Not Yoga- the instructor did very little Yoga- I'm not sure he has ever taught yoga. It was more arm circles and long stretches. We did do a Warrior 2 pose but that was so the instructor could take a picture for their social media account. This was so disappointing, we were frustrated we wasted our money. read more

I went to Kauai Yoga on the Beach this week with Anya in front of the Lava Lava resort in Kapa'a, located right next to the ocean. I think the class happens every Tuesday/Thursday at 8:30AM and the fee was 20$ each. They provide some mats to share and recommend you cover them with a beach towel. The teaching included an opening meditation as well as a flow and some closing stretches. I would say the class was all-levels and appropriate for beginner yogis, and I think more advanced students could adjust as they see fit to do more challenging poses as well as enjoy the mindfulness opportunity of being near the ocean. I think everyone would enjoy this beautiful class with the delightful Anya. She also taught in combination with her fiance, which was very pleasant. I would recommend this class as a nice peaceful thing to do while visiting the beautiful garden isle of Kauai. read more

Wonderful Beachside yoga class! Anya is lovely and she is such a calming presence teaching this class. It's a perfect setting right by the beach by Lava Lava. Class starts at 8:30 in the morning before the sun gets too hot. There's plenty of space to spread out. She also provides mats for anyone who needs it. Just tried a class with Anya today as I'm staying at the Kauai shores hotel and it's complementary. We were about 15 people and settle by the ocean. It was so so relaxing and we did a lot of stretching & meditation. I really liked it! It wasn't the typical sometimes difficult yoga poses which I actually was happy about lol! I just returned from my trip to Kauai. Out of the 7 days I was on the Garden Island, I joined Anya for yoga on the beach four times; that is how much I enjoyed the class. Anya's approach is very holistic, and she gives clear instructions and guides you to listen to your body to move in the best way for you. Aloha! I enjoyed our instructor, Will as he provided us with GREAT instructions on various movements and breathing techniques. Will's meditation yoga class on the beach was fun, relaxing, and easy to follow. In addition; he brings a dry sense of humor finding creative ways to connect to tourists. This was a really disappointing experience for my husband and I who had read a lot of positive reviews and were excited to try Kauai Yoga on the Beach. Our instructor was Ingrid, though, not Anya and we did not see Ingrid listed in reviews. First, the yoga wasn't exactly on the beach. It's on the grass above the sand a little ways from the beach. The grass was very wet when we got there and my husband now has a rash on his arm from doing yoga poses in the wet grass. It was distracting to be covered in wet grass while doing yoga and detracted from the class. Plus, it makes sense now why the mats were dirty... It must be hard to clean all of the grass stains out of there. Ingrid also started the class early and even though we were there at 8:25, the class was in full swing so it was awkward to get situated in the class and find a place where we could hear Ingrid. Ultimately, we joined the circle of students, but we still couldn't hear Ingrid and you could tell by the looks on others' faces that they were struggling to hear too. The class itself was more of an aerobics class than yoga. There were some non-yoga poses included and the connection between the poses was missing. Often we were shuffling around on our mat to get to the next move rather than there being any kind of yoga flow. This class wasn't targeted at advanced yogis, but the beginners didn't seem to be able to follow Ingrid's guidance either and just looked uncomfortable. I did not feel refreshed or relaxed after the class ended. Based on this experience with Ingrid, I would not recommend the 8:30 am class on Fridays with Kauai Yoga on the Beach. read more

One morning, I happened to be walking on the path near a Kapa'a resort and saw signage for an a.m. yoga class taking place on the beach. It's been a while since I've done yoga on a regular basis and had "broken up" with the former studio I attended. Yoga on the beach seemed like a nice way to reintroduce yoga in to my life. I was lucky to find a Sunrise class the very last morning I was in Kauia a short distance from where I was staying. It was easy to register online and you can opt for either $20 for a drop in class or $49.99 for unlimited classss for a week. I can't think of a better activity for my last day in Hawaii. Anya was very sweet, genuine and teaches her class with obvious joy and appreciation for health, nature and well being. It was a small class, which began with sun salutations with our feet dipped in the ocean. After some breathing and meditation we then move back to our mats on the sand for a modified Vinyaysa flow. Excellent instruction, all-around good vibes, amazing scenery and a unique perspective of yoga has reinvigorated my interest in practicing. It also helped me be less sad I was leaving Kauia and grateful for my amazing trip. Definitely try it out-you can modify your practice with Anya to suit your needs and it will be a memorable experience. read more

This is a wonderful Yoga class. I went twice while on my vacation in Hawaii. I was lucky that the class was held right where we were staying so I could literally stumble out of bed and do yoga. Imagine doing sun salutations while the sun is rising. How dreamy is that? To top it off, the ocean is peacefully crashing and splashing you in the face every now and then. This is an amazing experience. Anya is a great instructor! Just give her a call the day before so she can give you directions and prices. She has mats for rental. I went to the 9am class. Anya is excellent. She responded to my email quickly to confirm there was room available in the class the day before, which was great for me to plan my day. During the practice on the beach, it was very calming and she taught me things I hadn't learned in other classes. She also went over uses for the poses so they could be applied for specific needs in daily life. We come to Kauai every year and this year I had the nerve to try Yoga on the Beach. It was a beautiful peaceful challenging experience. I'm a beginner yogi and just went at my own pace. What a perfect setting. During our week here I went to class 3 times and had a different yoga instructor each time. It was wonderful to experience each style. Please just go. One of the reasons I decided to stay at Kauai Shores Hotel was that they had yoga on the beach.  Will taught the classes I was able to make the week I was staying there in late February-it was like instantly meeting an old friend and a guru at the same time!  He had this way of making everyone feel welcomed and included, no matter what level yogi you are.  He started the classes with a meditation where we would walk down to the sand, dig our toes in, and really connect with the land...which is exactly what you want to do when you're in Hawaii.  It was a nice, grounded way to start a class that I had never experienced before!  The classes were fun, challenging, and uplifting. I can't wait to go back to Kauai again just to take yoga class with Will!  Also, he was really awesome at sharing tips and things to see around the area, including the ancient heaiao right next to the property! I didn't make it to everything he suggested-a week there is definitely not enough-but I loved going to see the rainbow eucalyptus which I probably would not have found if it weren't for Will. I did this class while staying as a guest at Kauai Shores hotel. It was on the grassy section RIGHT by the beach. The teacher had us in a circle which was different and nice. I really liked this class and would recommend it to anyone, even newbies since it was a bit slower paced and accessible to all. Also the teacher did not teach using the Sanskrit terms instead she explained and demonstrated every single pose. Beautiful vibe from the instructor as well. read more

There is no better way to practice yoga. The beach setting was idyllic: the sound of the ocean waves gently crashing against the stones that marked the front of our "studio", the sun glimmering across the sea surface, the salt sea air invigorating our lungs, and the soft sea breeze keeping us cool throughout our morning workout. We even saw a whale breach in the middle of sun salutations! The setting is so much of a joy to behold that you'd think any instructor would do, but Anya makes it that much more enjoyable. Anya was very thoughtful and accommodating, and is a very skilled instructor. She tailored each session to our wishes and skill level. Her voice and presence transmit serenity effortlessly. I practice yoga regularly and have to say that while the physical workout seemed typical, the whole experience was entirely unforgettable. I went three times during our week stay on Kauai, and it was definitely one of the highlights of my trip- even with the 1 hour+ drive it took to get there from where we were staying! read more
