Longtime visitor, always great service and top quality food. All sorts of fancy bottled drinks, hipster health food, scones, brownies and croissants. Very popular for the wifi and freelance laptop set to stake out in the mornings, and always busy! Cute interior decor and some spotlighted books - make sure you check out their bookstore & smaller coffee spot down the road across from the train station. If the weather is nice, sitting on the patio with a friend and a coffee before or after a train is a treat. The avocado toast is a must. I'm not a fan of places that are populated by the Me-firsts. Buy a single coffee or iced tea, pull out your laptop and spend the next 2 hours surfing the net while tying up a table. On the flip side, I don't know how often these folks come in and, who knows, maybe they drop a hun or 2 every month. But on my visit, it's a whole lot of coffee cups and laptops. (Not that it matters, but Starbucks in Yorktown has the same problem.) Anyway, my Falafel sandwich was good, but fell apart at the first bite. My new favorite place in Katonah! The "toast sandwiches" and coffee cannot be beat! My favorites so far are the avocado toast and salmon toast -- so delicious! Plus that iced coffee is really incredible. I haven't tried many of their grocery items, but many items are local, which is a great way to support small business. read more

The Reading Room is one of my favorite places. I think the staff gets exhausted by the rude and entitled affluent patrons. I have seen some people (almost always someone who is wealthy and lacking graciousness) talk to the staff like they are peasants. Having worked in food service, I sympathize with them. Still, they provide quality food and the best coffee in town. Could use more seating. They should really expand into the building across the street, or next door. I think once sewers are put in downtown, the Reading Room will be able to address some of the problems that are currently not in their control. Affluent people should not be rude to staff, but that is not realistic. The staff should remember that they are able to rise above the rude people and endeavor to find ways to keep up their morale in the face of entitlement. Rude, wealthy customers are a given, in areas like this. It is the staff who has the power to transcend the pettiness and create a friendly vibe They do an exceptional job in terms of product, quality and service. Well merchandised. Very cute spot! I really like this place for its ambiance. This is a house with the lower floor converted into a cafe. They have a bunch of different coffee options, pastries and hot food. I only had coffee but it also looked like you could buy natural or organic speciality foods too. I happened to go on a weekday when it was cold and rainy so the place was fairly empty. I imagine if you were aiming to have brunch on the weekend, you'd have to get it to go because their seating is really limited. I love the leather bound books and the small reading corner. I actually didn't like my cappuccino at all though. It was very bitter and mostly foam, but I'd definitely go back for the experience and order a tea next time! read more

Typically pretty good, but the coffee consistency is all over the place. I always order a flat-white or a cappuccino and the ratio of milk, foam and espresso is completely random. Seems like how good your coffee completely depends on who makes it that day. Very frustrating for a 6 dollar small flat-white. read more

I live in Bedford Hills and love to go here whenever I have an excuse to go out for lunch. I've had their vegan soups: cauliflower and tomato - both had a creamy, smooth texture with fantastic flavor. I adore the vegetable sandwich with goat cheese - I prefer it pressed so the ciabatta gets an enjoyable crunch to it. My boyfriend and Dad both enjoyed the Cubano sandwich. I enjoyed eggs on delicious multigrain bread, and there are many add-ons to include in the sandwich. You can sit and read a communal newspaper or stroll around the place, which doubles as a gourmet food shop/bookstore.
