People forget that this restaurant started in a little hole in the wall on the South side on 14th. That's how long my friends and I have been going and we moved on to the new location in Clive. Even though the new location is in a strip mall they have white linen table cloth and nice China. Their service is fast and attentive. It still serves serves Nepalese and Indian food, including naan, lamb, goat, and vegetarian dishes. It's still one of the hidden gems of our area. Very flavorable, with large portions my favorite is still lamb Briyan I love the Saffron flavored rice.(Gosht). Although most biryanis are on the milder side, this do pack a bit of a punch, the spice is real, I usually ask for no additional spice or as little as possible. The chicken curry is also one of my favorites. I also love their garlic nan and their version of pot stickers (chicken mommo) food comes out hot and fast. I still miss the Nepalese beer that they used to get but they have some Indian beer and Japanese and fountain drinks They also have a lunch buffet It's a great place with good food, wonderful staff and a nice atmosphere.

Tried the lunch Buffett at Kathmandu over the weekend. We have dabbled in Indian cuisine, but figured the best way to try things were through a Buffett. The dining area was roomy. We walked in and it was pretty busy, but still plenty of tables where you seat yourself. We were waited in right away where we ordered our drinks and then were shown the way to the Buffett. Plenty of food in each tray on the Buffett and looked hot and fresh. The butter naan was cooked perfect with flavor. I was very impressed with the cooked cabbage. There was no sour taste and it still had crunch. My favorite was the chicken 65, very tender and so much flavor, not spice. The chicken tikki masala was interesting because it didn't taste or look like any tikki masala I'd had before. It was good, but not as near as much flavor as the chicken 65. You can go back however many times you need and there's ice cream as well. For all the options, it was well worth the price.

I was introduced to this restaurant by some friends that love Indian food. The restaurant is cozy. It will quickly fill up as we sat and talked, waiting for one of our late friends to arrive. Nicely set table and yummy smells in the air. Everyone was courteous and gave us ample time to review the menu. I had lots of questions for my friends and what they were getting. Since I was interested to taste some new things my friends were happy to order what they enjoyed and share a few bites. There are options on the menu for anyone who might not be ready to dive into the unknown. I ordered the Chicken Chow Mein and Garlic Naan. My friends ordered their favorite meals and Cheese Naan, Butter Naan, and Kashmiri Naan. They are all delicious options in the Nann department. The food came out hot and delicious. The was so much food on our little table. My Chicken chow mein was really good and there was enough for take home for another meal. I enjoyed trying the Matar Paneer which is described as Indian cheese cubes tossed and sauteed with bell peppers, onions and tomatoes. I also enjoyed the steamed Chicken Momo. I got to try some new things and know that I would enjoy coming back.

I love Indian Food and am always looking for new restaurants to eat at so I was eager to try Kathmandu, a gem recommended by a fellow Yelper. Although our server was quiet, the service was great! The server ensured we had drink refills throughout the meal. Inside the restaurant was quiet and clean! Although not too big inside, the seating was plenty for a Saturday evening. Eager to try my favorite Indian dish, I opted for the Chicken Vindaloo but the spice level 3 wasn't very spicy and fell short of my expectations. Next time I will go higher than spice level 3. I tried the Lamb Sekuwa, and I still am not a fan of lamb. I look forward to trying something else next time I visit!

This was quite a surprise. The food was just amazing. Was not expecting the bold flavors. This is a must go place to eat. Especially if you like spicy food as I do.

02/11/2023 We stopped back again last night with our son and again enjoyed the experience. I'm also happy to report that they made improvements following my initial review regarding poor lighting (and clutter) in the restaurant. The lighting was much better, enabling me to take some better-quality pictures (see below and notice the difference between the old and new). From this, I increased the Atmosphere rating to a 4*. We ordered Lamb Curry (see picture), Chef Special Grill Platter (see picture) and Coconut Chicken Curry (see picture) along with Garlic & Butter Naan (see picture). We really enjoyed all of them - with the Chef Special Grill Platter providing the most food (including full chicken drumsticks) and the Coconut Chicken Curry having the best flavor (even though it my son ordered mild and I prefer spicy). I ordered the Lamb Curry as Hot on the spicy level and my wife ordered the Chef Special Grill Platter as Medium...but I'm suspicious that they mixed those two up, as hers was the spiciest at the table and I ordered extra spice for the Lamb Curry. Service was good for drink orders and food orders as well as a follow up shortly after we were served to check on spice level (and bring more spice...). Following that though, we ran out of rice and wanted another bowl but after unsuccessfully waiting for our server, I walked over to the kitchen area and asked for another bowl. Overall was still a very good experience and we really liked all of the food, so I wouldn't hesitate to return and would recommend it as one of the better Indian / Himalayan restaurants where I've eaten.

For my main, I had the pollo saltado, the flavors were excellent. I the only complaint I had was that it was so hot temperature wise that I kept burning my mouth from being too impatient to let it cool a little bit. Like probably most Americans, I haven't tried a lot of South American cuisine so I didn't know what to expect. I guess I was expecting something like Mexican food. Well, it's definitely a lot different than Mexican food. Peruvian food isn't very spicy and the seasonings are different, yet still tasty. There a big Chinese influence on Peruvian food, too. I got the Lomo Saltado, a popular Peruvian dish with stir-fried beef, onions and tomatoes served with rice and French fries. My husband got the Chaufa al Wok, an oriental Peruvian fried rice with chicken. The fries kind of threw me at first. I wasn't expecting that. The dish was very good and had a nice flavor. My husband loved his dish and thought it was delicious. With both of our dishes it was interesting to see how much of a Chinese influence there is. What my husband absolutely loved the most is their homemade horchata. It tasted different than Mexican horchata so he asked what was in it. Our server said it was made was cacao beans instead of just rice and cinnamon. It had a pale brown color to it, too. I also liked the seasoned corn nuts that came with two different sauces--a sweet one and savory one. We both thought the prices were a little high but not so much that we wouldn't come back. The service was very good. Our server was friendly and helped us decide what to order. She was very knowledgeable about the menu items. At the end of our meal both she and the owner (I think) asked us how we liked everything and if there was anything they could have done to make things more enjoyable. I mentioned that my food came out much earlier than my husband's so I was almost done by the time his came out. The owner apologized for the wait and we really appreciated that. They also serve empanadas, pupusas and tamales. We're going to try these the next time we come back. Someone at the table next to us ordered the pupusas and they looked yummy. We were pleasantly pleased with how tasty the food was despite being a lot different than what we were expecting.

We were there on a Sunday so I suspect a lot of other people were taking advantage of the Sunday dinner for two like we were. We were greeted when we came in the door and the service from the time we entered until the time we left was outstanding. As we are celebrating our anniversary, our table was decorated for that which was a nice touch. We looked over the very extensive menus and did settle back in on the $99 dinner for two. In theory it is smaller portions than some of their other dishes, but there was more than enough food there for the two of us. We got the filet mignon, which was wonderfully prepared and an outstanding cut of meat. We got the 50-50 potatoes, and asked later what the 50-50 meant and discovered it's 50% potato and 50% butter and cream. They are delicious but decadent! We also got the asparagus which was very good. It had a wonderful sauce, and was tender and flavorful. We also each got the wedge salad which was almost a meal in itself. And we each got the carrot cake for dessert. We had to bring a lot of the carrot cake home because we were quite topped off at that point. The carrot cake is a slightly different twist than some, but very good nonetheless. The wine list is very good and prices are what you would expect at an establishment of this type. All in all, I would definitely go back and try some other things. If you're into oysters, they have quite a selection of those, but that's not really my jam.

Good morning! Good afternoon! Good evening! Whenever you are reading this...!…read more Owned by and operated by Simon Goheen. I've eaten at Simon's before, but not in quite a while. The last time may have even been before I started writing reviews... And I don't know why. If I had to pick a metro restaurant to label as magical.... Akin to how a child sees Disney... Simon's would be that spot for me. Let's start with the basics. When you arrive at Simon's you will find a small parking lot to the West of the property. There is also some street parking available on adjacent streets and in front of the restaurant. At open there will often be a line waiting outside to get into Simon's as they unlock the doors. Reservations are available for groups of 6+. Seating inside the main restaurant is booths, low top tables, and chairs, and seats at the bar. There is a waiting area one door to the West of the main restaurant... If you like photo ops the furniture and art in the waiting area are going to be right up your alley...! I love the vibe in both the restaurant and the waiting area! Dimly lit and a very relaxed feel to both spaces. It's one of those spots where you feel comfortable in shorts and polo or in a three piece suit. This time at Simon's was with a party of nine with 530 PM reservations on a Thursday evening. I was greeted right away as I walked in and two of us were already seated. I took my seat and our server introduced herself and took drink orders as we waited for the rest of our group. Two of my friends were greeted with hugs and handshakes from Simon and our server. Say you're a regualr without saying you're a regular...! I'm not going to remember everything ordered, but here's what I can remember seeing at the table... 1x Old fashioned (mine) 1x Baked artichoke dip 2x Spicy three cheese stuffed mushrooms (I'd ordered one of these) 2x Mushroom crostini 1x Garlic cheese bread 1x Vodka pasta w/ Grazianos sausage (seafood bisque on the side) 1x Chicken parmesan 1x Pork DeBurgo 1x Cordon Bleu 1x Seafood Cioppino and side salad with the house dressing (mine) 1x Shrimp & scallops 3x I have no idea... Lol Complimentary Red Velvet Cake The appetizers hit the table. It didn't seem like much time had passed after ordering, but that's how it is when you're in great company. We'd all worked together for over a decade or more and still keep in touch. Everything was spot on! I was particularly impressed with the mushroom crostini. So savory and then the contrast of the textures between the mushroom spread itself and the toast points... So good! I enjoyed my salad with the house parmesan ranch too. Soon it was on to the main show. I can only speak to my meal and a couple of shared bites. Service throughout the meal was perfect. We couldn't have asked for better. Both our server and Simon checked on us regularly and other staff was dropping by with refills and whatever else may have been needed during the course of our meal. I hadn't had a good Seafood Cioppino since Irina's took it off their menu and I was hesitant to order it knowing how good some of the other available items are at Simon's... It didn't dissapoint. Not in the slightest... The noodles were cooked perfectly and so was the shrimp and scallops. The spicy white wine and red cream sauce had a little kick, my forehead may have glistened a little, but it wasn't overwhelming. I really enjoyed this dish. My friend seated next to me offered me a bit of his Pork DeBurgo. Served in three medallions. I could have sworn it was filet mignon... Melt in your mouth tender. I would have never expected that from a pork dish! And of course I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the red velvet cake. Offered as a complimentary end to our meal. I grew up with a great red velvet cake. My mom used to make it for every birthday in our house. Hers was moist (and yes I know some people hate that word...) and the frosting was sweet. She used more of a whipped marshmallow creme frosting instead of a traditional cream cheese base, but the idea is the same. So many people dry out red velvet cake... One bite of this dessert done well brings back SO many memories. Simply said Simon's does it right. After as close to a perfect meal as I've ever had... Some of us said our goodbyes and a few of us reconvened in the waiting area to visit a little more before taking off. Simon stopped in and chatted with us. We talked about the meal, the art on the walls, the recent changes to the waiting area itself... He was the perfect host and is everything you want to see in a business owner! Personable, attentive, and someone who realizes that the key to a successful business is doing things the right way...consistently.
