The worst expensive meal I think I've ever had. Fresh Catch-Grouper fingers, way over cooked but quite a few of them on the plate, inedible coleslaw-big chunks/slices of cabbage, a little mayo and ALOT of pepper (I sent it back and exchanged for their krab pasta salad which was good).....French fries were cold. Was in Steinhatchee for the Fiddler Crab Festival and stopped at Kathi's Krab Shack for lunch after the parade. By chance we were able too slid in before the crowd and was definitely not disappointed. Only got a photo of the fried oysters and I must say they were on point well done. The place was hopping and so was our server who did a fabulous job from the moment we sat down to the time we walked out, super great and there was no wanting of anything from her, no matter how swamped they got. Great service under immense lunch rush. Also had a dozen fresh on the half shell that were absolutely the best I have had in a long time (sorry ate too fast for a photo). Only ding was the potato salad side. Was completely tasteless and probably the absolute worst I have ever seen. Can't wait to come back for the Grouper. A friend had it and was great. read more

So great and affordable! Peel and eat shrimp, $20 for two dozen medium shrimp served hot and delicious with Bay seasoning and drawn butter. Couldn't eat but half of them. Big perfect hush puppies as good as I've had. Karen had fried shrimp that were a beautiful dozen with crispy fries. Atmosphere casual country and service fast and friendly. Before we go on a trip, we always do research about the best places to eat. This one was rated high so we decided to try it out. Our first red flag (and I will say it almost made us just turn around and leave) was the surly hostess who seated us. Although the place was not busy at the time (5ish on a Friday night) she wanted to seat us at the bar. We told her we preferred a table so her next move was to put us at a table right in front of the live band stage. Did I mention they were NOT busy?! So we were jerks and moved ourselves to a side table. Our server was super sweet and friendly. We started with the half dozen oysters which ended up being $24! We have been to high end restaurants (Michelin) and never paid $4 per piece. I got the grilled fish which came as a bunch of tough pieces with very little flavoring. The best thing on my plate? The greens. Hubs got blackened scallops. He enjoyed those. Another great Steinhatchee restaurant. If you like crabs, Kathi's is the place to go in Steinhatchee. It's right across the street from where I grew up and it's probably one of the busiest places in town. Great food and good waitresses! Maybe a 3 1/2 stars - it's your basic down home redneck bar with mostly fried food. A few very good selections (crab cakes, boiled taters, hush puppies and grits). Decent cover band but very loud. A couple of barflies way too obviously ogling every young lady that moved detracts from the otherwise relaxed atmosphere. read more

A group of us ate there recently. This place was recommended by our Air B&B host and it lived up to the recommendation. Two split a seafood platter and the rest ordered individual seafood dishes, like fried oysters, fried snapper, and other things. Everything we great and it was a lot more food that we could ever finish. I think the seafood platter alone would feed 4. We also got some raw oysters, which were very good. It did seem a little pricey, but the food and service were great. My only complaint was the music was way too loud. we asked to be placed as far away as possible and they put us inside -- in the AC -- and then turned down the volume to a better level there (to applause from several tables). It's nice that they offer live music, but some folks want to be able to have conversation while they eat. read more

My wife and I were celebrating our anniversary and decided to make the trip to Kathi's from Valdosta Georgia and couldn't have been more disappointed. The service was good but the low country boil that I have had on other visits was terrible the shrimp was whole with eyes and Antares still attached were mushy. The crab legs were small and overcooked,the corn and sausage were also mushy. I do hate this my other visits have always been a good experience. read more

Wow! We were in Steinhatchee for one night and we wanted to go somewhere where we could bring our corgi. They were so accommodating! We went right to the front entrance and she immediately asked if we wanted a bowl of water for Our dog! Then she let us back to what is mostly inside seating. They had live music that was excellent, and the food was very good as well. We had a new waitress who was phenomenal and had one of the veteran waitresses watching her the whole time to make sure we had the best experience possible. My husband was dying for Apalachicola Bay oysters, and he was not disappointed with the dozen that he received. We also had a pound of pill and eat shrimp. That was very tasty. We also recommend the smoked mullet fish dip. It was a very generous portion that we ended up taking half of it home. Food was great and the ambience was great as well. We will definitely go to Kathy's crab shack again when we are back in Steinhatchee. read more

This is an old Florida style restaurant. It is a busy outdoor restaurant. Service is good and helpful. Full bar . Live music on weekends. My wife ordered the crab claws. They were good. I ordered the whole fried flounder that was delicious. I had a side salad and okra for sides. We shared the flounder. Our friends had the ribeye steak that was huge. The owner passed out steak samples earlier. They were delicious. He does the steaks on a green egg out back. This is the best food in Steinhatchee we had. We highly recommend. read more

Really kind of funny because everybody told us to go to this place and it was so packed we almost walked away. We were seated in about 30 minutes and we spent that 30 minutes at the bar in which we made several friends we put us in a room which was like the front of the house, and it kind of looked like somebody's house. You can order anything from a simple dinner to a large platter of all kinds of seafood one of their specialties is shrimp and crab and crayfish on a platter that comes to you for like four people. I ordered the fish and chips and my wife had a fish sandwich. Both orders came out fairly promptly and we enjoyed our dinner thoroughly. I do have to say that I was a little jealous of the people next to us to got a very large platter of seafood, and seem to be enjoying every bite of it. The drinks were good and the food was good. Live music on the weekends. Both indoor Z& outdoor (covered) seating. Food: The peel & eat shrimp is tasty. Grouper was TINY. Kathy's Krab Salad barely has crab. Maybe one small piece per bowl. Flounder was incredibly salty that I had to peel off the grilled parts to try to stomach it. Just not worth the $40+ price tag at all. Astonished at the price and what you get. This place was so good we went back the next night! Drink specials were unbelievable and food was large portions and so good. Tonight I had the freshest stone crabs ever! Last night was grouper bites and fried shrimp dinners. We took food home both nights. The sides are plentiful and delicious especially the red potatoes and shrimp pasta. On a Saturday night, expect this place to be busy. For a table for two, waited 45minutes, our waitress came to our table 10min after we sat and we ordered our food then we waited TWO HOURS for our food to come out! While I appreciate the lady walking around offering bites of steak while we waited, however she said "just grab it with your hands" and all I could think of is who else has been touching the meat they've been passing around. I can't image that this passes a health code in a restaurant, let alone the last thing I want it is to catch some sickness. Was shocked they did this. The manager came out and apologized to us on the delay of food and gave us our dinner free, which we appreciated. We ended up eating at 9:30pm when we initially arrived and put our name on the list at 6:40pm. At first, when our food was about 30minutes late we began asking about our food and kept either getting excuses or they were confused, "they're plating your food now", not sure which is the truth but waiting two ours for a dinner for two people, we won't be back but appreciate the managers attention to make it right and his apology. read more

Excellent food tonight. We were greeted at the door and sat immediately next to the heat lamp since it is so cold at this time of year. The food was very good. Excellent service. I would highly recommend this place. We were very surprised to be able to get a whole fresh fried fish, it was flounder. I ordered the fresh blackened shrimp and they give you a lot. All the sides were excellent. Haven't seen whole fried fish like that since traveling to the islands. Go here, you will not be disappointed! You have three restaurants here and this is the highest rated and that is for a reason. Clean place, friendly staff, great location and the best fresh seafood. Great customer service. They are the best in town. The only negative I would give is that they are pricey. I will go back if and when in this area. read more

Very good casual eatery for such a small town in a remote stretch of Florida's Big Bend. We found the large casual, beach themed, outdoor dining room empty at 4pm on a beautiful Thursday afternoon, but the entire town was very quiet so I wasn't surprised by the lack of patrons. We were instantly greeted and offered our choice of tables. When our super friendly and attentive server, Emma, told us about the daily special, I knew what I was having... a blackened mahi sandwich, which was awesome. Fresh blackened mahi filet, crisp lettuce, tomato & tarter sauce on a great brioche bun. Decent fries & margarita, too! I'd definitely stop in again if I find myself in the area. The ambiance was what I expected and the service was alright even though the waitress was nameless and her recommendation was from what "others" order. The Food was Underwhelming! I ordered the whole Flounder, it was over cooked and served with exactly One over-cooked hush puppy and two unimaginative sides. Most disappointing of all: the food is overpriced. I loath giving negative reviews and I hope this one will help this establishment find an opportunity for improvement. Disappointing We came here for dinner on Super Bowl Sunday 2020, and we were a little underwhelmed. The staff told us that we had to place our orders quickly, because the kitchen was closing in the next few minutes (it wasn't even 7 pm). We ordered a crab cake dinner with a side of steamed broccoli and baked potato, and a grilled prawn salad. The crab cakes were really tasty and the grilled prawns were delicious, but a lot of the lettuce in our salad was past its best with brown edges and specks. We had to pick out all the brown pieces and put them aside - not easy in the poor lighting. Half way through the game, the staff made it clear that they wanted to close the restaurant and for everyone to go home!! It's a pity because this place has so much potential! read more

Seems to be the only solid place in Steinhatchee. We ate there two time this last weekend. First night I had the blackened shrimp with full understanding that this may be bar food based on the atmosphere. I was dead wrong. These folks know how to cook while keeping that dive bar vibe going. Sides were great. Entree was great for myself and my wife.
