At this point, the GPS was telling us we would be about five minutes late, so we decided to call ahead to let the spa know, worried we might lose our spots or be charged a fee. To our surprise and relief, the owner answered with kindness and reassurance. She told us everything would work out and that we would still have a perfect experience. Her warm, calming response completely eased our anxiety when she could have just as easily been strict or unwelcoming. We arrived exactly five minutes late, but the staff immediately accommodated our first group while the rest of us waited in the front office, chatting with the owner. As we talked about our car troubles and mentioned we were planning to buy zip ties to hold the undercover in place, she quietly made a phone call. Just ten minutes later, her husband showed up with a handful of zip ties for us. It was such a thoughtful gesture that showed how much they truly care about their guests. When it was finally my turn, I chose the Lomi Lomi massage. I was a little nervous because I wanted light pressure without it being too soft or superficial, and I also have a low tolerance for pain. My masseuse delivered exactly what I hoped for, with the perfect balance of gentle yet effective technique. At one point, I drifted into such a deep state of relaxation that my thoughts faded away into complete stillness. It felt like slipping into a meditative state of pure bliss. The beachside setting made the entire experience even more magical. The sound of the waves replaced the need for any background music, seagulls added to the atmosphere, and occasional breezes off the ocean cooled the air in the most refreshing way. Hanalei Day Spa went above and beyond, offering not just skilled massages but genuine kindness and hospitality. Even though their schedule was fully booked, they made us feel welcomed and never like a burden. After 22 years in business, it is clear why they have built such a strong reputation. After experiencing the treatment we got, I do NOT recommend this yoga studio. The owner (the younger one, not the mom) told us there were NO openings in classes this week. When she learned we were not residents, she became extremely off putting and short with us. We thanked her and went to look around the small store a bit in shock. Within 3 minutes another woman walked in, and she told her they had a number of openings in most of their classes available this week. I couldn't believe it. I wanted to say something, but chose not to. Clearly, this yoga studio is NOT WELCOMING to visitors. Yoga shouldn't be about discriminating who should take your classes or not. We are aware that it's a "private studio", but all that means to them is that this studio picks and chooses who comes in. Doesn't seem very "spread peace & love". We are from east coast city area and very familiar with snobbery, but this owner takes the cake. I would recommend to the owner, that if you aren't going to welcome, or don't value people "visiting" Princeville who are hoping to share the joy of yoga (even though tourism is the number one industry in Kauai) then have a sign stating only residents are welcome, because the way you make a visitor feel simply coming into your studio/store in a tourist shopping center is sad. Do better!
