog urine on her legs, tail, and face. If they stay more than 3 nights or something, they're supposed to get a complimentary bath (probably to hide the fact that they're playing in their own excrement all day, but that's just a biased assumption). She did not get that bath. But fine. Not a big deal. We may think our dog is a queen and find it below her to be covered in piss, but not everyone shares our opinion so we got over it. To be fair, we picked her up at 2:00 when we were scheduled for 4:30. They later told us that she would've gotten bathed at 4:00, but my cynical side believes that to be a bit convenient. Yet it gets worse, people. After getting her home, she was sleepy and uninterested in things like saving us from the pizza man when he delivered our order. We worried, but figured it was just sheer exhaustion from being away. The next day, she still didn't recover, and started refusing her coveted walks. Not a huge deal, but a little more worried. Then the following morning, yesterday, the puking started. Piles and piles of vomit that looked suspiciously like shit by mid-day -- 16 to be exact. We rushed her to the vet, to find that due to a virus "that she most likely picked up from boarding" -- she was literally impacted with poop. Her entire colon was filled with crap (remember the vomit? Think about that one.). Our little queen had to be subjected to an enema, fluids, blood tests, x-rays, etc. I'm not one of those insane pet parents who treats my animals like my children, ok maybe a little, but you try getting a tube filled with water shoved up your butt. Or vomiting poop like an episode of South Park. The $445 bill aside, this upset us. Naturally, we wanted Dog Pawz to deal with this issue. They offered to refund our entire boarding costs, around $150, and give her a complimentary bath (but remember, she should've already gotten one, so this was kind of weak). We accepted, minus the bath because she's never stepping paw in there again. Fast forward to today, when we had to bring our queen back to the vet because she's still not eating or drinking, so the vet could administer IV fluids. The vet called Dog Pawz, and because he can't 100% say that it came directly from there, they decided to halve our previously promised refund of $150, to $75. Excuse my language, but WTF. Mia has not spent time anywhere but boarding, she has not been around any other dogs, and she fell ill "within the typical 24-48 hour period" after picking it up. Which means that previous to the 24-48 hour period, she was at Dog Pawz. I don't care if you don't pay our vet bill, that's fine. Just like kids get sick from daycare, dogs can too. But don't promise a refund and then take it back. That is beyond unprofessional, it's unethical and shows exactly how poorly this company is run. The lesson I learned from this: Never go to Dog Pawz. TL;DR -- took our dog to boarding for 5 days, covered in dog urine and sick as hell when we got her back, promised a full refund, then later told we're only getting half of it back. This is a great place for dogs to play/stay overnig. The big selling point for me is that it is CAGE-FREE! The dogs get to run around and play with each other. They have a very welcoming staff and I know they take very good care of all the dogs because you have access to their cameras. This place goes above and beyond for my dog! I recently moved to the area and have a two-year-old English bulldog who is paralyzed in the back legs and can't walk without the use of a wheelchair. I first tried Pooches Paradise and they refused to take my dog - they said he would need too much attention and they weren't properly staffed for that. Dog Pawz welcomed Boomer with open arms from day one and quickly adapted to his different needs. He is always so excited to go in, and is exhausted by the end of the day (which is great, because when he's home alone he doesn't have many ways to get his energy out)! We had started taking our dog Golden Retriever to Dog Pawz right when he turned 4 months. I had heard about the daycare through a friend. He seemed to enjoy it but then caught the canine papilloma virus there. That was very frustrating and upsetting that the workers and staff were unaware of the health of the dogs in their daycare. It took Louie about a month or so to build up the immunity to get rid of the virus. I called and complained and expressed my concern and I basically was told it it something that just happens in social settings among dogs. That was not good enough for me and I think they should be far more cautious and aware of the health of the dogs coming to play at daycare. I have not taken him to Dog Pawz since that happened and I don't plan to take him again. Louie also came home smelling like dog urine/poop every time we sent him. I don't believe the dogs ever go outside and just relieve themselves on the ground inside. (Another reason I won't take him back) We also sent lunch with him to eat while he was there and they forgot to feed it to him once. They said he just didn't eat it- but I know they were lying because he never passes up a meal. The only fun thing I did like was the Doggy Cam- I was able to watch him through an app on my phone. But I am willing to forgo that and know my dog is safe, healthy, and happy at another daycare or my own home. read more
